My desktop is pretty simple. I just have the Enterprise-E in the middle, with my icons inhabiting the perimeter.

I launch all applications from a hiding task bar, and hide the icons on my desktop for a completely clean screen. My background changes daily, and the pics displayed by my screen saver change every ten seconds or so. I use Webshots, which cycles through images I've downloaded and organized into libraries--scenes of nature, space, art, architecture, flora and fauna, etc.. I like having a constant change of "scenery," but tailored to my specific tastes and tempo.
