That Creeping Darkness - Summaries

This will serve as a quick reference for all the day and night write ups in That Creeping Darkness. Please do not post here.

Welcome to my second large game hosted at the Org. This game will be keeping the spirit of Whispers of the Night with a strong narrative that is in the hands of those playing - your actions will dictate the story! Every player will have a role at one point or another, if not in the beginning, then in the ending, or even in death - yes, that is right, in this game death may be the most empowering thing of all!

So, what is a mafia game without some rules to give the players some idea of what is going on? Lets start with basics.

1. Phases will consist of 24 hour periods with a maximum 24 hour extension - after that, the round will end, no exceptions.
2. Voting during the day phase can be done through the standard "Vote: YLC", "Unvote:YLC". I will not allow no lynches, and abstains will not count as a no lynch. I do however, allow "Stay of Execution". A Stay of Execution leaves the fate of the lynchee in the hands of Ian Alexander Lovell, whom I will explain later.
3. You may reveal in private if you wish, but you may not reveal or quote me in public unless you have hosts permission - PM if you do wish to do so. Dead may not reveal any information to any living player at anytime, both public or private by any means - this includes quoting me, chat logs, screenshots, translations, sign language, klingon, carrier pigeon, etc.
4. The dead may talk in the thread, but are not allowed do so during the Day unless otherwise specified in their role PM.
5. You will be WoGged after 3 days/night of straight inactivity, and will die without becoming a Ghost
6. Please PM for any clarification you may need - can't stress this enough.

Now, on to the "special" rules for this game...

The Mafia
The Mafia Godfather will be known from the start - yea, you heard me. However, he is unlynchable until all of his henchmen are dead, and I will not tell you when this happens. You will know this Godfather as "Ian Alexander Lovell". At anytime the there is a tie in the vote, I will not decide, the person playing Ian Alexander will decide the method and those executed. If Stay of Execution is chosen, the lynchee will not die immediately, but will die when Ian Alexander chooses when he will die, day or night.

The Ghost Town
When good, non-mafia players die, they become Ghosts, and move to a Ghost Council QuickTopic, which will come in your PM. The Ghost Council behaves just like the Town does, except instead of voting for people to lynch, they vote to use one of their collective abilities to use for the night. You will get PM's after death, detailing what kind of Ghost you are - beware! Some Ghosts are a bit different then other Ghosts...

The Town
This is what the vast majority of players will be - good honest townsfolk. Some of you will have roles to start with, most will not. However, Any of the power roles may select an "Apprentice" - from then on, once the apprentice has been selected, they must work with the apprentice in unison or otherwise their ability will suffer a 50% failure rate. After 3 nights of apprenticeship, the apprentice gains all of the abilities of the original role, and both will now have a 100% success rate. Only the original power role may create apprentices, and the apprentice can only be created with the consent of both parties - just be careful to whom you reveal, and please inform me when you plan on creating an apprentice.

Other forces afoot
Not everyone is against the mafia, and not everyone is an enemy of the town. Be careful - any role which falls under this is completely out for their own agenda, and are unusually powerful as well. With the proper enticement however, they can be turned to one side or the other, and become a new champion for either the mafia or the town.

"...Now, due to the nature of Psychic 0, I have decided that I cannot simply wait for him or her to come forth, and it would be to cruel of me to simply starve this town just so I can get to one person. So, I have decided that as of today, martial law has been declared and I authorize the usage of lynching. You, my dear townsfolk, will root this out yourselves. I know you to be good, kind-hearted souls, and would not wish ill upon your neighbors, and thus, while my search proves fruitless, yours will prove most fruitful."

As Doctor Lovell was helped down from the podium in front of the town hall, many mouths were agape, in both wonder, excitement, and trepidation. The day had just begun, and the great Ian Alexander Lovell has now tasked the town with hunting down and finding the psychics who now plagued them...

Doctor Lovell rested snugly in his chair inside the room of the Mayor, flipping through charts and photos, content in the knowledge that the townspeople would see the light and bring him the head of Psychic 0. Taking a moment to knock the remains of the tobacco out of his pipe, Lovell decided to ring for his most trusted associate.

"Mr.Black, would you be kind enough to bring me Andrew Bond, Nick Koeman, Jesse Zheng, and the delightful Mark Chapman?"

The speaker on the buzzer crackled and a smooth, energetic voice answered. "Why, of course Herr Doctor, would you like them with hood or without hood? And which type of rope do you desire?"

Ian's eyes narrowed. "Mr.Black, no gallows humor please - I only wish to speak with them. A chat, not an execution."

"Oh, is that what they call it now-a-days? It appears I am behind on the times, I'll have to use that the next I see a woman." A click at the end told the stunned and mildly disgusted Doctor Lovell that Mr.Black had done as ordered, despite the lip.

A few minutes later, the doors to the office burst open and Mr.Black, in his black tuxedo and sunglasses on, walked in, leading four other men into the office. Bowing swiftly, the smiling Mr.Black swung his arm open as if to showcase the four men, and then with a click of his heels, spun around and left the office at a brisk pace.

Lovell motions to the other four men to sit as he pours himself a glass of tonic. "You'll have to forgive me, I have this terrible cough and the drink helps settle it. Now, as to why I called you in here...I do believe Mr.Koeman, that from these reports, it is you whom I am looking for."

Mr.Koeman only returned a smile. "Oh, come now, if it were me, you wouldn't have needed to go this far to get me - I mean, everyone in town knows me, even a couple wanderers who came in a few days ago, god bless them, poor things tired and hungry and I gave them the scraps of beef after the days work, anyway, they know me, so they know there isn't anything special about me."

Doctor Lovell scratches his chin and nods. "Hmm, then, I could be mistaken! It does happen, my judgment isn't always spot on, and I see your a god fearing man Mr.Koeman...but what of the fellow next to you, Jesse Zhang. From the reports, it would seem he is the guilty one if you are not...waht do you say to that?" Doctor Lovell takes another sip as Jesse moves to speak, but is quickly interrupted by Mark Chapman.

"It's that Kelly Green gal! Has to be her! You said so yourself, didn't you? That Patient 0 is a woman?! She's the newest resident here an-"

Andrew Bond coughs into his hand, interrupting Marks train of thought. Mark raises an eyebrow to Andrew, who looks annoyed. "It's kelly, not Kelly..."

Mark's jaw drops. "Who pronounces their name that way?! Give me a break! I'll call her Kelly as much as I want, thats the way your supposed to say it! Kelly, Kelly, Kelly! Not kelly...who does that?!

