Does running ETW on Windows increase speed or help avoid crash-to-desktop issues?
I don't think you can run it on a mac anways...
Besides which, most of us run it on windows, and there have been many reported crashes. So I don't know where you are getting this from.
Its just very buggy right now, ETW
It runs a LOT better for me now. It utilises all of my memory and looks great. I still have some graphics issues in land battles, but thats because I have an older Nvidia6800. I'm going to upgrade to a 9800 for Fathers day, but till then, run this babay in a window and enjoy!!!
Its eleiminated about 95% of my crashes. But, with more patches coming out, this game's going to be a peach. When you think of how much PC's and all the various configurations that a software developer has to contend with, I'm surprised you can a finished product through beta testing these days...
Well, I assumed that most players are using windows, so maybe it just works even worse on mac. Most of the bugs aren't even dependant on the operating system anyways.
I think he means "windowed mode" not windows, the operating system.
:P Oh my god....
I meant window mode, but I guess I should have clarified since if this was running on a MAC, there would be no crashes!!!:laugh4:
Keyword: IF. Why do you want to do windowed mode?
All these reported crashes befuddle me... I have one of the most unstable graphics cards known to nerd, the ATI HD 4800 series, and have only encountered 1 CTD in all the days i have clocked up on Empire, and that was a reproducable CTD when i end turn, so obviously a bug in the code and not graphics card or windows related.
I had several CTD's, one of them was reproducible, and seemed code related too: as soon as a certain fleet entered a certain port, BANG to the desktop. Faster than the game takes to quit, too.
I tried Windows and it still crashes.
My dual-core processor says it is ~2.0 gHz. Is that the problem?
Probably not, that's my processor speed and I can run it on ultra unit size in a massive 40 stack blood bath.
Have you tried the usual things like defragmenting your hard drive or anything like that?
Since the patch came out CTD's on my machine have got worse, usually to do with selecting naval units or docks.
I just gave up last night and went and had a nice cup of tea instead
Huh what? :inquisitive: 0 stability problems here.Quote:

Ugh, I am getting non stop CTDs, which make Empire sadly unplayable, its like every fourth turn in a load, it sucks hard considering I have just created an i7 core and gtx 285 SLI system...
