Trouble doing all civs playable
I,ve added the non-emergent civs from non-playable to playable in the desc-strat file in BI, as I successfully did with RTW, but when I click on any of them except the Celts, the game crashes. Anyone have this problem and have any suggestions? thanks
Icewolf
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Have you patched both BI to 1.6 and RTW to 1.5? I used to have problems exactly like yours until i installed both patches.

Indeed that could be the case - if a faction lacks a description in v1.4 (standard BI) or v1.3 (standard R:TW with BI) then the game will crash upon selection.
You can download the v1.6 patch (R:TW to 1.5 and BI to 1.6) from here.

Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
I'm playing with the gold edition so I beleive that I have all the current patches, thanks,

Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Do you mind posting a quick copy and paste of your relevant desr_strat? It would be very helpful to iron out any basic errors.

Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Just because you have RTW Gold does not mean you have RTW at 1.5 and BI at 1.6. Some shipped with BI at 1.4, which lowered RTW to 1.3 when you installed it. Start each, go to Options, and check the number in the upper corner.
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Try to use the -ctd(was it the -ctd command?) that give you help on what is wrong.
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
(1) BI is either not patched or has only one patch in the Gold Edition. (mine anyway) Go to options and it will give you the version # in the upper right corner. Should be 1.6.
(2) You can't just change the descr_strat for BI. Why? Because some of the factions you are trying to play are emergent (such as Romano-British or Slavs). Why don't the others work? I dunno. But when I did the same thing I had the same problem. I could only play as one or two civs.
You have to get the unlock all BI factions mod. Lotsa fun. Here is link: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=57734
I liked playing the E. Roman Empire rebels, myself. :) :pirate2:
It'll give you instructions. This one doesn't seem like the mod I used though. ??? It looks like you have to start as one of the playable factions and it'll give you the option of taking an emergent faction when it arrives.
I found one somewhere that lets you start as the eleutheroi (rebels pardon me) and then it has you select a specific city for which faction you wanna play. I'll post the link if I find it. :book: Or I could burn my cd of mods and send it to you in the mail! :clown: hmmm... :stupido2:
Good luck w/ BI! Enjoy!
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Here is another one: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=54943 doesn't seem to have as many features IMO.
This one looks quite good: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=41879 Apparently the first link doesn't work, but you can find it lower on the page.
GLHF!
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Roman rebel factions don't work because they need some provinces at the start of the game. Without it the game will crash. Also, it would be wise not to let them stay as shadow faction because this also could cause CTD's.
Romano-British also need a province just like WRE/ERE rebels.
Slavs and Ostrogoths are emergent faction and they need some armies do be present at the start of the game.
EDIT: Another thing..

Unless you like fighting against brigands/pirates you might want to chance those numbers to 100 and 120. Big number - less brigands/pirates; Small number - more brigands/pirates

Right; which is why you need one of the mods. The one I had would play until your selected faction emerged. For ERE Rebels it wasn't long. :D :whip:
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
Ok Omanes I was only playing 1.4 on BI. I dl'd the patch you linked me to, now what directory do I extract it to? Thanks
Icewolf
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
extract it to your base RTW folder, the one with RomeTW.exe in it.
Re: Trouble doing all civs playable
I ended up haviung to go to the official website to get a different patch b/c the other one wasn't executable. It's now 1.6, I'm going to try the Roxolani for a challange. I was reading the read-me file and interestingly enough they fix the problem of Gratianus the lily-livered (WRE) having archers for a bodygaurd. I kept trying to get him killed but he always wormed out of the ambuscades. Thanks Subrosa,
Icewolf (Lab)
