Re: Timiruds won't attack?
It could be because of the difficulty your playing on?
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
I've had a similar issue with the mongols, they refuse to attack my cities/castles as I guess they are too well defended for their liking..

They won't go into to Turkey they just keep going back and forth. After 9 turns I got a "at war with Timiruds" message but they didn't siege anything. I also have 4 large armies hanging out by the coast between Jerusalem and Antioch. I am just scaring them away?
Is this normal for their invasion to take so long to start attacking?
Thanks
Yes, perhaps the the Difficulty you are playing the Game @. But even @ Easy/Easy I would still think the Timurids would approach with their 10 stacks. It doesnt matter how many units your catles have... its how tough the castle is. I once held 1 stack as spain with 2 spearmen, 3 Swordbuckler men, 2 Mounted Feudal's, and 2 Xbows. My army wasnt that decimated them... it was my Cannon towers :)
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
Ten turns for them to wander around is nothing. This can go on for a long time. Often they will not attack but seek to walk around my defenses and go to a city which is programmed to be a home for them like Kiev or Antioch. If you block one way and leave another open the Horde may be lured to going back and forth for who knows how long. I get tired of it and try to force their hand by surrounding them with forts. Eventually, if surrounded, they will attack. If you are very powerful the AI seems to know this and does not want to take any risky battles that it does not have to before it has settled in a home. Once it has a home the Horde seems just as stupidly suicidal as the other factions.
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
Thanks for all the help. As an experiment, I reduced my army in Mosul to 6 milita and they headed there on the very next turn and attacked it. After that, they kept wandering around so I put most of my armies in ships and then I removed the elephants I had in Antioch and they moved to Antioch the next turn and attacked it. I've been using all my armies to lose battles and thin them out and then conquer them in sieges and bridge battles, I have them down to 3 armies now. It's been lots of fun watching the Elephants stomp my infantry and archers, then watch 2-3 tip over at a time when my Culvrin's hit them with a solid shot.
The funny thing with the AI is, they would just keep wandering around when all my cities/castles where stronly held. On some turns, it would look they would head off out into the Turkey area but they would just turn around on the next turn and wander some more in the Holy Land which I occupied. It was pretty funny but also frustrating.
However, I think the programmers counted on them showing up to less prepared players. Creating more of an Antagonist Boss the player had to beat. And then work their way to wherever the player was if they weren't very strong in the area they showed up in. So in all fairness, I knew they were coming so it was basically exploiting.
Next time I play, I'll let them take some cities and maybe attack some neighbors before I deal with them.
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
In my computer mongols started north and timurids started south which is really bad cause then the timurids don't end up killing the mongols like usual and just take over most of the areas i n south and carry on advancing and the mongols take over all of north. In my game (as Spain) Mongols are attacking me in bucharest and timurids are attacking me in Milan!
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
How did the Timurids ever get to Milan if they started South? Did they take Anioch for a home? Did they actually use ships? I really am quite interested. Fascinating situation! What version of the game are you playing, o most blessed of players?

They used to own ragusa but i took it back and tey had 5 navies all with 3 ships in all close together but i destroyed it.
I've just named them after places near the screenshot and these areas are not necessarily under timurid control.

Re: Timiruds won't attack?
Very interesting. Timurids in Durazo and a fleet in the Adriatic. Strange that the Egyptians survived somehow.
Did you not go and take Timbuktu?
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
I think the strangest thing I've seen with the Timurids is when the Mongols got stuck in the desert for I don't know how long, but they allied with the Timurids and both of them assaulted the region together,in what you call a mega-horde..
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
That campaign is very interesting.
The Timurid's using fleets.
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
LOL i didn't think it was that interesting, they don't carry units in the boats (or not what i've seen) unless they lose battle and it's auto retreat.
And i haven't took timbuktu cause it's to far away to walk.
I got a plan to bring my units from west to fight the timurids though, asked pope to call crusade against Jerusalem then bring Generals in with loads of units :D they keep deserting though even though they're making maximum progress :( and my money is in 200000's now with all but one last aztec teritory remaining, one mongol territory remaining, and i'm assaulting Timurid areas petty badly with 4 more of there territories take over since the last screenshots.
Also it might be nteresting that there was a jihad against Kiev (owned by Russia at the time) with timurids having 2 full stacks in the Jihad and eventually conquering it.
How do i do spoiler things?
Re: Timiruds won't attack?
they're massing loads of ships around constantinople now (which is owned by rebels after i sent spies in for unrest) byzantine are there also and i've got a ship stuck in the middle blocking that lower connecting bit
