Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I already am, and its still November.
I like the atmosphere and the weather but I don't like being cold
I like the puds but not so big on turkey
I even have a chocolate advent calendar and apart from not believing in santa anymore, still act like a 6 year old as far as christmas goes! :2thumbsup:
p.s. you didn't need to know any of this, in fact this post was probably a waste of your time. :balloon2:
p.s 2: but at the same time this isn't spam :2thumbsup:

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I'm 50 and I still love Christmas and the Christmas season. I could do without so much commercialism, but try to ignore that aspect. Be it a clear, crisp winter night and a walk out amongst the lights listening to Christmas music or indoors with naught but candles and tree lights listening to music or a Christmas movie/show, it is a wonderful time of the year (ugh, I just sang the last part of this sentence :laugh4:).
That being said, I think once a year is enough. That helps make it more of a magical time revisit year after year.

I agree completely Gregoshi :2thumbsup:

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
The thing that puzzles me most about Christmas is various movies, plays books etc. all protesting against the commercialisation of Christmas, despite begging for you to go buy that particular product which has that message in.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
It loses some of its charm as you get older.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
The Commercialization of Christmas completely shot my enthusiasm for the Holiday season for quite a few years. Usually we have a big family get together, and for probably the past ten years it was buy as many presents as you can, give them to everybody, and then leave as soon as it was all done. Not much fun for whoever was hosting (usually being me)... so last year we decided to do a gift exchange instead, with a 50.00$ Limit on what you could buy, and I gotta say, that was preferable on every level. It wasn't about the gifts, or somebody outdoing the other, just being with your family and friends, and having some good laughs.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I'm excited for Christmas this year as there are some things that I actually want this year.
-
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I already know what I'm getting for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to that, and I enjoy some of the family traditions on Christmas, but other than that it isn't a huge thing for me. Seeing as I work in the toy department of a Department store my work for the next month is going to be incredibly stressful and busy, so I don't look forward to that.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Forget about Christmas! I just cannot wait to be on vacations and go back to my hometown!
*I'm one week away from it. The worst week of the semester. :skull:

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
What is with everyone complaining about the commercialization? **** values, buy an extra TV and do your part in getting the economy rolling again. To do otherwise goes against the message of charity because if you aren't buying crap for yourself, you aren't creating the demand to spur the creation of more jobs to open up for your fellow neighbors.
tl;dr: Commercialization is the true meaning of Christmas, it is the giving of yourself (more specifically your money) to benefit everyone, with a side effect of benefiting yourself as well (but that is because Jesus is awesome like that).

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I agree with acin, gift giving has always been important to people as a form of bonding.

Really? I was kind of trolling there, but whatever, I'll roll with it.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Well if we're talking about Christmas/Commercialization/Economy ... they can take their jobs and (lack) of money and snuff it for all I care. Especially this time of the year, I'll go out of my way to avoid retail chains, not because I don't want to spend money, but because I'd rather avoid immensely long lines, and having to rub elbows with every angry penniless jerk out there who thinks Christmas is about spending their year's savings.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Well, I'm more excited about it being Summer and 4 months of holidays. :beam:

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I don't care really, I'll take a random summer's barbecue, which is just about every weekend when the weather is good, over christmas any day. Beef and bikini's yay. So we are doing the same thing inside, it has it's charm I guess but I hate the winter.
-
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I'd look forward to it a lot more if I didn't have so many exmas in January...
Summer is better though, imo

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Yes until Santa Clause started to think that I'm naughty and stopped the Christmas Pressie supplies.
Now its just the same as every other day.. I do enjoy the Christmas songs and illumination though.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
yea, but just because everyone is happier (esp the cashiers) and the roads are empty of traffic.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I like the Christmas period, mostly because I usually don't have to work more than 3 or 4 days during the last two weeks of the year :2thumbsup:

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I'm really looking forwards to seeing my family for a couple of weeks, and having a monster barbie on chrissie day with all the rellies. My parents also have a pool which is great during the hottest week of the year(christmas coming straight after the summer solstice here). It's practically tradition that christmas eve, christmas day, and boxing day are all over 40C.
Also, this.

Your post reminds me of a terrible joke about Indonesia and Santa. Not sure if I should tell it.

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
like Thanksgiving, its a "meh" for me. even before we stopped celebrating it, it was just sort of a
"well, i already got all the good presents for channukah. now i get the 1-gift harry potter lego set that i never even alluded to wanting and am now stuck with in place of something cool."
of course getting like nothing from my dads parents and my moms dad was kinda crappy, we'll see what they send for this channukah.
i always loved the smell of the tree though. i hate it when people get those fake trees that dont drop needles or smell good. lame.
the spirit of the holiday isnt the original though; i dont see how its celebrating jesus' birth when it was in April, or how family even matters when everyone just cares about presents. too commercialized now:
ironically, channukah, a Jewish holiday, is not commercialized......winter makes everything backwards.
