I hosted a previous incarnation of this down at Total War Center. Here is the thread. Reading this game may give you an idea of what kinds of clues I leave. However I will be changing my style to keep it slightly unpredictable after a successful catching of the serial killer.
This is similar in some respects to a mafia game except everyone playing is on the side of the "town". You'll be getting clues every day. You need to deduce who the Serial Killer is. It is not the game host and will probably not be anyone playing the game. In other words, the Serial Killer I have chosen is unaware they are the Serial Killer. However, they are a member of Totalwar.org.
The Serial killer (person I choose randomly) will be killing certain people. These may be specific people, to give the Serial Killer some kind of signature. For higher difficulty, a single kill among the others will not conform to the standard style. For maximum difficulty, the kills will be mostly random. However, accusing or arresting can be hazardous to your health, if you accuse or arrest incorrectly. If you die, you can no longer win against the current serial killer.
Rules:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Anyone can play. If you think you know who the Serial Killer is, post
Arrest: (name)
in bold. If you simply want to make an accusation, post
Accuse: (name)
If you are the first to Arrest the Serial Killer, you win.
If you are the first to Accuse the Serial Killer, you automatically get at least second place.
If you Arrest the wrong person, the Serial Killer has a 1 in 2 chance of killing you.
If you Accuse the wrong person, the Serial Killer has a 1 in 20 chance of killing you.
If you Accuse the right person, the Serial Killer has zero chance of ever killing you. (Could be an important part of your strategy)
You can only make one accusation per phase.
You can only make one arrest per phase.
You can accuse and arrest in a single day if you wish. (two different suspects)
Every phase will last at least 24 hours, possibly 48 once things get rolling. You can discuss with the other players ("detectives") and compare notes. You never know, they might be able to help you solve the case. Or perhaps you'll end up solving it for them... :sweatdrop:
To play the game, make an accusation.
You may also indicate you are playing by posting "IN"
NEW RULES
Ok. Now that we have gotten a feel for the game, it's time to up the ante. There will be something every one of the murder victims have in common. Remember, there's only so many members of the .org, and I'm not going to be digging through the massive amount of 200 post-count and below members to find more victims. The amount of victims killed per night relates to how large the victim pool is. If there's only a few people meeting the criteria, then there will only ever be a few victims. If there's a larger victim pool, then it will start off with more victims and it will increase exponentially every day until they are all gone.
1. When the pool of victims is depleted, the Serial Killer will roll a six sided die and take out that many remaining detectives. Who those detectives are will be determined by random.org.
So it is now possible for the Serial Killer to win the game outright.
2. Any 24-hour phase where there are no accusations or arrests will also result in a Serial Killer victory.
Typically you'll be given 5 to 6 days to safely solve the case. After a week, prepare to die. Please be aware of these changes. Are you ready? :holmes:
Added Rules:
For arrests to count, you must correctly ID something I intended to be a clue, (besides the letter clues) in the way it was intended, and state that as evidence during your arrest.
For now, accusations will not require a case.

Do you have what it takes to crack this case? I have over 700 posts but less than 3000
Day One begins now. Feel free to post an accusation or arrest, and also feel free to post "in" if you want to play but wish to abstain from accusing or arresting. You have 24 hours. Unless you get really lucky, I'll move the game along in short order and you'll have more clues.

Alright, Pizza. I'm in.
The killer has a D in his name. Unlikely that it starts with a D too obvious. Pizza would never start with that as a clue. Martyr was killed for his communist tendancies so its likely the killers SN has something to do with ANTI-Communisim. Additionally the keyword CRACK should be noted.
I'll make no accusations or arrests just yet and wait to collect a few more clues.

So the serial killer isn't a member who signed up?

Re: Serial Killer Game
Generally speaking, it is not someone playing the game, but I can't guarantee that. They could sign up and blow that theory to bits.
Everyone has had a chance to discuss and accuse for this phase. Should I wait the full 24 hours or move on to Day Two?

I just hope you chosen some one who is somewhat active, because if you don't, I would never guess then probably because I don't even know them.

Re: Serial Killer Game
Given that the list of suspects includes only members of totalwar.org, with a certain post count range, and fitting certain criteria, you don't even need to know the person in question to be able to solve it. However, it may take a few days to gather clues.

It's not a mafia game.

Beskar is the winner. AggonyDuck was the serial killer.
I have no :daisy: clue how Beskar solved it based on those obscure clues, so perhaps he would like to explain. I suppose it was technically possible to solve it based on those clues, but... in a scary, you'd-have-to-be-inside-my-brain kind of way. I am seriously scared. There are a LOT of people on the .org. For Beskar to have picked correctly is unbe-(expletive)-lievable. Congratulations. Not only did everyone survive the game, but you caught the Serial Killer before he was able to kill his second victim. Congratulations again. Now I have to come up with a whole different Serial Killer and try this again. Dang, Beskar!!! :laugh4: :sweatdrop: :laugh4: :sweatdrop:
A perfect score.
Now... as is customary... I'll explain "all" the clues... :sweatdrop:

_Martyr_
His avatar is very similar to AggonyDuck's avatar. The clue here was GOING TO BE that everyone AggonyDuck killed would have a similar avatar.
It was very painful.
AggonyDuck reminds me of pain.
Do you have what it takes
AggonyDuck has a "D" in his name.
crack this case.
All the clues would rhyme with "quack". First day was "crack", next day would have been "whack", etc... quack makes you think of a duck. And the 700-3000 range would have solved it from there. So there was a reason for all those clues... but I didn't think anyone would solve it Day One. I am going to chalk this up to a random guess or a fluke. Otherwise I am now officially scared of Beskar.
