since this whole season is all about getting, what have people done lately for people that are less fortunate than ourselves?
i spent most of the morning at a local food bank, and i plan on going again on Sunday.

Nothing personally. :embarassed:
I do think its better to help personally as you are though, rather than donate through charities where your money is diluted into practically nothing. Some Appeals ask for up to £150 ($250?) per person, something which is demanding at the best of times, not to mention at christmas...
But buy donating food, you know that your helping someone get eat and you see the positive effects.
For example, people with drinking problems might get money and waste it on there habit, where as if food is accepted it shows it is needed. Sorry if I'm confusing..... :laugh4:
I contributed to the national aggregate demand.
EDIT:
Charities aren't infallible. A lot of the money you give to the bigger or more general "Help the Needy" or "Children in Need" etc. is wasted on admin. I make a specific point of not giving to big charities, and especially not to things like Red Nose Day etc. I won't be guilt-tripped into giving to a charity just because everyone else does. And I absolutely refuse to give to any sort of animal charity. Did you know that in the UK, the Donkey Sanctuary receives more money than Age Concern?
We sent a deluxe package of food and goodies to my wife's grandma, who is both poor and too proud to accept charity on any occasion but Christmas. So every year we pack about a hundred bucks' worth of groceries into a huge box and get it to her.
I took my daughters the animal shelter, we didn't really work there or anything. But they liked playing with all the cute neglected kittens.
This is what I meant when I said money going into charities is diluted, perhaps I exaggerated a little, but same general point. How dare me.... :whip:
I find collecting & helping personally is better as you know you've personally got the money without it being worn at before the needy receive it.
I tipped the strippers really well last night.
You're better off giving to either specific cause charities, such as Spinal Research, or Marie Curie (Both of which I give to as thanks for them being extraordinarily helpful in the past), or local ones, such as North West Air Ambulance (If you live in the North West of England naturally).
Thats my man!

Uhhh... Recently nothing but I donated 120 hours to teaching ESL students how to use computers and another 130 helping at a place called Marin Link and the Marin Womens hall of fame.
Gave about $70 worth of basic supplies (toothpaste, soap, etc) to the salvation army. For some reason government assistance doesn't cover these basic items.
I did some packing for FeedMyStarvingChildren. Also in something somebody else has done for me, some random guy at In-N-Out bought food for me and a few friends! That was really cool...
Edit: To clarify, we weren't asking for money, he just came up to the cashier and offered to pay for all of us
Uhm...I've been walking the dawg daily.