Andrew is immediately upon his feet. "Ha! If your so ignorant of that, then you must be from out of town, because kelly makes sure everyone knows that, and since she works round the clock at the library, you'd have seen her by now! It's him mister Lovell, it's him! KILL THE PSYCHIC, KILL HIM!"

Marks jaw drops as the others point fingers at him, and Lovell claps his hands together! "Yes, indeed, it must be him now! Guards! Seize this man and take him outside to be executed!" Drool starts to drip from Marks mouth as he continues to be stunned, until the doors burst open and a man in a trenchcoat and gasmask enters, grabbing Mark by the arm and lifting him up to drag him away. Mark quickly responds by grabbing the man in the gasmask by the neck.

Looking down almost pitifully at Mark, the man in the gasmask seems to be unbothered by the hand squeezing his throat. Marks eyes suddenly glow a deep purple, and in an otherworldly voice, he commands. "Release me, mortal, and obey! For I am Ramiel, a Watcher from on high sent by the Elder Go-"

His words stop short as Gasmask grabs Mark's head and shoves it into his chest cavity. After a second of twitching, the body falls quiet, and with a gentle touch by Gasmask, the body begins to fade away into ash.

Lovell claps his hands together. "Simply stunning! Amazing isn't it gentlemen, what he can do? Now, that seems to be one down, but not the one I am after - you may all leave now and go home, but please try harder next time!" Gasmask simply stares through the three remaining men as the leave, who as soon as the round the corner, run in relief towards the crowd to tell them of the news...

"I am glad you could see me so late at night, Lord Winter." Doctor Lovell poured himself two glasses of tonic, and offered one to Lord Winter, who refused.

"May I inquire as to why I was so urgently taken from my Mansion by your assistants?" Lord Winter inquired. Leaning back in his seat, Lovell smiled and opened his arms wide. "But of course you may know. I had wishes to inquire of any help you would offer me."

Lord Winter raised an eyebrow. "Help? I am sorry sir, but I no longer have the vast fortune I once did, only enough to last me through my life time, and I must use it sparingly. I mean no offence when I say this good doctor, but I also wish to remove myself from these dirty matters of "mob rule"...it puts a bad taste in my mouth."

Lovell's face turned to a frown. "I am so sorry to here you cannot aid us while your living. You are dismissed."

Lord Winter nodded and moved to stand up, relief on his face. A thick plastic bag suddenly enveloped his head, as Gasmask stood obediently behind Lord Winter and held the bag in place. Lord Winter thrashed about and struggled, irritating Gasmask enough to quickly finish it by twisting Lord Winters head around.

Smiling once again, Lovell stood up and shook the hand of Lord Winter. "But I am glad you will be willing to help us once you are dead." Lovell nodded at Gasmak. "Use the body to gain entrance to his mansion, kill those you have to, and secure his fortune for me." Nodding silently, Gasmask turned and left, dragging the body behind him.

"AGAIN, I SAID NO, AND THAT IS FINAL! My patient Tiberius B. Gaius is under my care, and he needs time to rest! Now, will you please all go home!"

In unison, the large crowd outside Tiberius's house all began making their demands once again. Pulling his hair in frustration, the town doctor slammed his foot down, and Tiberius's house creaked, silencing the crowd.

"THAT IS FINAL! NOT ANOTHERWORD!"

The crowd moved to protest, but the doctor remained unmovable. Finally, they began to disperse, and the good doctor returned to the inside of the house.

"Has the town reached a consensus?" Doctor Lovell yelled out from the podium outside of the Town Hall, silencing the clamorous mob before him. The crowd answered back in discordant cries “Yes we have! Indeed we have! We’ve found him! We have him!” Lovell nodded a smile upon his face. “Thank you! Bring forth, Psychic 0!” With a yell the crowd pounded their fists into the air as from the center there was a commotion in the center as a young man was brought forth, his face obscured by a hood and his feet and hands bound together.

The mob soon burst into jeers as they brought the accused forth, and unto the feet of Lovell himself, who had come down to greet “Psychic 0”. Wrenching the hood free, a face covered in blood from a broken jaw and ribs, with deep penetrating eyes and dark hair stared back at Lovell, pity in his eyes. All Lovell could do was smile in a wide grin.

“How do you know this is the Psychic!” Lovell yelled to the crowd, and someone from the crowd yelled back. “We found him at the Library! Pouring over the books as fast as he could, faster than any real man could!” Another yelled. “And he spoke in a strange tongue, talking to someone no one could see!” Someone yelled out. “It was ghosts! He spoke to the dead!” And then the crowd hollered in unison! “He spoke to the dead!”

The young man held his head even with Lovell’s, the recognition of death still far from his eyes. “Young man, you have been accused of being a psychic of the highest magnitude – what is your defense.” In turn, the young man finally spoke, and his voice sent chills down the crowd’s spine, for it held an unearthly quality to it, and the mod that was once unruly was both quiet and tame.

“My name is Lucuis Johan Emmerich, I was born a man to a world without either mother or father or anyone else to care for me but myself in a world that hates me and wishes to see me dead. I have spent my life in pursuit of knowledge and truth, and I have found it. Do what you will with me, for my earthly body no longer has a use…and to those all too willing to kill me to satiate their fears by handing over one of the few people truly on your side…to the hells with you and your kind! I would have helped you, but you fall prey to this man’s fanaticism! Damn you all! I will see you all soon enough!”

Lovell snapped his fingers, and his ever present Mr. Black and Gasmask appeared. “Remove this stain from my sight…” Gasmask moved to take a hold of Lucius, but stopped short of grapping his arm. Even with the Gasmask on, you could tell that he had locked eyes with Lucius, and even with those reflective glass windows, even with that construct of plastic and rubber, you could see the fear welling up inside Gasmask.

Lovell turned purple. “I order you to kill him…do it now…I said now!” Gasmask refused, going so far to stumble backwards, and in a panic run as quickly as he could and as far as he could from Lucius. Lovell’s blood was obviously boiling as he turned to Mr. Black, but his voice retained its characteristic jovial calm. “You, you kill him!” But Mr. Black had already taken a few steps back, and returned in a light unsteady voice. “Forgive me doctor…but I do not think this a good idea and…”

“To the devil with you then!” Lovell finally screamed. Turning to the crowd, with a smile back on his face, he threw up his arms and yelled. “My gift! To you, for your hard work!” The crowd, which had been silence, burst into a roar and devolved into bedlam as they moved to grab Lucius. Lucius looked up at Lovell with a smile. “This does not end here…”. In the next moment, he was seized by the crowd, and ripped, beaten, and torn asunder until there was nothing left of him and the murderess ecstasy of the crowd had been spent.

