Do mortars/howitzers get kills & xp w. exp shells?

As the title really - I've had battles where my mortars and howitzers, firing quicklime or percussion cap shells, have obliterated enemy armies - I've seen (very) lucky hits take 30/40 men out with one shot.

And yet... at the battle details screen, it lists the arty with about 30 kills each... 12lbers firing shrapnel and canister get all their kills, 300+, but the poor aoe lobbing cannons get bugger all - which I wouldn't mind, except they don't get the accompanying xp either. Anyone else noticed this? Anyone got mortars or howitzers up to healthy experience?
