Heh. Tried out the sport when I first arrived here ('88). Got the hang of the technique, but quickly discovered I didn't have the natural talent other guys did for maintaining balance and orientation on a constantly shifting 'surface'. Why would you need to be a good swimmer to play cricket? Admittedly, the surface does shift a bit, especially in very dry summers, and balance is always useful, but the only orientation you need is to face the ball at all times. Also, fibreglassing the board (or bat as we call it) is only legal if one is repairing it, or holding it together - using a fibreglass veneer to add additional oomph is illegal.Quote:

I've worked in the pub trade for more or less twelve years and have yet to witness a glassing, thank goodness. I have seen the resultant scars on just a single individual. I guess it depends on which area and which pub you frequent.
Never seen it, I think it's acutally more prevelant when chavs go on holiday; and you usually use a bottle. I did hear a story about a guy who bought to WKD's in Thailand, smashed them on the bartop and proceeded to batter two guys giving him lip.