During the night, Jack Yates liked to take a drive, usually by the cliffside which overlooked the bay. It gave him the most warm and pleasurable feeling, to stand facing out to sea, and feel the cold wind whip across his body, and watch and wait as the sun slowly rised and brought it's rays of warmth. Truely, noting could compare to the sounds of the waves crashing, to the melody of the gulls, to the silence being so far from the dirty hovels full of humans, known as cities, could bring to oneself.

Jack Yates loved it like nothing else in his life, well of course, except for one thing, but these morning drives helped clear his mind for the tussle and bussle of a busy day, and when working with the numbers that a taxman worked with, a clear mind was always a good thing.

However, as Jack Yates drove up the hill towards his spot, his headlights brought into view a man in a trenchcoat and his face and head obscured by both fedora and gasmask. Panicking, Jack swerved the car to the shoulder hard, nearly avioding the strange man in the road. However kind fate was to the strange man, it was not kind to Jack Yates - no sooner did he bring the car safely back onto the road, did all the tires on oneside blowout.

The Dark figure watched calmly as the car careened off the side of the cliff, and with a thunderous crash and roar, dash itself and explode upon the rocks. The debris and remains of Jack Yates and his beloved car were soon swalloed by the see, and as the sun rose, the dark gentlman with the gasmask and fedora slowly turned to a black, cold mist.

"I take it, it is done then?" Lovell said as he looked up from his glass of scotch. Gasmask simply nodded. "Good, so long as my hands are clean of the incident and no one knows we did it - it was for the good of the town in any case, I'm sure you agree."

Gasmask said nothing, only stood and patiently waited...

"How goes it Mr. Black? Have the townspeople come to a decision yet or not?" Lovell tapped upon a notepad impatiently with his fine tip pen, trying to think of what to write for a his speech next morning - one must always assure the masses that everything is going according to plan, otherwise they might panic.

Mr. Black shrugged as he looked out from his place on the balcony over looking the town square. "How do you think it goes? These fools bicker and fight or the most foolish of things. They fight over spelling, over pronunciation, over whether or not one of them is paying attention to their fool chatter." Throwing his arms out in despair, Mr, Black lamented. "Even now, instead of doing the task appointed to them, they bicker over whether your message is about 'Chaos', or 'Order'."

Doctor Lovell looked up and pulled his reading glasses down. "My message? How could it be confused for anything but what it is?!" Paying the doctor no mind, Mr. Black walked inside, and grabbed his coat, making ready to leave. "Where do you think your going?", Lovell inquired. Giving him a dour look, Mr. Black countered. "Whether it is chaos and confusion, be it law and order - I don't much care. I am going to go look for that perpetually late tally counter so this day can end!" Donning his fedora, Mr. Black stormed out of the room.

Sighing, Lovell went back to finishing his speech, and an hour later was about to finish when a knock came at his door. Opening the door, Lovell was shocked to find a young woman with piercing eyes before him. "Forgive me, but I thought the great Doctor Lovell would like to know that the tally counter has arrived, and the votes are finally being cast - will you be attending as usual?"

Doctor Lovell, recovering from his shock, made to ask how she had managed to get passed his guards, but decided it against it and simply took the woman's hand, who lead him out to the steps. There stood the crowd, waiting in anticipation for the execution.

Shaking himself out of his stupor, Lovell quickly checked around him for the woman, but could find no trace of her. Sensing that all eyes were on him, Lovell cleared his throat and turned to the mob. "Whom do you accuse?"

A few strong voices from the crowd yelled back. "Sigurd Sigurdsson! He does not help! Day in day out he has avoided coming to the meetings, all the while setting himself to other tasks! Why would he avoid searching for the psychics, if he isn't one himself! He is in league with them, he is in league with the psychics!" The crowd began to chant, and what started as a simple accusation by a few, had turned a torrent as other began piling on accusations, and suddenly Sigurd found himself being dragged by the crowd to the front of the steps, kneeling before Doctor Lovell.

Looking down at Sigurd but speaking to the tally counter, Lovell let passion enter his voice as it rose in volume. "How do the votes lie!" Responding quickly, the tally counter shouted back. "Sigurd is to be lynched!" With a snap of his fingers, Lovell's assistant Gasmask appeared, and the crowd shrank back and quieted.

"How do you plead Sigurd, son of Sigurd?" Looking back with a defiant face, Sigurd spoke with an air of finality. "I accept the verdict of this mockery of a trial...and go to a place the woman told me of, where I will be safe from you and may work to save the poor people of this town from your grip." Looking at Gasmask, Sigurd smiled. "Your time will be soon, silent one..."

Gasmask stepped forward, and grabbing Sigurd's head, jerked it sharply. A wet crack echoed off the steps of the town hall, as Sigurd fell lifelessly upon the stone steps, a smile upon his face. As the crowd dispersed, Lovell made his way back up to his study, where he found that his entire room had been covered in the phrase "I know" in scrawling handwriting, a thousand times over.

"It is indeed a long night, isn't it Doctor Lovell?" Lovell looked over at his assistant in the seat next to him, Mr. Black, who, in the several days and nights since coming to this sleepy town, had finally found something to be excited about. Lovell, who was reclining in his stately limousine smoking his pipe, puffed as he thought of the news that Mr. Black had delivered him.

"Yes, indeed - once the sun rises though, we will need to think of what we will do with the information that you received. We cannot sit on this matter like we have others...Mr. Black, I want you to tell our good friend Sam that I have need to be rid of someone." Mr. Black leaned over, intrigued. "Well, whom? They can't be as important as we think they are."

Lovell shook his head. "Nonetheless, they will be an impediment in the future. I can't have people who are not under my thumb or who will turn against me..." Mr. Black shrugged and sat back in his seat. "As you will have it...who is the unlucky chap?"

kelly green sat drinking her tea in a small cozy diner built in the 50's and just recently restored, and faithfully so. She had just gotten off of work, and had received a note asking her to politely join her for a cup of tea at this very diner. However, whomever had asked to see her had not shown up, and it wouldn't be long before she would have to be home.

Finally tired of waiting, kelly stood up to leave, and found her face to face with Gasmask, who's eyes, forever hidden behind the tinted windows of his rubber facade, seemed to bore through kelly. Trembling, kelly sat down, her very movement puppeteered by a power greater then that of anyone in that small diner. Gasmask joined her at the table, sitting down across from her, and for a long while the two stared at each other silently.

Finally, at some unknown provocation, Gasmask reached into his coat smoothly, and pulled out a small box. Opening it up, it began to play a beautifully haunting sound, that captivated everyone in the diner, and so entrancing was the music, so full of peace, that at once all but poor Gasmask were relived of their worldly concerns.

Straightening his coat, Gasmask stood and left the diner, closing the door behind him and making sure it was secured. Breathing in deeply of the night air, he turned to walk down to his car when he caught a glimpse of something unspeakably monstrous down the alleyway behind the diner. It glimmered in shadows, and twisted and melted as if composed of some demented wax, all in the shape of some horrendously unspeakable and impossible worm.

And then it was gone. In the morning, reports of it stirred in the few who had seen it out of the corner of their eye, and the dark gurgling, jesting laugh that followed. "So little boy, boy, what shall we learn tonite?". But most shocking of all that night, was those found in the diner, who had all suffocated with naught a struggle.

"Will the accused please step forward?" Lovell spoke to the crowd gathered at the town hall. The day had dragged on long as from start one person had stood out - Doctor Pen. A man by the name of Antonio had spoken up and accused him using solid evidence, pointing out the Doctors extreme change in behavior.

It wasn't long before it was leaked out that Antonio might be some under cover detective, but by then it was a foregone conclusion - votes piled in and Doctor Pen was handcuffed and taken before the town hall. Little discussion was had along the way, with Antonio in the lead.

Now, with Doctor Pen in front of Doctor Lovell, the crowd burst into a roar, asking for Doctor Pens head. However, with a smile shared between both men, Doctor Lovell waved them silent. "It is good to see you again, old friend and colleague. Still continued into your research in quantum theory? That subatomic particles have a collective consciousness?"

Doctor Pen laughed heartily, his old frame seemingly sturdy beyond it's years. "Oh indeed, and I found the evidence I was looking for years ago - I've even brought it with me." Holding out a fading manilla envelope, Doctor Pen offered it to Doctor Lovell. Taking it gently, Lovell tucked it under his arm. "I hope to continue your research then, Doctor Pen," Lovell said softly.

Doctor Pen tipped his hat, and spoke truimpantly, a hint of sadness in his voice. "I think, it is time for me to go then." Nodding to Gasmask, Lovell turned his back as his underling proceeded to grab Doctor Pen by the head, and twisted it off, the body immediatly falling into convulsions. Getting a feel of it's weight first, Gasmask gripped the head firmly and with a mighty effort, heaved it into the crowd.

The body, once it had finished twitching, dissolved into pink, icky fluid that evaporated into a swarm of bubbles, all flying up and up into the air until in turn each one popped with spine chilling malevolence.

As the crowd settles and disperses, Doctor Lovell, Gasmask, and Mr. Black all return to the interior of the town hall, the doors closed behind them. But outside, a young gentleman in a white suit and fedora flashes a grin, a gleem in his eyes. He is a striking, handsome man, and he walks briskly up the steps, swinging a cane in his hand in a large arc.

As he approaches the doors to the town hall, they are flung open, and walks briskly through the halls to Lovell's room, who is startled to have his doors open so swiftly to reveal the white coated man. Tipping his hat to Doctor Lovell, the white suited man quickly takes a seat, and props his legs up on an available ottoman.

His voice is akin to brightly colored silk, both eye and ear catching while being entrancing to hear. "Good Evening Dr. Lovell, I am Nyxius. I doubt you know of me but I believe that over the coming days, we shall.... come to know each other... much better. I have seen your accomplishments, and I do say, I am most impressed. I shall make sure my master knows of your deeds."

Before Doctor Lovell can say more, Gasmask enters in a panic, clearly disturbed and worried. Doctor Lovell looks at him irately, but when he returns to look for the mysterious young man, he find the chair empty, except for the mans cane, which upon it sits a wolves head...

Give me a little bit - this be up within the hour along with the night results

Deep inside a dark enclave out in the forest surrounding the town, a man prays too a warped idol, constructed of bubbling, infected flesh submerged partially in festering stagnate water, creating the illusion of a demented bubble machine.

The little light that illuminated this scene of blaspheme flickered uncontrollably, giving the worshiper before it a crazed if not a demonic appearance. "Yes...I shall avenge you my master...they will pay for their insolence, in their own blood. They will never be safe, for you shall guide me as your most faithful - through space, through time!"

Adastriea sighed as she flipped through the pages of her book, stopping occasionally to look over some of the anatomical drawings, mumbling derision on the quality of work. She sat in her warm comfy leather recliner, a lamp casting a soft glow across the room from on top of a night stand, smoke curling up from a lit cigar sitting in an ash tray.

The dead silence was broken by a loud rapping upon her door. Infuriated that her peace had been broken, Adastriea stormed through her house and wrenched open the door, and barked at the man upon her doorstep. "I am busy! Either state your business or begone!"

The gentleman outside her door smiled and pulled out something from behind his back...

Antonio tossed and turned in his bed, clearly in the thrall of a terrifying nightmare. He dreamed that someone was in danger, and they called out to him, begging him to save them. He woke in a panic, quickly entangling himself in his bed covers, and falling to the floor.

Quickly regaining his senses, he reached for his lamp, and then fumbled for his glasses. Finally managing to disentangling himself from his comfy trap of bedsheets, he checked the red blinking display of his alarm clock, which showed that the power had gone out almost 3 hours ago. Cursing under his breath, he quickly threw some clothes on, and went through his house, setting the clocks back to their correct time.

Walking to the kitchen, he flicked on the light, which then promptly blew out. Muttering more curses, he made his way over to his tool cupboard, and quickly obtained a new lightbulb. grabbing a chair from the dinning room, ATPG quickly changed out the faulty bulb for a new one. However, the light kicked back on in his hand, blinding him and singing his fingers, yelping, he fell from the chair.

Rubbing the back of his head, he looked about in trepid amazement. Written all over every surface, engarved directly into the wood, were the words "You better, hurry! Tick, Tock, Tick Tock, you know what I'm talkin bout!" Fear gripped him as it dawned on him...quickly gathering his wits and revolver, he headed out of his house to find the person from his dreams, his only clue, a blood stained note with an address...

Lovell sipped from his tonic as he sat at his desk, papers strewn over it detailing reports from his soldiers that maintained the quarantine. Most the reports seemed fine, and he quickly tossed them to the way side, and picked up a report from one of his agents from inside the town. What was on it had so engrossed Lovell, that he failed to take notice when Gasmask entered, and for a solid 10 minutes Gasmask stood their waiting in the silence, the only sound coming from Lovell's rustling of papers and the clinking of his glass.

Finally, Lovell looked up and was startled to see Gasmask before him. About to reprimand him for disturbing him, Lovell recalled that he had asked Gasmask to appear before him, as he had a special assignment that none of the agents were up to.

