An experimental game in the vein of GeneralHankerchief's previous"The consequences" game, a text based sort of adventure game where the uninformed majority control a small minority character. I encourage discussion and debate between all playing. Orders from people who have signified that they are "In" will only be accepted, for ease of keeping the game serious, and likewise preventing someone from coming in and ruining a team's plan. I will keep an updated list of all involved on the first page.
You have an inventory, consisting of pockets of your clothing, and any bags you are carrying. If you enter a vehicle, then that can also be used as a temporary inventory to store larger items. If you come across any other large containers which can hold items, throw it out there, you never know what might happen ;)
Orders will be accepted in an italicized format, and the first orders posted will be taken. Please be careful about this, I urge you very strongly to think and talk it out, logic could be your greatest ally, and be as creative as possible, I won't rule anything out, just try and take it a little serious :P
I'm going to keep the story on a couple of guidelines I have set up, but it can open up into anything, you decide the story for the most part.
Also, be patient with me, this is my first time hosting such a game, and I will promise to be patient with your orders ;P

With that I let it begin, good luck "town" and welcome to...
You're in a cold sweat, running as fast as your legs can carry you. You have no idea how far away from them you are, but you need to keep running anyway. They might be slow but they outnumber you by far.
As you round another corner you are confronted with a mass of parked cars, and a large road that snakes up, and onto the bridge out of town, one of the few ways out, definitely the closest, and therefor the fastest at this point.
To your back, your worst nightmares, personified.
To your front, the closest road to salvation, the only obstacles are the stopped cars.
To your right, a few roads, leading to a movie theater, and far enough down, your house.
To your left there is swampland...
What do you do, where do you go?

I can only feed you sensory information of the player. Anything not mentioned in the writeup was purposefully vague.

I'm thinking forward. I know from experience, parked cars aren't much of an obstacle to somebody on foot.

Re: The Art of Ruin
Ok guys... May as well get the debate going...
Heres my thoughts..
- Horror type game, so the people/things following are probably monsters of some type... The abandoned cars etc further supports this....
- The straight ahead route I think is just too obvious so will probably be a trick... The way he said "the only obstacles are the cars" makes me think theres something nasty we cant see.
- Our house would be a good place to head in my opinion.... But first we have to lose whatever is chasing us.
Your thoughts

Swampland would be the easiest way to lose a croud, though it would also be a dangerous route.

A horror type game and yet you suggest going home to lose the things? ~;p
Yes, there's sure to be something up ahead, but then there's going to be something in every direction. I do think the best option is to go straight, or maybe go home for some supplies then head to the bridge as fast as possible.
Also, the things sound like zombies to me

Re: The Art of Ruin
I recommend we weigh our options before we decide.
My thoughts is that the swamp is interesting but we could get slowed down and surrounded, trapped, or lost.
If we are to leave this place, we may not be able to come back. So the road out of here is tempting, but... do we leave right now?
The house... our character's house... sounds like the best option to me. However, there's also a chance of being surrounded in there. Maybe there's weapons or cash or something we can use there. Chances are we cannot come back to it.
I would recommend the house because I hate to not do what seems like an obvious good move, especially if we can't ever make that move again.

Haha! I was hoping you'd join, I had to base it in staten island because it's the only place I know well enough to portray as such. Glad to have you here.
And to the others who joined as well, thank you, I hope to not disappoint!

In. I say we head for the movies and lose the creatures by going out the back exit, before going home to get some supplies and possibly weapons.

While running along the highway, you glance to your right and see a road, you immediately recognize it as the (in)famous, Forest Avenue. This road should take you over to Mariners Harbor, and your house. You turn right, look over the guardrail and down to the street, it's not a high jump, as you are still far from the bridge, you jump it and land about 15 feet down, rolling out of it. You are now standing in the middle of Forest Avenue, facing North/NorthEast. Stadium 16, the local movie theater, is a good run from here ahead, but you can make it judging by the speed of your pursuers, you also doubt they could take jumping that guardrail, and the fall. They look rather...fragile...
Ahead to your left is a self storage facility, offering incredibly low prices on storage units, which is good for the local gang-bangers, for about a dollar a month they can store hot evidence and other gang items there. You sigh at the state of your neighborhood, but what can you do.
Ahead and around a curve to your right is Stadium 16, a United Artists movie theater, currently showing are some pretty good movies, but their prices are a little much for food. $20 for a large popcorn? I mean come on... Anyway lots of shootings around there have made it a dangerous place to be regardless of who you are.
Just past the self storage facility you see the home depot, it is across from the movie theater and it has a large parking lot which is often used when the movie theater's lot is full. You wonder for a second if they're open, then sigh, "Like it matters anymore..." you shake your head and look forward.
Behind you, going west on forest leads to the previously mentioned swamps, and some abandoned factories. Further down the road is where you adopted your cat, cute little guy, probably dead now.
There is nothing else around you but cars....
Note:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Distance Estimates. Movie theater is about 150 yards away, an easy run in one turn.
Storage is about 40 yards away, you could get there with much energy to spare.
Your house is somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 yards away, but you can't judge that distance so well right now you can't even see it...it would probably take 2 or more turns to get there...
General Info: Yes, the writeups are long, but they contain, mostly, good information to set the scene as well as help spur you guys on. I am really rooting for you guys to play well, and I'll try my best to help you without giving things away too obviously. Think of these thoughts as the true thoughts of someone in this situation, so hints might not always be accurate but... it's a chance. I did mention your house was far away as well, but it is your house so...:laugh4:
Also yes, the distance measurements are straight from google maps, so feel free to use that to plan your way around, if you think it'll actually help

Hmmmm.... Zombies..
Home depot would have supplies... Since there are repeated mentions of the state of the town, I dont think anyone would mind if you broke in etc.... Search around for a weapon of sometype before making your way to your house?

Re: The Art of Ruin
Caught my eye is the storage facility. If we had some way of busting into the storage facility and checking the units for items, weapons, or whatever.... It's more a question of time. We could find something that could break inside those units, but would it be worth the time expenditure. If stolen goods, weapons, or money might be inside the self storage unit, as might be indicated by the hints about the criminal element, then that might be a high priority for us.
Home depot might have tools we could use. That might be easier to break into, and then it might allow us to raid the storage facility.
Goal is to get to the house and soon, but... perhaps we quickly check the storage facility to check on the state of its security (Iron gates? Giant padlocks? Signs of if it has already been broken into? Perhaps the office itself might have keys...) It shouldn't take but a few seconds to survey the storage facility. If we are to break into this place or home depot, it might be a good idea to scout it first to see if doubling back here is worth it.
Movie theater might have food, and could be easy to bust into. Hey, free candy. But priority seems low.
I would like to at least check the self-storage office to see if it is locked, and give the place a quick visual scan to see if it looks like it might be worth breaking into.
After that, we might decide to just skip to home depot (or somewhere else)

Re: The Art of Ruin
I'd think the storage facility would have some way of getting into a storage unit that is padlocked. I think we should head to the Home Depot first just incase that isn't true, since it would have to tools you could use to break into the storage units.

Oh, in that case we won't be breaking into anything unless they've evacuated... better rethink the strategy, huh?
I can't imagine trying to shoplift a powertool without getting caught... but going into the movie theater and getting a ticket could make us safer.
-If the things chasing us are zombies, we will have alerted a large number of people to the threat
-If they're not zombies, there's always safety in numbers. We could hide in plain view.
How much cash do we have?

Re: The Art of Ruin
Well presuming that people are zombies and we aren't restricted and ok to break laws, I think going to home depot first would be the best thing, then to the deposit to get some "hot" items, then the cinema for food/drink, then to the house.
Once we get to the house, we got to remember to strip naked and examine ourselves initimiately infront of the mirror, something tells me from Split's choices in GH's game, that we should probably seriously check it out.
