how do you manage a massive empire? My empires start to crumble after about ten Cities is it the fact I'm crab, or does the Game hate me?:furious3:
Why it crumble? I suppose because of revolts. Well, train more garrisons, build more temples and similar buildings...
if you r "empire" "crumbles" (please elaborate more on "crumble") after 10 cities I'm afraid you're doing something terribly wrong...
I do then I do something stupid like attack the romani, or get backstabbed by selucia.
Less action, more thought!
Yeah, here's my advice with EB - don't attack anybody. By that I mean, don't start any wars. Just make sure you're the one that finishes them. During times when you aren't at war with anybody, develop your infrastructure. A good economy is the key to victory. -M
It's possible to do that, it's only a bit hard if you are at war with ALL neighbouring factions.
In this case, you are doing it wrong XD
Btw, what faction are you playing as?
Attack rebel cities then, it will pay off in the end if you tech up be4 attacking a neighbour expecially if they r stronger or bigger.
Managing a large empire is hard, why you think every large empire on Earth has crumbled eventually.
Also, maybe your blitzing? Try taking your expansion slower and securing a province before going on.
Upload your save also, I'm pretty sure theirs a few lads who like a crumbling empire and wouldn't mind patching it back together.
If I have too much cash I always build up my fleet, Several hundred ships patrolling the seas tends to eat a fair bit of your income.
For me i'm giving KH some 10k a turn seeing how desperate their situation that is only holding Sparte in Greece and Rhodes.
I'm currently playing as baktria, I'm in debt, Have no army they at war with with the saka. (they started it by tresspassing)
I also captured 3 cities but lost them in no time. So i'm back to my starting homeland.
I feel ashamed because it's on easy/easy. That serves me right for auto-calc a major battle and lost my entire army.
I'm so crap it's unbelieveble.
P.S how do I upload saved games here?
Actually, managing an Empire as a "civilised" faction is exceptionally easy if you know what you're doing. Just conquer little by little, focus on as few warfronts as possible at a time, and make sure you use that damn money and don't be a cheapstake. Also, spend some time between conquests to build up your infrastructure. Of course if you start big like with the Seleukeis and also surrounded by numerous enemies that want to see you in the dirt on top of that, you'll have to focus on holding the pieces together. But I like to start small and become big, the RP experience is greater if you ask me.

Yeah, some of the factions that start big are just too easy. Carthage is one of them, I mean you start with a large empire, half of which is untouchable in Africa, and before you know it you can be raking in 30,000 mnai a turn (and I've still been building every turn in every settlement). I gave about 500,000 mnai to the Ptolemies and the Parthians to stop them being crushed by the Seleukids, and I still had no problems funding multiple full stacks to crush the Lusitanians and now the Romans.
If economy is not your forte and you want to be able to wage a war (or two) at the same time I suggest you try the Ptolemaioi.
Benefits:
Among the strongest and most well developed factions right from the start
Large.
Lots of sea trade makes your economy rather easy
A war with a clear front and strategy with a faction that is quite capable of putting up a fight if it wants to (the AS).
Your route of expansion leads you to other well-developed and relatively prosperous regions
You get 5000 Mnai in cash to play with and if you manage well you should be able to make some quick money by an aggressive campaign in Syria (no enemy family members to rip up your lesser troops quite so readily)
Your back is well protected during the early game. So when the inevitable happens you have had plenty of time to prepare yourself.
Your main money making cities have either walls or are out of reach for enemy forces during what will probably be your entire game.
Other factions with a strong starting economy are Rome and Carthage. While I don't know the better starting moves of Carthage, playing as Rome is, especially early on, pretty straight forward. By 237 I have as Rome conquered all of Italy, Messana and Syracuse. I have four trireme fleets (2700 upkeep each), and a cash-pile of 70-80.000 mnai. I simply can no longer spend it. My land army is two and a half full stacks big. I wonder what that would be once I conquer the Balcans, some islands and Greece.
good luck,
Andy
10++ provinces and soon on revolt? Turn taxes normal, bet u got very high, and u don't upgrade your cities... overpopulated city are tends to rebel easier...
Correction: Overpopulated cities that are not payed attention to and are only expected to pump out soldiers tend to rebel easier. If you set priorities like health and law boosting buildings first, you won't have such a great problem. Except if your capital is thousands of [in-game] miles away from the captured city, of course.

Maybe... but... law kick ass!!! they did keep my cities in blue mood!!! even with extreme tax extortion!!!
Try to play any "Barbaroi" faction (minus Romaioi), that can't upgrade their cities beyond minor city.... and then, what u see after a minor city with 20000++ Population...?
Cute Wolf...
I've 'managed' to stay below 100K, and until now I only had one nota censoria. I conquered all of Sicily, Sardin, Corsica, Massilia and I'm heading with two stacks towards the Balcan. (Which means, there are still plenty of rich areas to be conquered.) My two and a half stack are now 5 stacks and counting. If I hit any treasury-limit, these bad traits will only affect income (by corruption) right? I ask this because I guess passing these limits will be inevitable.
thanks in advance,
Andy
No, 'wealthy' and 'very wealthy' traits give stuff like an influence booster (not that useful) in exchange for an unrest booster (ew) and a personal security decrease (also ew). Should be avoided if you can, and if avoiding them means cranking out more soldiers and building a lot your path should be clear...:smash:
Ah, thanks alot. (Until now I was cheering with every 'wealthy' trait for role playing purposes:laugh4:)
kind regards,
Andy
