Favorite game cutscenes?
What are your favorite video/computer game cutscenes? Here is a list of mine...
Final Fantasy 7. Yeah, you know which cutscene I'm talking about.
Shadow of the Colossus. Intro and ending cutscenes. This game defines epic.
Metal Gear Solid. Sniper Wolf's death.
Metal Gear Solid 3. The Boss's death.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence bloopers/outtakes. A tie between Metal Gear Sigint and Snake Eraser.
Metal Gear Solid 4. The whole game is just one big cutscene, even though I HATE how they turned Johnny from comic relief to buttkicker in five seconds flat.
Fatal Frame II. Both the "normal" ending and the Xbox exclusive ending. One is bittersweet, and one gives you closure.
Fallout. "War... war never changes."

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Not too many for me.
Knights of the Old Republic The twist towards the end
Freelancer The introduction before the main menu
And.......thats about it as far as I can remember...

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Phew, there were probably quite a few I really liked but can't think of now, may post more later, but for now:
MechWarrior 4 the intro, kinda liked that one.
Could bet mafia, Operation Flashpoint etc had some nice ones but I do not really remember them.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
MW2 FMV intro and cutscenes were way better IMHO.
-
Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
I'm sure I can come up with a ton more, but a few that pop instantly to mind:
Fallout 2 Intro - Sheer perfection.
Halflife 1 Intro - The entire train ride beginning, very entertaining to see all the bizarre stuff going on around you, and makes you feel like you're entering some absolutely massive facility.
Warcraft 3 - Arthas' Betrayal
Warcraft 3 - Frozen Throne ending
Every other cutscene Blizzard has ever done.

Ah yes. The game that got me addicted to computer games. Even though it ran like crap on my poor 486, I still have fond memories of loading up a Timber Wolf with lasers and heat sinks and just going to town on those dirty Jade Falcons. It was the first (and last) MechWarrior game (Mercenaries and Ghost Bear not included, since they are more of expansions than sequels) to be truly faithful to the tabletop Battletech weapons loadout rules.
Although, I am thankful they changed the PPC in MW3. The shots were too slow to be of any real use, and I'd laugh whenever the enemy fielded a Marauder MkII (unless it was heavy street fighting with no room to run, then I'd break out into a sweat).
Good times.

I used to experiment with some ridiclous configs loaded with the large lasers and enough heatsinks to stop it blowing up on the spot! There was one particular set up that would unleash a devastating alpha strike that could take out anything with a single blast but would shut down the mech in the process! Happy days of big ball ppcs and mechs that could stand on one leg when the other had been shot off.

"It's got a lock on me it's got a lock on me!" <3
Also "You drive like a freebirth, cadet!"
So one of my all time favorites is more due to a bug, which made it utterly hilarious at the time. TIE Fighter, the scene at the end of campaign 5 where Vader is choking Harkov and lifting him into the air, as you hear him screaming. My sound card drivers were bugged, so it stuttered horribly. "GaGaGaGah GaGah Gahah!!" "Nownowyouyoushallshallpaypayforforyourtreacheryery!!" (rip and tear noises)
Others on my list:
Interstate 76, all of them pretty much. CGI blocky goodness.
Diablo II, every single one is well done.
Deus Ex. The Paul talks to J.C. at the 747 and Lebedev talks to J.C. scene because of the !:O plot twist factor. The Helios fusion ending because it was damn cool.
All of the cutscenes and movies from Shogun Total War.
The scene after you jump back to Kharak as the world is burning in Homeworld before mission 2 starts and you have to save what's left of your people was very moving.
The part where Shodan reveals herself in System Shock 2 was a bit eerie but not unexpected.
The intro to Mechcommander 1.
So it's extremely short, but the end cutscene in Quake III Arena after you beat Xaero on a very hard difficulty was intensely satisfying.
The intro cutscene and final cutscene in Final Fantasy IV/II, the part where the twins turn themselves to stone to stop the walls, and the part where Cecil becomes a Paladin.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Just remembered another one:
Half Life 2 Episode 2 Its the ending. Well, its not really a cutscene per se, but there aren't really any in the Half Life series and you don't have any control during the ending. Very big plot twist(?? development ??) going on and the episodes ends off with you wanting more...

