Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
I thought I was the only lunatic that put a vaccumm to my computer.:laugh4:
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
Maybe you are. Then again I am a lunatic.
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
Blow it out. Compressed air works well. Vaccuum on reverse is better than sucking.
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
Compressed air would be safer.
You couldn't pay me to shove a vacuum cleaner into my machine.
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
Get some compressed air. Much more fun although seeing how dirty everything is can be a bit of a surprise.
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
I'll bear that in mind, but this seems to work and I havent sucked up my hard disk... yet

It's not sucking up components that you need to worry about, it's the static charge that can build up from its use. If you seriously put a vacuum inside your machine and escaped without a single incident then you're very lucky. Of course, that is to say nothing of the risk of long-term effects.
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
The static from shoving bits of metal into your PC could very well cause some of the more sensitive components to fry. Don't do this. And for the love of God never do it with the PC switched on.
Compressed air is definitely the way, and its also a lot of fun :2thumbsup:.

Compressed air on anything is a whole lot of fun.
FWOOOM!
Re: Troubleshooting: Dust It
I use compressed air then vaccuum the dust where it gathers.

Indeed, just don't shake it up and only use it in bursts. If you see ice-crystals you're doing it wrong!
A vacuum is okay for the outside the case and for the outer fans, ect, but you should never put it inside the case, for whatever reason. Ideally you should be using two things, anti-static wipes (the dry kind, not the moist.) and compressed air. The former can be a little hard to find but the later can be found anywhere electronics are sold, and is normally pretty cheap.
You should also take your case out of the room you're running it in before blasting it. I like to take it outside so that way the dust ends up in the air out there, and not in the air in my room where it's gonna get sucked right back into the case with the fan.
