Vista interfering with Romeshell
Originally with EB, I could open Rome shell with the '~' key (the one to the left of the '1' key), but about a year ago it just stopped opening after I started playing EB again. I've always had vista on this computer.
According to the Frequently encountered issues thread, my problem is with an infrared device. But to my knowledge, I do not have any infrared device on my computer, and I can't find such a thing in device manager. Any ideas why Rome shell can't open?
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
I don't know. I currently got no problems and I am using vista.
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
^-- That's the only thing I've ever seen that causes that problem. It should be under Human Interface Devices or something like that.

Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
Ironically, I was just about to post a thread on this.
I just uploaded EB to my new laptop (with Vista) and everything works great but Romeshell doesn't work either.
(I need it to check out the rest of the world and auto-calc...)
What infra red device is it?
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
I have Vista and RomeShell works fine.

I had this exact problem. What worked for me is to go the "Device Manager" and click on the "Human Interface Devices" tab. If you have something called "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver," uninstall it by right clicking. It worked for me. Apparently the transceiver affects the tilde key. Hope it helps.

I'm not really sure what to say if you're still having problems. FO3 had resolution problems with the console not be3ing visible. MAybe try increasing the resolution if you can. Other than that, I don't know.

I uninstalled it, but it still won't work. What do you mean the resolution? Do you mean I can't see it at all?
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
Argh.:wall:
There's not a single driver with 'infrared' in its name in device manager, so I'm at a loss for ideas.

Same.
Anyway, it's a strange problem, is your Vista new? I mean the original one which you got with the laptop?
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
I hope upgrading to Windows 7 will fix my issue, because that is the only solution I can see for myself.

Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
run in adminstrator mode and upgrade to windows vista SP2, its a helluva lot faster and more bug fixes than SP1 and the horrid original vista

Vista is bad enough, don't risk it.

And go with Ultimate!
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
Oh and just incase anyone was wondering, after you uninstall the "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" it'll ask you to restart, don't do this because its just the program reinstalling itself. So when you're finished playing just restart and everything'll go back to normal.

Win7 is better though an upgrade is unadvised due to lack of driver support for non-new name brand components.
Re: Vista interfering with Romeshell
Okay, so I uninstalled the infrared transceiver and it still didn't work.
Then, every time I look at it even after uninstalling, it keeps coming back. I've uninstalled it like six times, but it won't go away.

I have no idea how to use computers. EB is the most daring thing I do on computers.
Sorry, ASM, I don't know what you mean...:embarassed:
