Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
I hate... when movies are translated, is not as if dind't liked my language... but it's just that it doesn't feel the same.
Usually translated movies are:
-Out of sync
-Worse sound than the original
-Too loud voices compared to everything else
-Jokes loose sense...
Even if the movie is in Arabian (of which I don't understand a bloody thing) I rather hear it in its original language rather than translated to mine...
Sometimes I would even pass on watching a new film cause it was only in the translated form, so I waited for the DVD... <.<
What about you? :2thumbsup:

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Translated if its a comedy or something, it makes it funnier, or subtitles if I actually care what it is about.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Any movie that isn't in English to begin with, is quite frankly not worth my time.

Re : Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
I used to watch movie only when translated in French (with some rare exceptions like MP: Holy Grail), but now, since I live in Canada and is desperatly trying to improve my english, I watch them in english with english subtitles.

...and Americans wonder why the world :daisy:.
Quite frankly, the last good American film I have seen was 20 years old. Hollywood has no future. It will continue alright, but the movies they'll produce will be one bad one followed by a worse one. They have already made some remakes for the fourth, fifth, or sixth times.

Ok scratch that I saw "Downfall" and I watch novellas but generally make up my own words despite having a pretty solid grasp of basic spanish.
If I were to see a forigen film I would prefer subtitles, I'm open to suggestion.

Humor is apparently lost on you.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Depends- If I'm watching original Godzilla, then I want the translation. Just too funny to pass up.
Otherwise, I prefer subtitles.

It sure is. I do not understand or create anything but political humour.

This is clearly not true :laugh4:

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
"Hero" (with Jet Li) was far, far better subtitled than it was dubbed.
If it's considered in scope of this discussion, then 99% of the anime I watch (which isn't a lot) I prefer subbed also, however there are a few exceptions.
:balloon2:

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Just try watching "Heroes" (the TV series) in Japanese. Everyone speaks perfect Japanese and then here comes Hiro and Ando... With their funny accents (Hiro got better on 2nd and 3rd season though.. Ando is Korean to start with so I'm not going to be harsh on him)
Then proceed to watching "24". Chloe will no longer be Chloe.. Jacks voice looses intensity.
So overall I prefer subs. Although French dubs are often well done.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Much prefer subtitles, as i find it really distracting when mouth movements dont match the sound, although subtitles really don't work for some movies (especially comedy with a lot of verbal jokes)

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Subtitles for me, definitely. I'm almost sure a German-speaking guy voted for translated ones:tongue:

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Subtitled...
It helps kids learn a language and helps adults maintain their linguistic skills. Some actors have their unique untranslatable style.
Even if you dont know the language (japanese) it still has a greater feel to it.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Subtitled. Especially with anime. Do you have any IDEA how damn annoying the American Naruto is?
-
Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
The poll is a bit confusing, and should probably read "subtitled" versus "dubbed," not "translated." But it's not really a big deal.
I'd prefer to hear the original actors' voices, so it's subtitles for me when possible.
-
Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
I cannot stand lips even slightly out of sync with the worlds, so subtitles are always a necessity. Fortunately, almost all the movies I watch are in German or English, so I don't require subtitles except for the occasional French film.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Subtitled, unless I'm watching old kung-fu movies, in which case the poorer the dubbing the better.
-
Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
It doesn't feel the same because it's NOT the same! I hate translated movies and really can't stand people who are too lazy to read the darn things...

Subtitled hands down, especially for old kung-fu movies for moi. Those out of synch facial movements and expressions with the English translations drive me crazy.~

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Coming from a german speaking realm, if it is english I dont want it dubbed or subbed. Just original language. If it is another languege I cant speak, well then I don't care.
-
Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
Subtitles
Some of the humor or puns are lost once dubbed in another language.

Re: Do you prefer subtitled or translated movies?
What good would a Jackie chan movie be with subtitles, especially since he can speak perfect english but has a special dubbed English voice
