Personal Avatars Please!!!

Unfortunately, one of my biggest disappointments about this site was the fact that we had to use pre-selected avatars. Is there any chance we can change that? I'm sure the majority of the Orgahs would be mature enough to use non-explicit avatars. Hell, all I wanted was the ETW Prussian flag.

I mean, look at the Mount and Blade forum at Tale Worlds! They have a much less mature and developed community as ourselves, and they do not use any avatars that would be denied here (Or at least not that gets past the Moderators, who either are quick to perma-ban people, or people there are really immature. I've seen dozens of perma-banned people who post only a few days ago.)

My reasoning is that anyone who uses an avatar deemed inappropriate, explicit, or offensive in any way would be taken off by the Moderators anyway. We already have full control of signatures; so we can basically have a whole signature to be trusted with, but not a tiny little avatar? nonsensical if you ask me. Anyone else feel this way?

This issue was discussed a while back in the watchtower. The reason for only using totalwar avatars was a stylistic choice. I don't believe it has anything to do with worries of vulgarities or innapropriate content. This decision was put to a vote and the anti-expansionists prevailed.

Of course, we're still waiting for someone to do the necessary editing and uploading of the ETW images. I'm sure that no one would complain if the glorious person who did the work included a few faction flags in the selection :wink:

hey, tell me who to talk to and I'd be happy to take pics of the major faction flags.

We need to find someone to do the work first.

I love the beautiful uniformity of this site. There is one thing I cannot stand about forums, and that is custom avatars. I almost had an orgasm when I found this site - seriously. There is great beauty in uniformity, splendid sense of order, of organisation. Of everything that is not 4chan/Facebook/YouTube/etc -ish.


The simple fact that the forums are aesthetically superior disarms all your logic, and sense, as well as the support of liberal restrictions policies, which I too agree with.

hey, I love uniformity too; honestly I just want the damned ETW flags and some character pics up, and the flags for previous games.

If you're voluntering then I'd suggest you put together a range of ETW avatars and pass them to TosaInu. If they're acceptable I'm sure he would add them to the pool.

They would have to be exactly the same size as the current avatars (56*56 IIRC but don't quote me on that) and a thin border of some kind is traditional. Small file sizes are a must in order to preserve fast page loads, most of our current ones are in GIF format.

50*70 will be the correct size then. I made my own avatar and I was never any good at picture editing; I remember having a devil of a job cutting it to size. I guess after my 20th attempt no one had the heart to tell me it was still wrong, hehe.

Yes the one thing I have always hated about the .org is that I cannot use my beloved custom Pokemon avatar and Sailor Moon signature.

for an avatar? doubt it. those were made to the required specifications of a 50X70 avatar, though I looked, and having it at 90X70 is a much better ratio. of course, it's not up to us mortals.

If Tosa approves these, I might make avatars of maybe significant units and some other factions, so lets hope he likes em!

I would suggest rotating the original flag pics 90 degrees (clockwise, if I'm not mistaken), then resizing to prevent the stretched look.

Yeah, rotate them like Drone said. The Russian flag is really spiffy to me. Ditto the Austrian one.

I wish I could resize them, but rules is rules. I'll ask, but i doubt ill get a yes.

By "resize", I mean take the original from the game files, rotate 90 degrees clockwise, then resize them to fit the 50(horizontal)x70(vertical) size. Rotating them will allow you to fit them within the required dimensions without skewing the aspect ratio (too much). The flags will look like they are hanging from their sides, instead of flying on a pole, but it's the best you can get with the given dimensions.

No, I edited the images and cropped them and majority of them have the default border which came with the flag. (Austria, France, Ottoman, Poland, Prussia, Russia, Spain and US)

If you want to add a border to them, you can go ahead.

hmmm....I like Beskars better, no offence. most of them look really good (like U.P., GB, France, Marathas, Ottomans, Sweden, U.S) but the ones with symbols (Austria, Russia, Prussia, Spain, PL) just look a bit odd.
