upgrades/patches to TW

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the forum but been playing TW for a while. I'm not upto speed on all the patches/updates etc on the TW series. Can anyone let me know what they are/do and the best way to get them.

I just tried downloading an upgrade for Varangian guard with not much success.

Welcome to the forums.

Which totalwar game are you playing? There are patches for each. You can find some here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=1 and M2TW/Kingdom ones here: http://www.atomicgamer.com/directory.php?id=2723

For Rome: Total War, the latest patch is 1.5, for the expansion Barbarian Invasion, it is 1.6.
For Medieval 2: Total War, the latest patch is 1.3, for the expansion Kingdoms, it is 1.4.

For earlier games, I can not help you.

When patching from 1.0, for Rome: Total war, go to 1.3 and then 1.5. I you have barbarian invasion, you can go from 1.3 to 1.6.

When patching from 1.0 for Medieval 2: Total War, patch to 1.2, skip 1.1. 1.3 is merely a multiplayer compatiblity patch with people who use Kingdoms. If you have Kingdoms however, install 1.4.

A little correction to Pevergreens post. Kingdoms is version 1.4. You can update it to 1.5. Don't blame Pevergreen. He just turned 18! :laugh4:

Yes, expansionpacks increase the versioncounter as well. That can be confusing.

Thanks for all your help guys. I've tried downloading v 1.1 and 1.2 for MTW. When i try to run v1.1 it tells me that it is not a valid win 32 application and when i try to run v1.2 it tells me i have not installed MTW on my laptop!!! Does anyone have any ideas on that please???

That seems like file corruption, redownloading the file from a different source may be your best best.

You refer to the game as "MTW" yet you're talking about the v1.1 and v1.2 patches. Is this M2TW you're referring to here (as I suspect) or is it MTW (the first one)?

It is mediveal 2 total war that i am using so i think the penny just dropped there!
