Confused about the USA Campaign
Ok I'm a bit confused as I keep seeing conflicting information. So here is a few questions that I would like to see answered.
1.) Anyone find a way to set the difficulty for the USA campaign in RTI especially the last episode that says United States?
2.) Is the USA only playable in RTI where it says United States or can you select USA after selecting Grand Campaign from the main menu after some unlock?
3.) Does the game force you to stop playing at a certain date in either the Grand Campaign or RTI USA mini Campaign? Or can you play untill you actually have world domination no matter how many turns it takes?
Re: Confused about the USA Campaign
1. i would assume considering its a tutorial it would be easy/easy or normal/normal
i believe u can change the options in your menu possibly i know my mate managed too but i dunno give it a go
2. i believe once u finish RTI it unlocks the USA as a playable faction in the grand campaign.
3. once unlocked u play it in the grand campaign just like u would a grand campaign meaning the campaign ends in 1799 iirc
hope this helps some :)
Cheers Knoddy

Episode 5 is the USA in the Grand Campaign. They start around 1780, not sure of the exact year.

You can change the battle difficulty in the in-game options, but I don't think you can change the campaign difficulty.

USA is only playable in RTI, with mods it may be possible to start a Grand Campaign as the 13 Colonies.

You can continue playing as long as you want. Other countries have a huge head start though (obviously). I won chapter 4 and clicked continue so I could try to conquer the world later on, but after a turn saved it and started my first Grand Campaign. Maybe after a few Grand Campaigns I'll come back to it.
Re: Confused about the USA Campaign
Using the Late Campaign Mod I'm playing as USA and I can set the difficulty to VH. Much better than playing RTI USA as all the factions seem to be puppies rolled over exposing their bellies now in GC USA with the mod they are rabid wolves daring me to encroach their territories. :P

I won Chapter 4 Saturday! Working from memory, so may not be 100% accurate as to the exact regions. I'm almost completely sure of them except for the last two. The numbers are accurate though.
Re: Confused about the USA Campaign
Thanks, Dogfish. What is the timeframe it gives you?
Also what were your general thoughts on RTI? I'm at 1781 in Episode 3 and have New England, Maine and New York - probably need to move a bit faster. I lost Bunker Hill once, tried again, and won. That was cool. :2thumbsup: I got the French to ally with me a few turns in after taking my first new region; so far their support has been entirely naval, though.
But the pedantic U.S. historian in me was a bit annoyed that the game credits British casualties at Bunker Hill for the evacuation of Boston - no mention of the guns of Ticonderoga, and 1775 rather than 1776? Plus they start General Howe in Maine instead of New York after the Brits withdraw from Boston. I'm sure Washington would've far preferred confronting Howe in the inland wilds of Maine rather than trying to defend an island city from amphibious assault by the biggest navy in the world.
Also, it would seem more accurate if your forces started in Episode 3 kind of scattered throughout the colonies, as was the case with several states' militia, rather than concentrated in one decent sized army in New England, and the reverse for the British. It seems the Brits aren't quite able to muster the overwhelming numbers they had in real life, although maybe that's intentional for game balance purposes, particularly in a semi-tutorial.
Also, I wish they'd taken some more care with involving real-life historical figures. Some of the ministers get traits totally out of character for them historically - John Adams and James Madison taking mistresses? Not bloody likely. Also, when you recruit a new general, it would be nice for them to use real Revolutionary War generals' names.
But these are pretty minor quibbles. TW is never meant to replicate history precisely - as someone else said, that's what books are for. Or games like AGEOD's Revolutionary and Civil War games, which look great if I ever had the time to get a handle on their complexity, but also lack the tactical battles and political, economic, tech, etc. elements of E:TW.
