Nice Find, there is definitely Improvement on the graphical side, I really like the Strat View.
I hope game-play wise it is also improved.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
It looks amazing (I don't have ETW yet so don't know how much of a change it is)... but I wish they would stop evolving campaign strategy at the cost of developing battlefield tactics - after all, it's the fighting that we all want it for, not "Lemmings: Total War, Nappy edition".

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
It looks like the same with E:TW that everyone in the same unit has the same face. (look at picture 2)
-
Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
Detail is higher, even if faces are largely the same (note the two in the other picture, the one with the beard has the same face but just with a beard on it).
..*sigh*...time to get a new GFX card.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
Great pics. Damn x)), I think I need a new PC so that I could play new Total Wars on high graph.s
+ I'm very curious, what do they plan to develope after Napoleon.

It's a different unit, but yes, it is an army of clones.

I like that the Black Watch soldier has a musket in one hand and a pipe in the other.

Some nice battle screens although if i didnt knew i would have thought it was a first person shooter or adventure set in the naopleonic era. Uneccessarily detailed 3D models for a strategy game i would say.
The campaign map looks straight out of Disney movies though and Napoleon looks like Winnie the Pooh in uniform, pinky and soft.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
Most impressive! :2thumbsup:

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
CA should just say screw it and make a FPS out of the engine since that other company has already come out with a historical FPS that's sold on the fact that there's a Total War amount of dudes running around.

I 100% agree...how often do ANY of us zoom in during a battle to bother looking at this crap? Honestly, I've TRIED and even when I'm making an effort to zoom in to watch the thing up close and personal its very rare.
Wasted effort on flashy graphic at the expense of the quality of the Ai or indeed the campaign in general is to be expected now from CA isn't it?
-
Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
Just for the sake of arguement, sometimes I do just to watch the combat. Sometimes I even pop into the first person mode when there's not much to do. Though its an issue of diminishing returns I agree since you don't get to see it most of the time.
For arteeesus, its always been the effects that need to be top notch rather than unit detail anyways. Remember the fog in STW? People still talk about how awesome the weather effects from Shogun were.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
The only time I zoom in to see the soldiers as anything but squares of blue ants is when I need to see if they've finished reloading and can advance on an enemy regiment without stopping to reload again when they get in range *facepalm*. Time to sack a few 3D artists and hire some talented AI guy? Or go all out for photo-realistic retard armies.

3D men and their animations are intrinsically linked with the battle mechanics; in short they (the mechanics) are made far more difficult to code, balance and release bug free because of the added complexity. These pretty shots we all admire now cost an arm and a leg in terms of gameplay, playbalance and a bug free release.
But they won't, oh they won't give up. :laugh4:
Because sprites look like "ATARI".
Because they "can't go back".
Because its not "realistic".:laugh4:
Because it means less "quality" :laugh4::laugh4:
Because "that's what hardcore fans want" :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
But most of all because it makes them money; lots of it.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
I kind of agree with you - but then look how many threads there are about clone armies and inaccurate uniforms, probably as many about poor AI:dizzy2:
You hit the nail on the head at the end - flashy graphics do shift units - it's not until it's been dl'd from steam and we're playing the first couple of turns we see a weak AI.
Still, being a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan, I'm used to my hopes being dashed so will buy it early and be disappointed on release day.
That said, those gfx do look sexy....

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
To be honest, I haven't seen anyone complain about the graphics, or clone armies, here at .org in a long time, until just a few days ago when lots popped up, all started by the same guy ;). IIRC, one of the very first replies was a comment about complaining about graphics with the current state of the AI.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
RTW had clone armies as well...
It's mods have clone armies...
But I don't hear people in EB forum complaining about this..
I don't care even if they have clown(:clown:) armies in NTW since good AI is a bit more important.. at least to me..

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
But MIITW didn't and that was the last iteration of TW.
That's like saying that the Sun goes around the Earth because the Ancient Greeks believed it.

Aye, but if you look at the bigger picture i.e. gameplay rather than one minor point of graphical idiosyncrasy, it's really a case of CA saying gamers don't want to use the wheel (gameplay) because their new pyramid (graphics) looks better... It's like painting a scratched railing on the Titanic when it's sinking - there are bigger issues they should be spending their time and resources on.
After Time Commanders was filmed for the BBC, I reckon CA got a bit carried away with the novel idea that gamers could use Total War to make their own wee war movies... which is great an' all... but they seem to have decided that EVERYONE wants to zoom the camera around at ground level like little kids do with their toy soldiers & model railways, "oo"ing and "ah"ing at the great visuals instead of commanding the army.
I want NapoleonTW to be great, I really do... but we'll probably have to rely on online multiplayer games to get a decent fight. I don't know if I'll have broadband again by then, but I hope that there will still be Total War gamers playing online when I eventually do.

Re: Napoleon TW - Screens: Campaign Map + Battles
No one ever complained about the so called "clone" armies until M2 was out and CA it self came out to market the new variable weapons, armor and faces of soldiers in a unit. Up until then i hadn't heard a single complain.
Its after M2 that a certain part of teh fanbase started bringing this up as a problem for ETW. CA are really reapping what they've sown. By putting the emphasis on these aspects they attracted the respective fans. Now it is deemed unthinkable to have "clone" armies by some people. This feature in particular is linked with the detailed 3D models and close ups, because obviously you can't see the difference if you are playing TW as a strategy game zoomed out.
It all binds together and its the same reason why the campaign map looks out like a companion piece to Disney's "Little mermaid".

Disney: Total War? You've just added an entry to the long list of funny pictures I need to make.