"I am glad you finally showed up - your ten minutes late you know. I want you to be more punctual from now on, it is not seemingly to have you not held to the same standards everyone else is." Pulling out a sheet of paper from the stacks towering on his desk, Lovell quickly scanned it before handing it over to Gasmask. "That is your target, and all the information we have on it. Please take care of it for me."

Gasmask said nothing, but turned and walked away. Before he left, Lovell called out to him, causing him to stop and listen. "I am depending on you, Sam...do not disappoint me." Silence followed as the words sank in, and the air became heavy with it. Finally, Gasmask exited Lovell's office, and the tension that had built up dissipated.

He crawled, on all fours, up the side of the building, his breath heavy and ripping with vulgar energy. sitting upon it's roof, perched as if a gargoyle, he watched through the skylight of the small home building, looking down at his victim from above, as they moved from the front door and into the living room. Saliva dripped heavily from his mouth, his teeth filed to sharp points. His eyes, red from disuse and mistreatment, watched with insane fervor at the vulnerability of his chosen victim...now, only to leap...and give praise to his god proper...

Antonio huffed and puffed as he made his way down the street, finally sighting the address he was looking for, ans spying a man in a trenchcoat enter it, a shifty look upon his countenance, illuminated by light from within. Panicking, Antonio galvanized himself and gave a burst of energy towards the building, praying that hopefully he was in time...

In a dark corner, a black mist began forming. It curled malignantly, grasping at nothing, as if trying to strangle it. It grew and grew, and as it did, it took shape, and became hard. Colors rippled across the forming surfaces, as organs grew and flesh exploded from nothing and into something. Soon, a whole body was formed, and upon it clothes weaved themselves, and, only for a moment, a face could be seen, all humanity long washed from it's surface.

Gasmask shook himself, and flexed his hands. Looking about his surroundings, he strode from that dark corner in an abandoned room purposefully, and into the light of a hallway...

Throwing open the door, Antonio barged into the dimly lit house, looking about, his gun at the ready. Scanning about with determination, he began to move cautiously about, keeping his senses and wits about him. Suddenly, a crash sounded from an adjacent room, and was followed by an inhuman scream. Rushing to the room, ATPG kicked the doors open, and fell on his rear in terrified shock.

"Sorry miss, but we are gunna have to move you out for now and into a safer location. By orders of Doctor Lovell, we are to search this premises for the taint of psychics." The man finished pulling out a clipboard with names.

Adastriea's face turned a bright red, clearly ready to object, but the man's eyes quickly averted any protestations. There was something about them that was so hypnotizing...entrancing...dominating, and his smile was irrefutably irresistible. Stamping back into her house in frustration at being so easily turned, Adastriea collected that which she would need for the night, and then proceeded to let the gentleman escort her to the car.

Signaling to his unwilling partner, Winston Hughes, who had been asked to stand in for Adastriea at her apartment until proper authorities could arrive, the gentleman got in the drivers seat, as Winston got out of it, and looking in the rearview mirror at Adastriea, he smiled. "Ready miss?"

Adastriea responded off-handedly in the affirmative, and with his cane at his side, the gentleman pressed on the gas and they disappeared into the night, leaving poor Winston behind, a simple townsperon thrust into a ridiculous situation, to watch over her house.

Quickly entering inside, Winston made for the study, finding a half smoked cigar and a full bottle of whiskey. Smiling smugly to himself, he popped open the whiskey and started to pour himself a glass, when from above the skylight shattered and a mass of fury and limbs descended upon him...

Antonio watched as before him a being that resembled something human ripped and tore at Winston Hughes body, who was whimpering from pain far to much for his brain to stand. He was dumbfounded, for this could not be right...he was not here for Winston, but for Winston he was here, this was true. His mind fizzled at the problem, and his conscious sank into the background as instincts took over. Fumbling with his gun, Antonio brought it to bear and aimed at the "thing" but was interrupted by the entrance of Gasmask behind him.

Whirling on the new intruder, Antonio pulled the trigger, and a round hit Gasmask square in the chest. Grunting, Gasmask grabbed the babbling Antonio by the throat, he crushed his neck in the palm of his hand and tossed Antonio's twitching body to the wayside, his attention centering on the creature which had finished with Winston. Turning around and facing Gasmask, it sensed it could not win, and dashed at an open window, busting through and disappearing into the murky darkness of the night.

Looking down at Winston's flayed body, his flesh pulled apart and his internals pulled apart to form 3 letters, Gasmask decided that he had nothing more to do here, and quickly dissipated back into the dark mist from whence he came.

As the light faded from both Antonio's and Winston's eyes, a gentleman in a white fedora and suit appeared, brandishing a cane. His eyes gleamed with delightful malevolence, and underneath the suit of the dashing man rippled a thousand unnamed, crawling horrors. He merely tipped his hat, and smiled...

Far away from the madness of the night, Diamanto was getting ready to go to bed, and was finishing up by brushing his teeth. Halfway through, he stopped to check his handiwork, when his reflection suddenly twitched. Taken aback, Diamanto peered inquisitively at his likeness. After a minute of nothing happening, he shrugged and relegated it to nothing more then his eyes playing tricks on him.

As soon as he went back to brushing his teeth, his reflection dropped it's tooth brush and slammed it's hands upon the glass mirror, which promptly shook as if from impact. Diamanto fell and crawled backwards as he watched his reflection open it's mouth in a scream, the foaming toothpaste bubbles in it's mouth bubbling over in a froth. As the bubbles grew, each one began to take on a face, and crimson blood began to ink it's way across the surface of the monstrous blobs.

Like a demented fire, flesh began to consume the froth, turning bubble into blister, and the faces into a screaming chorus, all held within the ever expanding razor sharp toothy maw of the most hideous reflection. Diamanto screamed like a child and tried to escape by pressing himself through his bathroom wall, but to no avail, and as he pushed to escape, the monster in the mirror pushed it's way through the mirror, which warped with such terrifying sound.

Closing his eyes, Diamanto screamed until his throat became dry, and only an hour afterwards did he dare look about to see that all was back to as it had been, and his reflection was as cowardly as he was. He had escaped the nightmare...but for how long?

A little music to suit the mood
- Kisses and cuddles, Nyxius

"You have been accused of conspiracy to overthrow and kill Doctor Lovell, and the leaders of this town, with psychics, monsters, the dead, and whatever dark master you pray to. How do you plead?"

Nick Koeman grimmaced as Doctor Lovell rolled up the parchment he had been reading from. "I plead not guilty! I demand a trial by my peers! This is what should have been done when you started these investigations!"