:laugh4: A classic game, and much better than X wing and those that followed it. All of the missions I found to have the perfect balance of difficulty. I probably played it to death and certainly wore out a few joysticks on it.

Another classic, well IMHO anyway. Very addictive, with some great missions that were tricky to pull off. I loved the salvage and repair aspect of it, and used to get very annoyed seeing a chassis I was hoping to keep get a total powerplant blow out. :furious3: The cutscenes were certainly top class. I wonder if I am the only one that used to get rid of "W" variant chassis and only buy and keep "A" variants with a "J" for the odd mission where it was needed? I found "W"'s too vulnerable and good only at getting pilots killed.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
I absolutely loved the Diablo II cutscenes. And Red Alert had some good ones too.

One problem I had with MC1 was that a bug prevented you from ever getting headshots, so you were stuck with salvaged crap. MC2 fixed this problem, and presented me with the overwhelming problem of choosing to risk a drawn out fight to get a headshot in against a Dire Wolf, or face it normally with full arms to bare.

The Red Alert series was campy enough to make Evil Dead 2 look serious. But I fondly remember the Allied ending to the original game. Stalin got his just deserts.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Big fan of the Starcraft cutscense - I can quote several Terran ones from memory. :P
-
Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Too many, but two that come to mind now;
Freelancer, the movie before the menu
I saw the extended version somewhere online. That's one.
And the flashbacks in The Witcher, I don't know if they count as cutscenes or not, but I really liked them. Specially the ones in chapter 2,3 and 4.
-
Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
The ones that I've liked most have been mentioned: Diablo II, Shogun, Starcraft, Red Alert. I also liked the original Halo vids quite a bit.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Oh yes, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3.

Diablo 2. Brilliant.

QFT. I don't think any Blizzard cutscene has come close to topping the sheer ZOMG factor of this particular cutscene, including the final cutscene or anything from Frozen Throne.
Other than that, ones that pop to mind are the Oblivion starting cutscene (awesome voiceover by Patrick Stewart) and the CoD4 coup "level" (technically not a cutscene as it's ingame, but still bloody cinematic).

I never played that one, I also prefered MW4 over 3, the controls were easier in and while pointing weapons seperately is a nice idea, I found the controls a bit cumbersome in 3 etc. No idea about 2 obviously (GOG perhaps ~D).

I had that in my post at first but I actually found the acting a little bit cheesy or maybe it was just the german voice acting. ~D

I can definitely second that. :2thumbsup:
Now where's my episode 3? :smash:

No you weren't the only one (now that you mention the top class cutscenes it must've been the german voice acting that was cheesy), the only thing I found a bit lacking was that weapon positions were random, so a Madcat (I know, timberbunny) would sometimes fire a PPC out of it's machineguns etc. Apart from that, one of the best games I've played, MC2 didn't have such a great atmosphere IMO, though still a good game.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Wing Commander II: the scene were Mariko "Spirit" Tanaka says to you "Tengoku de omachisi te imasu!"

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
I consider the intro for Freespace 2 the best I've seen.
-
Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
For the noob I am; I've always liked the F.E.A.R. intro

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
The closing cutscene from Shogun.
-
Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Freespace 2 also had some good ones.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Mass Effect: The battle at the Citadel. Simply an epic cutscene. :2thumbsup:

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Pretty much all my favourites have been mentioned, but...
Battletech games, especially MW3 and MechCommander.
C&C Series: Don't really stand the test of time well, but somehow great nonetheless. I especially love the NOD campaign in the original game.
Fallout Series: It's hard not to love the style. What's scary is that if you've ever seen actual American Cold War "information films", it's barely satire.
Total War: Has some good ones certainly, I particularly like the ending movies of Shogun (especially the modern Japanese post-script)
Dawn of War: Specifically the intro, really captures the spirit of WH40K.
Deus Ex Invisible War: The intro is actually really good... unfortunately it's the high point of the game.
Thief: Everything about this game's cinematics is praiseworthy, but the ending movie of the original game is the best IMO, truly great.

Re: Favorite game cutscenes?
Age of Empires. That has always stuck in my mind.

Back in the day, that looked utterly amazing.
