Lightning quick battles, what the...!

Hello guys!
Some time ago I played EB 1.0 and enjoyed it immensely. Today I installed 1.2 with sprites fix, Naval Strat map, RS textures and ||Lz||'s mini mod pack. Thing is that now all my battles are ultra arcade when compared with my previous experience with slow pace that suited my taste so well. Units run as if they were covered with burning oil, and being chased by cerberus himself. They die even faster. What, rhomphaia for everyone? After I replaced export_descr_unit.txt with that one from phalanx mod, my hellenoi battles last somewhat longer, but they're still too darn fast. Would you believe, it makes for a boring game for me. What's this all about? Is it the way EB plays in 1.2? Is my installation corrupted in any way? Of course I did try reinstalling.

Maybe you just have it set to arcade. Or maybe the difficulty is on VH

Does it look like a timescaling problem?

I've noticed sometimes that when flicking to 3x, it sometimes locks (which can be VERY annoying when the AI moves some cavalry to threaten my slingers, etc.) temporarily; I've yet to work out if it eventually times out or if my frantic clicking and ctrl-T-ing actually have an effect on returning the game speed to normal.

(I'm currently using 1.1, sorry if this is a common game error in this version)

Thanks for answers, but no, neither arcade mode (where you get unlimited stamina, ammo and such) nor time scale (changing speed works as expected) seems to be the problem. I'm not really sure there is any problem at all. It's just that infantry runs at the speed of cavalry and kills as if they're carrying assault rifles. Or perhaps I'm getting old and weird. Things used to be slower in my times. Sigh.

I've struck through quite a few things which are not relevant to your problem. Of course, another likely culprit is a hardware upgrade, and you were used to what actually is a severe form of lag?

EDIT: In short: any modification not made by the team may or may not have altered such things as battle balance as well (to suit 'their' tastes better) which may or may not cause your problem as well.

It could be a hardware issue, do you have a dual core processor? It's happened to me before with vanilla, the game was running at 1.5x speed for no apparant reason.

The simple solution would be when you load up EB (or RTW vanilla or X mod) and you have this bug, bring Windows Task Manager (Control + Alt + Delete in layman's terms) and right click on the process "rtw.exe", then go to "Set Affinity" and untick your second CPU so it's only running with one.