Lovell raised an eyebrow at Mr. Koeman. "All this time - I had given you everything you asked for Mr. Koeman, even the luxury and benefits that those closest to me enjoy, and now here you are, spitting it back in my face? After all I have done for you, you go and conspire with those dark forces?! How dare you even demand a trial!"

Lovell snapped his fingers, and Gasmask stepped forward, and unsheathing an ornate shortsword, handed it to Doctor Lovell. "I, myself shall execute you, Mr. Koeman, as an example to others who would be betray me and the good people of this town."

Mr. Koemans eyes went wide with surprise as several townies he trusted stepped up and held him down. Turning to each with a look of despair, he pleaded, "You - I sold you food from my store for pennies when I knew your family was in dire need of money. You! I helped you keep your livestock alive when the storm from 87 rolled in! And you...I helped get better nutrition for our schools, I helped prevent a disease from spreading through the town after tainted meat was found! Why are you doing this!? You know me, and know I am innocent!"

Lovell smacked Nick across the face. "Silence! Your betrayal of these people has gone long enough, and shall be avenged!" As Lovell pulled back for a swing, Nick snapped, and with a roar threw off those holding him down and charged Lovell, quickly wrestling the shortsword away from him. Falling to the ground, the wind knocked out of him, Lovell tried to summon Gasmask, but Nick was too fast.

He quickly turned the blade on those trying to restrain him again, and in a fusion of both Samurai and Beef Butcher, artfully cleaved his opponents apart, killing several innocents before managing to escape their clutches as he mad a mad dash towards Lovell's mansion. Even when Gasmask tried to intercede, Nick simply cleaved his arm off and pushed him out of the way, a look of determination and fanaticism in his eyes.

Breaking past them all, he dashed into the doors, while Gasmask busied himself with reattaching his severed limb and following at a brisk pace. The crowd however was to stunned and trying to help the dying to give chase, and Mr. Black simply watched with interest. Finally after a few minutes, Nick Koeman appeared on the rooftop balcony, clearly in a panic. As the crowd watched with baited breath, expecting Gasmask to appear at any moment.

However, from the shadows appeared a man in a white suit and fedora, wielding his cane and malevolent smile. Kicking Koeman to the ground effortlessly, snatching the shortsword away and placing his foot on the hapless mans back, Nyxius addressed the crowd with his usual charismatic flair. "Denizens of this fair town, I come to you, as..." Koeman struggled to get up and away, but with a grunt Nyxius forced him back to the ground.

"...a simple man. I can bring you great happiness, or great sorrow. Do not think that I came to bring..." Nyxius again forced Koeman to the ground, clearly irriated. Looking down at the poor butcher, Nyxius scolded him. "Do you mind? I am busy and it would help me greatly if you kept still!"

"...peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to...". Nick Koeman screamed out for help, and this time was shoved hard to the ground by Nyxius, who smacked him with the sword. "Please, good sir! I am in the middle of speaking, do not interrupt me, it is rude!" Sighing to himself, Nyxuis turned back to the crowd."...set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother."

Finally done with what he had to say, Nyxius removed his foot from Koeman and stood him up, facing the crowd, and asked the doomed man one last question. "Vertical or Horizontal...yes, no? Oh, it doesn't matter."

Witha flick of his wrist, Nyxuis sliced open Koeman, and pushing on his back, spilled forth most of the late Nick Koeman out upon the streets. Letting the body plummet to the ground, Nyxius took his cane, and tipping his hat, bowed deeply to the crowd, and turned and left. A minute later, he appeared at the front doors and wound his way past Lovell, Mr. Black, and the crowd, a cheerfully evil smile on his face, down through the city streets and vanished some few blocks later.

Lovell sat in stunned silence, having just finished assigning duties to his guards for the night, and began to make ready to take a nice long hot bath when his bathroom door burst open, and in Lovell's bathrobe, Nyxius strode out, brushing his teeth with Lovell's toothbrush and toothpaste. Brushing past the doctor and muttering to himself, or some things unseen about him, he took a seat upon Lovell's bed, and using Lovell's nail filer, finally took notice of the stunned man.

"Oh, you there, yes, I have been meaning to talk to you since from earlier today. What do you know about this lady, Adastreia, along with the man Diamonto? I have heard very disconcerting news through the grapevine, and I would be very sad if I was to learn that you had no information for me."

Lovell still stood in awe as Nyxius went over to the walk-in closet and pulled out one of Lovell's fine suits, placing it against his body to see if it would fit. Disappointed, Nxyius walked further into the closet, and Lovell dumbly followed. However, when lovell Looked inside, Nxyius had vanished. Suddenly, from within the closet, Nyxius's silky commanding voice sounded.

"You know how to contact me."

And with a soul crushing, manic laugh, Lovell was pushed by an invisible force out of his closet, and the doors slammed shut.

The young man nodded and passed the money over quickly, looking about him with disinterest. When the cashier moved to give him his change back, the young man waved him off. "Keep it, you'll need it for your groceries later - you'll be short 2 bucks and the only line open will be Maisey's, and you know how you get along with her."

Before the cashier could protest in confusion, the young man had already grabbed his paper-bag full of groceries and was out and in the streets, and in a moment disappeared into the frosty night.

Beskar was a smart man, you could give him that. In the days after his illness, he had grown to become somewhat of a lead figure in the town's "hunt" for the psychics. It was a mask however - he was far more interested in the survival of the town, and had gone to great lengths to further his own goals. His loyalty to Lovell's cause however, had earned him some trust and leverage.

That trust and leverage transformed into protection when Lovell sent his men to get Beskar from his place of work - the bus station - and send him to sleep off the night at an old apartment building. Beskar himself wasn't greatly enthused by this notion, but under Lovell's insistence, and Beskar's concern for living another day and maintaining his cover, he agreed.

The young man sat out in the cold frigid air not truly wanting to go inside with all the people about. Snow fell in droves, making it difficult to see and quickly covering the world in white. "Damned bus better hurry up...I'm not walking in this back to the apartment." Rubbing his hands together to keep warm, the young man leaned back and began to meditate to take his mind off the cold when the doors to the bus station swung open, and several men came out, with Doctor Lovell and Tiberius Beskar in tow.

Seeing the poor young man out in the cold, and thinking of an ingenious idea, Lovell asked for Beskar's coat, who quickly handed it over. Watching the men as they passed, the youth was surprised when Lovell approached him, and suddenly tense. Lovell smiled warmly. "Here young man, you'll catch a chill in such a thin coat - take this, keep yourself warm for the night."

