Couple of casse q's

Hey, started a casse campaign the other day, already united the isles (first time ive played 1.2 since i had 1.0 and it seemed alot easier)

Anyway im in mainland europe now, and france is nicely cut up evenly between me rome the two celt nations, so its going to be an interesting war.

I wanted to ask about which governments to use on the mainland to get the largest amount of troops variation, at the moment i've got both ends of the spectrum and can only recruit militia units.

Also, which route of buildings to get caledonian nobels if possible.

ps: also Silurae warband and pictone warriors. I remember these from the last time i played but never got to recruit them.

You should check the RV... It may answer a lot of your questions about recruitment

In terms of most recruitment, go for a type 2 gov where possible. Especially in the Belgic regions. The Milnat and Batacorii you can recruit there are the soldiers I often relied upon to conquer Gaul from Romans in my campaign and push into Italy across the Alps. There I bogged down due to poor immediate recruitment options and the typical waves of Pedites, Triarii, and every mercenary available. In any case, any Celtic region is deserving of a type 2 government.

In Caledonia, I believe you need the 12 turn native MIC for Caledonian Nobles. They are decent medium cavalry, nothing special. They will fulfill your cavalry needs for immediate battles on the mainland but I recommend using Gallic light cavalry or the Belgae variety once you start recruiting in Gaul. Actually shipping the Goidillic cavalry across is a decent option too along with some of the nobles warriors there.

For Siluri Warband, the 9 turn local MIC will work. Not sure why its a local MIC, i suppose its because of their unknown origins? Took me a while to figure that one out considering I resisted checking the recruitment map. Actually had a similar problem with Asturian Axemen as Lusotann. Siluris seem to work well as skirmisher light infantry though you get plenty of skirmisher options as Casse. Love those Balroae!

Oh, and Siluris are only recruitable in the province which equates roughly to modern day Wales. The one with the druidic college built and the sacred isle.

I believe that the Goidilic cav and the Caledonian cav are almost exactly the same, with the same stats and the Caledonians having higher morale but more expensive.

So really, just get your hands on the Belgaic cav and you'll be home free.

I am playing a Case campaign atm that is going well. I crossed the channel and took the Belgic provinces in the first year, then ran it as a Belgic/Cassse confederation with a Belgic army and a Casse army basically pursuing seperate goals.

I found the first Celtic reform a definite goal, the Calawre make you a heavyweight frontline force. I got into a scrap with the Sweboz early (about 270 or so) but for RP reasons I hung back defended from the Belgic provinces rather than blitz the Rhine. The cost in blood was insane until the Calawre strode into the battle line and then it was really quite easy.

I pushed onto the second reform and it was another step up, but not the huge change the first one brought. Rycalawre are legion eaters (they even look a bit Roman with the red crest and all) and the Remi heavy cav are nice, but it was more of the same really.

For a change of pace I recruited 2 Vollorix in Ireland and sailed them to the Vasci lands with a budget of 10000 for mercs to carve out a series of allied states in Spain. That was a fun little sideshow, but they had to recruit Lusso regionals to take on the scary Carhifginians who shipped over some stacks from North Africa.

Now (c.230) my Spanish alies have taken all the peninsula and across into north italy, supported by the FL, FH and a small royal stack of Casse champions, 2-handers etc. I lost my temper with the Sweboz and razed 6 of their cities, but still they came. Then I turned the 3 rhine cities into allies, but still they came, so I have begun recruiting little "collaborater" stacks of German Merc genereals with levy and medium German spears and a wolf-merc or two (but only in the field, never use those dudes as garrisons-seems wrong) to take and occupy all their cities one by one. Its a hard slog (with RP force mix limits) but I am getting in Spanish and German style fighting as well as Casse chariot crash testing.

I find hero units a great help: a druid/midland champion/calawre just adds some staying power to Gaeroas or even shortswordsmen that make them worthy of the battle line. And the two handers just make a mess of anything in a city, even heavy Romans. Send a pair of them to wipe the square clean, and you can walk away from the PC for the last minutes of the seige.:smash:
