EB's Removed Units (Nostalgia thread, not "how to get them back")

Is there any place to see names, descriptions and pics of all the units removed from EB over the different versions? The Yuezhi units, those German guys with the 2 handed axes "who were trained to run alongside the cavalry as shock troops" or something like that from v .8 or so (the pic of them still pops up on the main EB page sometimes)? Just wondering for the sake of nostalgia, as this mod easily ranks as a favorite game of all time for me, and I'd like to see which units I've either forgotten or missed entirely, as I didn't find EB til it was v 0.7 something or so.

Why were they taken out?

I'm guessing the Corinthian Hoplites were anachronistic, though I'd have liked to have them in my army. That is, if my assumption is correct and they're still wearing the Corinthian Helmet and otherwise equipped like the Classic Greek Hoplites of Marathon, for example.

Were they removed for Saba units?

Maybe I'm just overly caffeinated at the moment, but I'm thinking of downloading all the old EB versions I can find and installing them in a new RTW install to create a "best of the forgotten EB units" thread... You can still download some of the older versions here:

In Dutch they're also called "kikkervisjes" => Frogfishes :)

Not at all. The Corinthian hoplites have been reskinned, given a wider recruitment range and renamed classical hoplites. They also lost the phalanx ability.

No. There is still some unit space left.

Many German units were reconcepted (renamed, reskinned, restatted) because the new German FC was not satisfied with them. The Merjoz was the most notable casualty: two-handed axes apparently were a late Viking/Saxon development, so they really did not belong in EB.

Its a shame that they take out these good looking units...(damn i love 2 handed axes):shame:

Yes, that Corinthian "Hoplite" looks more like an Attic Phalangite, to tell you the truth.

Well, the "Install EB .7 something and make a forgotten unit shrine idea isn't going so well- I gave my old RTW game to a friend once I bought the TW Eras set, and I think I'm stuck with an instantly installed RTW 1.5 now, while old EB requires 1.2 to even run. I can't even get it to start, and patching 1.2 over the later install didn't work either. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the added units in this thread as well! I'd like to get a set of the unit pictures, names, and full descriptions, again for curiosity/nostalgia's sake, just not sure how to accomplish it yet...

I'm pretty sure one of the mods included in Lz3's modpack includes a revert back to the old cohort skin. I've got it installed but haven't made it anywhere near getting imperial units in my Roman campaign...

What i did was install the game into a empty folder so you have all the files. All the UI pics,textures and unit models were in a .pak file so i had to get a pak extractor to get at them (theres a few in the modding sections of the forums). The descriptions of the units will be in the text folder found in the EB directory, in a file called EXPORT_UNITS.txt.

It's a real pity the Aithiopikon Agema and the Merjoz didn't fit into the EB timeframe.

No, the skin got lost (IIRC the skinner disappeared and never submitted his work).

That's sad, this skin really look better (more realistic to me) then the overdecorated vanilla like skin (sorry to say that this way).

I don't think, the current skin is overdecorated. Bear in mind that Indian cataphract elephants would be like a Ferrari or Rolls Royce among Hellenistic monarchs: THE compensation for every shortcoming they might have had. They were like the crown jewels of the army. So one may assume that they were quite decorated to inspire awe in the enemy and to show off with one's treasury.