Caught off guard by the generosity, the youth took the coat and wrapped it around himself, and mumbled a "thank you" to Lovell, who had long since moved away and into the white night. The youth pondered why he hadn't seen that coming - normally he'd be prepared for such things...

He giggled madly as he watched Beskar from afar, his makeshift blade twirling in his hands. "Yet another sinner to kill!" The cultist scratched himself, his skin having started to develop a rash, and continued to make his way towards his target with methodical determination, crossing the street even as cars passed around him. His vision narrowed, his mind became dull, and all he could hear was the roar of his masters commands...or the fluid in his ears.

From the darkness, a figure charged, kicking up a flurry of snow as it came. The youth did not immediately recognize his attacker as anything more then a flurry of wind, but when his senses activated, the assailant was already upon him. Tossing the groceries into the air and dropping to the floor, the attacker went flying over the youth, who caught the cultist and using his momentum, sent him colliding with the wall behind him.

Reaching out to quickly catch the groceries, the youth immediately brought up his leg as the cultist stood up and pinned him to the wall by his neck. The Cultist struggled violently as the youth put the groceries in a safe spot, but found himself unable to break away. But just as the youth finished placing the groceries down, a nearby snow bank reared up and hit him across the length of his chest, sending the youth sprawling and releasing the cultist.

Flipping up onto his two feet gracefully, the youth prepared to defend himself, suddenly realizing why he hadn't seen Lovell offering him the coat. "Two attackers in the same night...what luck, " the youth grunted as the cultist came at him again, only to have his arm twisted, his feet kicked out from underneath him, and then knocked to the ground. Screaming in frustration, the cultist continued to thrash at the youth, who easily sidestepped his attacks.

The snow bank, sensing an opportunity with the youth distraction at the cultists frenzied assault, attacked from behind, but the youth fluidly ducked, causing the snow bank to collide with the cultist. Stepping back as his two attackers tried separate themselves form each other, an old lady exited from the bus station, and the youth was startled by her intrusion. Running over to insure she wouldn't be hurt, the youth stopped short as the old lady lashed out, a sharp hissing coming from her mouth which opened up to show many more mouths and faces forming from deep with her throat.

She suddenly threw herself at the youth, who was able to escape from her attack by sacrificing the coat that Lovell had given him. Quickly backpedaling, the youth dodged yet another desperate attack by both the snow bank and cultist, grabbed his groceries, and ran off into the night, while his attackers fought over the coat...

"I said entertain me - my books can only hold my interest for so long. Well go on! Say something you rubber faced freak."

Gasmask stared at Adastriea, his body caught and held fast by several ghosts from the afterlife. He had expected this to be a simple matter - the dead becoming involved had caught him by surprise, and now, much to his chagrin, he was now captive to this woman.

Adastriea lounged back in her chair, getting comfortable. She smiled at Gasmask, her lips curling in a devilish, tempting manner. "You know you'll never be my equal. Your a messenger of death - you hold no real mastery of it. You cause it...but you never control it."

Again, Gasmask refused to take the bait, and Adastriea seemed to be growing impatient by the minute. Gasmask chuckled at the thought, and he suddenly regretted doing so. Adastriea's eyes narrowed. "So you can speak - maybe I'll just have to find another way to force conversation out of you...hmmm." Adastriea reached over and grabbed a bottle of brandy and began to drink from it.

Gasmask started to grow concerned from the looks he was receiving from Adastriea, who seemed to be sizing him up, and also mildly drunk. As she approached him, Gasmask struggled to get away as Adastriea reach through the impassive ghosts and placed her hand on his mask. "And what do we look like underneath..."

Finally realizing he was risking to much being patient, Gasmask dispersed into black mist, leaving Adastriea holding Gasmask's mask, which she studied for a bit as she continued to drink most of the bottle of brandy. Making her way back to her chair and plopping herself down, she smiled smugly to herself. "I'll have you yet, oh yes I will...and I'll be keeping you for a long time Mr.shyguy, all to myself, and your cute little friend too..."

The Ghosts remained present for the night, doing their best to ignore Adastriea's triumphant giggles and her drunk antics.


This night has remained bloodless - time will tell if this is a good thing for the town...

"I'll call it"

A sigh collapses across the card table as the men opposite of Renard Black seem to become even more disgruntled, if that were possible. "Why do you always call it on diamonds? I mean, c'mon man!" both cry out. Renard simply shrugs, obviously enjoying the moment. "Your overreacting, just play the cards as they are dealt."

"Yea, we've been hearing that all night long - and all night long you've been taking our money left and right. If I didn't know better..." Renard immediately looked up, and nocked his cigar into the corner of his mouth. His eyes narrowed as he replied, "And if you did know better? Are you accusing me of cheating? I find that notion offensive..."

One of the other players stepped in, adding his voice to the pile, "Well, if your not cheating, your the damnedest lucky man I've ever known. You haven't lost a hand that you haven't thrown." Renard sensed all eyes were on him, and he knew he was in tight pinch. Silence pervaded the room as the others around the card table got up, and all Renard could do was drink from his glass of bourbon.

"Cheers - to warm feelings and heartfelt friendships."

"Oh, for goodness sake, it was self defense! Why am I in here, when they are out there!?", Renard cried from behind his prison cells bars. He rubbed his sore shoulder, and looked about with his one good eye at his surroundings, shuddering and immediately deciding death would be preferable.

Licking his fingers clean of his ham sandwich, the deputy officer leaned back in his plush leather chair, and laughed. "Because we also had a report from a hooker down on 7th avenue that she has attended to your 'needs' several times over the past few nights. And that we got evidence to support those gentleman's claims that you were cheating in that fine gambling establishment."

Renard looked on with incredulity. "You are going to believe a overdressed two-bit whore who just wanted to get out of prison for a day? What kind of town is this?!" The deputy looked over at Renard with complete disinterest and remiss, apparently more concerned with whatever was printed upon his year old magazine.

Sighing to himself, Renard decided he might as well try it. Clearing his throat, Renard spoke in a soothing, hypnotic tone. "Good sir, would you please kindly hand me the keys to my cell? I would pay you most handsomely, and help you with your issues between you and your boss, as you seem to be a swell fellow who cares about the common guy, like me."

Normally, the deputy would have started laughing at such a ridiculous plea, but instead his eyes glazed over and he could only mumble to himself as his body started to get up and get the keys. Renard sighed, rubbing his hands together in anticipation as the deputy stumbled his way over to Renard. The deputy was within five feet, Renard's arm outstretched grasping for the keys, when the sheriff entered.

