New York mandates swine flu vaccine for health workers

New York has decided to take the unprecedented stance of mandating that all health care workers must get the swine flu vaccine or lose their jobs. Considering that the regular flu kills tens of thousands of people every year, and that vaccine isn't mandatory, I can't understand their reasoning here. Swine flu is spread by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching one's face/nose/mouth than by breathing it in so proper hygiene/hand washing/cleaning contaminated surfaces is the best way to keep it from spreading. One is just as likely to be contaminated in school, public restrooms, the grocery store, toll collector etc... than at the hospital. Yet none of the people working these places are mandated to take the vaccine. I'm against mandating that people have to take this vaccine. Provide it for those that want it, but don't force it on them. What do all y'all think?

Even doctors and nurses don't wash their hands as often as they should.

I expect they are mandating the vaccine in this case because people are more worried about swine flu than the regular flu.

Makes sense to me. It prevents infections happening due to transmission from an health worker. Considering they usually work with the most fragile people in their countries, it makes sense.

I know, where will this crazyness stop ?

Will the goverment start collecting rubbish ? (this would lead straight to big brother no privacy then)

Maybe the goverment will start giving us numbers and ways of identifying us ?

Beware stopping the flu is just the start! facism/communism here we come!

I have to be honest, I am not happy with this Swine flu lark. My cousin is in intensive care due to an allergic reaction to medication the doctor perscribed him and they kept trying to fob him off on Tamiflu when originally trying to get medical care. (because initial allergic reaction symptoms are similar to a flu's) then tried to fob him off with paracetamol.

Swine flu is just the flu, basically, people should get over themselves.

It is anti-muslim sentiment, what a shame. People need to open their hearts.
