Weird senate office problem
I've come across an issue with some of my FM holding onto their Senate office for more than a year. This happens very seldomly, but with my last two faction leaders, one held the office of consul for 5 consecutive years before dying of old age and my current leader has now held the office of censor for 6 years. In each year after he was first elected, the FM retained the office but their was no message that came up during the spring saying that he was re-elected. During those years the 2 FM did not get elected to any other office.
This is really starting to annoy me since I just noticed another one of my younger FM has now held the Tribunis Plebis office for 2 consecutive years. I am afraid that he will continually hold this position now and not have the option of attaining a higher position.
Has anyone come across this before? Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should fix it? Thanks.
Re: Weird senate office problem
It's happened to me before, usually with censor, it doesn't happen often so I just roleplay some reason for an extended term. They always lose it eventually, never after more than four or five years.
Re: Weird senate office problem
The censorship differed from all other Roman magistracies in the length of office. The censors were originally chosen for a whole lustrum (the period of five years), but as early as ten years after its institution (433 BC) their office was limited to eighteen months by a law of the dictator Mamercus Aemilius Mamercinus (Livy iv.24, ix.33).
Perhaps that is it? Should not apply for Consulship though.
Re: Weird senate office problem
Perhaps was chosen as dictator :smash:
Re: Weird senate office problem
Thanks for the replies. I think it must be some kind of bug since none of my other FM who've obtained a consulship or censor position held it for more than one year consecutively. I was just curious to see if it has popped up on anyone else's game. I don't mind too much as long as it doesn't prevent my family members from getting future offices.
Re: Weird senate office problem
A bit off topic, but my Faction Leader just became consul a second time! I didn't know this was possible in the game (although it makes sense, there are many example of people who were consul multiple times), however it's the first time I saw that happen in EB.

Yeah that's right. But I wish I could controll more who gets to be consul. When some dirty barbarians crossed the alps to attack my beloved Italia I would have needed a Marius-like guy who is consul for 7 years in a row.
Re: Weird senate office problem
Dictator should only be assigned if someone invades Italy.
Re: Weird senate office problem
Ok,... strangly enough that guy I was talking about, who got elected consul a second time, still is consul now (4 years later). All the other offices look like they are still working fine. Although I don't seem to be getting any "warnings" anymore when somebody receives an office.
Re: Weird senate office problem
It is possible to be re-elected as Consul. Sometimes if a guy is really great or everyone else is really bad, the game will just keep choosing the same guy.

Wouldn't I get a message telling me so every year then?
This guy gets consul at 45. Few older guys get consul after that for one year. Then about eight years where nobody of my FM's was consul. The guy becomes consul again at 61. He's now 66 and still consul.
Could be it is what you say it is, but I thought it was strange.
Re: Weird senate office problem
What you are describing Mediolanicus sounds exactly like what happened in my game; seeing the FM keep the office for consecutive years without an election message every spring. Its annoying to me since I have yet to see that FM get elected to a different position (ie my consul never becomes a censor). Once he gets stuck with the office the game has yet to remove it from him; the situation only becomes resolved when the guy dies. Fortunately, this seems to happen rarely and to guys that are in their 50s, so I don't have to deal with the annoyance for long.
Re: Weird senate office problem
I had a number of FM gaining the Consulship more than once, but never for a third term. Once I had three Consuls in a year, so I ruled played the events as an Aedui army happened to be marching south towards Mediolanum, and one of the Consul elect was in Iberia fighting the Lusitanni.
cheers.
