FM battle-derived traits and ancillaries
I like to use FMs fairly heavily in battles, with my main army usually including at least 4 FMs. For most factions (but of course not all) this comprises a fair slice of my heavy cavalry section of the stack. I use them as you'd expect heavy cavalry to be used, with flanking charges to break the enemy line mostly.
I've always presumed that using FMs this way would lead to them acquiring such martial traits and ancillaries that you might expect from a guy who really gets involved in the nitty gritty of killing other dudes. Things like bodyguards and spear carriers etc.
But is it so? Does it actually matter what FMs do in the battle? Or is being involved (ie present) in the battle enough for the game to assign that chance of getting a trait/ancillary, regardless of what that FM actually does during the battle?
Re: FM battle-derived traits and ancillaries
Can generals, other than the one commanding the army, actually get traits from battles? If so, I have to rethink my armies....
Re: FM battle-derived traits and ancillaries
That's what I've always presumed, as it does make sense. But I've never thought to ask...

Only the general gains traits in a battle. His conduct does make a difference though.

Well, that's not entirely true, is it? I have gotten Local Hero, Scarred and Very Confident Troops traits with generals who were not in command. But yes, you're right. The conduct does make a difference. Especially if he actually fights or not, how much of the bodyguard he loses (probably the most important one) and whether he routs.

Actually I thought all the postbattle triggers had the IsGeneral condition, but I see now that some of them don't, even many, so you're right.
