I've just had the Polybian reform and i've seen that the Polybian units are not so better than the camillian ones.
The Camillan Triarii are much better than the Polybian ones. The Polybian Principes have the gladius instead of the spear, and i appreciate that. The Polybian hastati are pretty good. Don't remember about cavalry and veliti.
I thought the polybian units would be much better than the camillan, but i've seen no real "revolutionary" changes, except maybe Principes' gladius.
The Hastati and Principes are stronger and have better morale, and you now have Velites instead of those 3 other units.
Triarii did become weaker though still quite strong, the equites did also become weaker.
But since Rome is an Infantry force it does get stronger by it, I gues. :sweatdrop:
Triarii gone weaker and can't hold the phalanx again... but the Polybian princepes is the best troops available for clearing up the wall (save Envocatae and Praetorians)... Polybian Hastai are the best light troops available, and their velites can easily kill Peltastai with proper use...
THat's right their cav sux, but why not training hellenic / gallic equivalent?
If you train a historically accurate Army your army will be better after the reforms. the Ai and Elite Spammers are not very fond of the developement^^

And even the Hastatis' armour level goes up (pectoral plate instead of just a shirt). And, for what it matters, the shortswords change to the "improved" lethality 0.13 model.
You still have Accensi AFAIK. Leaving you with skirmishers and slingers, but no Rorarii; once again AFAIK.Quote:

Agreed. They are my favourite as well. Triarii work the best as line holders and anti-cavalry units. PEs work best against heavily armoured infantry and cavalry units, as well as making superb flankers. Although I would recommend Hastati or Principes as flankers.Quote:

I'm not a huge "stat-watcher" , when selecting units I don't really bother looking at the numbers, my reasoning being ancient generals didn't have a statistical breakdown of their mens strengths and weaknesses. I do spend a lot of time reading unit descriptions. I have played many a Romani campaign though, just hit the Polybians in my current one, so feel qualified to venture an opinion.
With a Camillan army you go into any battle , even with odds up to two to one, confident of victory. You know your army will stand well, so long as you don't do anything silly. There is always a tiny doubt in the back of your mind though, those three or four times you have been shocked to see your Hastati rout, thinking "what the hell's going on".
You go into battles with Polybian armies even more confident, certain that, unless you do something completely moronic, your men will stand and fight. I can honestly say I have never seen a Polybian legionary run in any of my battles in a situation where I wasn't expecting it.
If you don't build the Polybian barracks, the camillan ones doesn't seem to be autodamaged
