The rebels that spawn in Transylvania are labeled "Slav Rebels". Transylvania at the time of ETW era had Magyar (Hungarian) nobles/landowners and Romanian peasants. Hungarian (language) belongs to the Finno-Ugric family whereas Romanian is a Romance language with strong Latin roots same as Italian.
So, why Slav rebels?
And no, I am not a Romanian.
Probably a simplification for the mass market {ie :America :p} and thus a useful timesaver for the devs .
The average American thinks everyone in Eastern Europe is a Slav or a Jew . Blame Hollyweird .

The game was developed in Europe...so the devs are there right? Most Americans do not even know what a slav is or where they are from :inquisitive:....seriously.
I would say please slam the correct group, Western Europeans, who think that history revolves around them.
how about we just all agree that it was an overall waste of CA's time to do that and it has nothing to do with intelligence/egos.

1) I have plenty of Yank mates and every damned last one knows what a Slav is and that they generally hang out in Eastern Europe and Russia ... they fought the entire Cold War over 6 decades against the biggest group of Slavs on the plannet !
They merely don't know much about the specific demographics of Eastern Europe .
2)Western Europeans think Western European history revolves around them because it quite literally does ! You know , like American history revolves around Americans .
Indeed all European History was heavily influenced by them for 1,500 years and in the 18th , 19th and early 20th centuries a very sizeable chunk of global history revolved around them too .
No point having a rant against it , it simply happened that way .
That they're taught about it in school doesn't make them arrogant {you clearly suggested they were} , merely educated .
I'll bet in Eastern Europe , folk are taught an Eastern European centric view of history and I know in the U.S. folk are taught very much from their own national perspective .
Every country teaches history from that nations' perspective .
Right now America dominates world events {no country can make a move without taking the reaction of the U.S.A. into account} and China and India will probably take centre stage and dominate 50 years from now .
Many outside countries will probably still have serious misconceptions about other distant countries then too {most Europeans , East or West , wouldn't know a just how many [i]Slavs[i] emigrated to the U.S. nor that New York has enough Jews to be a second Israil -or a comedian factory- or that in Hartfore they pronounce heart as hat and that very few yanks have even a cowboy ancestor} .
Quit slamming Americans yourself {seriously , given Slavs controlled one of the only 2 superpowers of the 20th century the folk in the other superpower would have to be pretty stupid not to know what a Slav was} and Western Europeans {you seem to hold them in contempt} .
In case you're wondering about my "agenda" , it isn't remotely national : I'm an Aussie . I just want more historical accuracy and notice it when it isn't there .

The simple fact is , the average American knows Slavs generally come from Eastern Europe {and Russia} , but typically also think that all Eastern Europeans are slavic and the biggest single demographic that will buy this game is the U.S.A. .
