Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
I was waiting to see if Quiteus would finally get to a decent decade, but I'm tired of waiting.
Let's see how many true classic songs we can post now that there's a decent well to draw from. I'll get us started with a few of the most obvious:
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Foghat - Slow Ride
Pink Floyd - Fat Old Sun
the Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Takin' Care of Business (my personal favorite so far... you just gotta love a song that's all about being a lazy-ass bum. :jester:)
Free - All Right Now (Technically speaking, I think this came out in '69 or so, but it's close enough, at least in spirit.)
Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the Jar
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
Kansas - Carry On my Wayward Son
And, of course, by necessity:
Boston - More than a Feeling
Now post 'em!

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
And I found the One More from the Road version too (at least I think it is.) I'm so sorry, man.
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Bwahahahaha!
Ballad about Battle - Vladimir Vysotsky
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Skynyrd - Free Bird
Doors- Riders on the Storm
Stones - Gimme Shelter
CCR - Run Through the Jungle
Derek and the Dominos/Clapton - Layla
I could probably keep listing these for hours. Quite possibly the best musical decade ever.
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Tarkus - ELP
Superstar - The Carpenters
Urban Guerrilla - Hawkwind
Imagine - John Lennon
Echoes - Pink Floyd
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Edit:
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Post them, don't list them! We got a lot of good ones here unlisted!
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Take A Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed
Knocking on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan
I always preferred the original version, since no one sings Dylan like Dylan.
Gimme Danger - Iggy Pop & The Stooges
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Making an exception of multiple picks for the greatest ever :
"Forever Loving Jah" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. Technically '80, but really a 70s tune.
"Guiltiness" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. (Blocked in Youtube).
"Africa Unite" - Bob Marley & the Wailers.
"Rebel Music" - Bob Marley & the Wailers.
"Sun Is Shining" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. (Alternate version. The best version is blocked in Youtube).
And one from Tosh:
"I Am That I Am" - Peter Tosh

I didn't want to clutter the frontroom.
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid and Supernaut.
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
I don't understand how you could have left this one out, Quietus.
Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Lots of good songs I haven't hear in a long time...
The local Classic Rock station where I live plays a lot of Nirvana. :inquisitive:

Great thread Rev!
AC/DC - It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll - Feature the late, great Bon Scott as lead singer, arguably AC/DC's best singer and without a doubt one of the best lyricists of that era. This is also the best hard rock song (and perhaps the only one?) that sports bagpipes... and doesn't suck!
And... like most AC/DC song from the Scott era, it's a kickass song to drive to. :2thumbsup:

You know, Danny, Ilkka Lipsanen was a big hit in Finland in the 70's. He held the official title of counsellor of music in Finland in 2002.
Re: Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)
Steve Miller 'The Joker'
Yeah, the 70's: when you could still go to a concert without having to take out a 2nd mortgage.
The Police: "Roxanne" Great minimalist rock.
WAR: "Cisco Kid"

Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home live '71 (Dude, Mark, please put a shirt on...)
Would anyone kill me if I posted a little Bad Company? (It's Rock Steady, one of their two good songs...)
And just to prove that white people aren't the only ones with cheesy music... The Commodores - Brick House

Sorry to hijack your whole thing Quietus.
Also, that reminds me... Wings - Band on the Run
(Anyone who criticizes Guitar Hero should remember the songs it introduces the newer audiences to.)