A moment of awkward silence followed as the deputy, his eyes sightless and his face numb and drooling, looked at the sheriff, and then Renard's grip was broken, the deputies fears at losing his job overcoming Renard's hold. The deputy shook his head, his mind coming back, and an accusatory look coming over his face. "You, your one of the psychics! Sheriff, he took over my mind, honest! I couldn't do but naught what he told me to!"

The sheriff nodded. "I saw, looks like we got us a nice catch here. Lovell will be happy, I know that." All Renard could do was despair, and made his despair rather vocal by cursing every god from every pantheon he had knowledge of.

"They say they have a psychic? Wonderful news, Sam, please, go with my men and claim him." Lovell sat back and sipped ona bit of gin before turning back to attend to his prepared lecture for the crowd that day, modifying some lines to have a more fatherly and uplifting tone, while still stressing the need to "Give me what I want, and I'll go away" parts.

Gasmask simply nodded, his mask haven been pilfered from him the night earlier, but even now his face was hard to discern - it was as if sunlight itself avoided his features, casting him in shadow now. He motioned to two guards nearby with a wave of his palm, and they followed, robotically, obediently.

Just as Gasmask exited, Lovell called out one last command. "Oh, and tell the sleeper to wake. He's spent far to long in bed and if he stays in it any longer he will find himself over tired." Gasmask made no sign that he had heard or acknowledged, except for having stopped until Lovell had finished, and then resume walking.

Renard had been in sticky situations beforehand, stickier ones then this. Yet, somehow, he just couldn't see himself getting away from a huge mob of armed villagers who had bound and gagged him, while they were marching and chanting on their way to Lovell's mansion. "Standard fare I suppose - could be worse, I could be stuck like a pig for a roast," thought Renard.

Renard looked about him, and gave up for the hundredth time when he realized he was in the mass of the mob,m and resigned himself to simply listening."This chanting sure is annoying though - not one of them could carry a tune if it was the skin on their back. Tone deaf imbeciles." He soon decided that listening as he was now was not good for his health, and tried with commendable effort to tune it out.

After an undefined time, he was rudely awoken when his face contacted with the steps of Lovell's mansion. Looking up, Renard stared into the concerned eyes of Lovell. For a moment they held each others gaze, until Lovell broke it to look up and ask the crowd.

"Who is this? Who have you brought me?"

"A psychic! One who can hold sway over a mans mind!", the crowd chanted back.

Lovell looked down at Renard, and his face turned to disgust, and Renard hung his head, understanding what was to follow. Lovell raised his arms to silence the crowd, and as he did so, a man in a bowler hat and brown overcoat came limping forward, struggling heavy on his cane. The crowd gave him a wide berth as he tumbled forward towards Lovell. However, just before he hit the ground, the man in the overcoat did a quick somersault, shedding his disguise and standing fully erect in his white fedora and suit, his cane twirling in his hand in a display of show.

Leaning close into Lovell, he pulled out a pair of reading glasses from inside his coat, tipped his hat up, and pulled a piece of paper from nowhere, from which he began to read.

"Have you missed me? I have some advice for you:

Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we're in for nasty weather."

He took a quick bow, both to Lovell and the crowd, who responded by clapping enthusiastically. Cries, gasps, and screams ran through the crowd as the source of the applause was revealed - amongst those living, where those long dead, their bodies in various states of decay, all frsh from having drug themselves up from their graves.

Tipping his hat to Lovell, Nyxius snapped his fingers, and the ghouls began to form up, as if to attack, hunger in their faces. "If you do not mind, I will be taking this man for my own collection. I am sure you won't disagree." Nyxius laughed a evilly, and immediately, the undead began to breakout into song and dance, with Nyxius taking lead.

The crowd, startled, screamed and panicked, scattering as Nyxius lifted Renard, now screaming and panicking himself desperately trying to cry for help, effortlessly and tossed him to the ghouls, who lifted him up in the air, and to the beat of their tune, carted him off, Nyxius himself being lifted up as if a King, waving his hat jovially at the terrified citizens as they marched their way to the cemetery.

Lovell and Gasmask simply stood in shock, totally in awe of the performance, and in the suddenness of it. Lovell turned to go back in side as Gasmask continued to watch, muttering about needing something stronger to drink.

After the the lynch debacle, the town soon realized that the owner of their largest grocery store had disappeared. The mystery as to where he had disappeared to was soon revealed - the cemetery - for his screams as he was devoured alive were quite distinct.

Beware the Erinyes. Beware for whom Tisiphone answers.

Cynthia sighed as she leafed through her book. Words, all words, yet she had to do this because it would make ends meat, and ever since Lynn Strange had taken over kelly green's duties at the library. The man was short handed, and Cynthia, a wanderer by nature, needed both a place to stay, and food to eat - Lynn Strange was desperate, and was willing to offer her that in exchange for her working at the library.

"Done yet Cynthia?", Lynn inquired as he walked passed, rolling a cart chock full of disorganized books. Cynthia looked over with tired eyes and simply shook her head no, and returned to her work. Lynn shrugged and began to move on but stopped in wonder as the books on the cart began to wobble and shake about. Suddenly they began to throw themselves at Lynn, who was forced to the ground, yelping in pain.

Cynthia was on her feet to get to Lynn, but was blocked by falling debris from the roof. Looking up, she spotted a huge red skinned creature, with pincers for arms and a large circular mouth, a great big razor sharp tongue lashing out, coated in blood. It lept from the hole it had made down to the ground, making a sweeping motion with one of it's claws towards Cynthia, who flipped out of the way just in time.

Roaring in frustration, it charged, overturning everything in it's path. Quickly rolling to the side to avoid it, the beast crashed through several rows of bookshelves and throwing up huge piles of debris. taking the opportunity, Cynthia raced over to Lynn and grabbed him, pulling him away from the possessed books which had formed into a fist of sorts and had been pounding on the poor librarian.

Throwing open the door to the library, Cynthia pulled both of them to the ground as a many mouthed creature, recognizably human, threw itself at them as soon as the door had swung open. Quickly crawling back away from it as it heaved itself after them, all it's mouths drooling a terrible acid which dissolved everything it touched, gaped open and shut, seeking out Cynthia. Leading it on a little bit more, the two managed to get it away from the door, which both dashed out of, not looking back until they were a mile away.

Elijah Quigley was a simple man. Yes, he was confused about the events that had occurred as of late, and true, he had mad some weird accusations in some peoples eyes - truly, if one talked to much, it meant that one wasn't searching for those psychics, and thus wasn't listening to the good Doctor Lovell, who was simply just trying to save them after all.

Tonight, Elijah decided to go out for a drive, and seating himself comfortably, turned on his car. He put it in gear and drove a couple blocks before his radio suddenly kicked on, and began playing "Chariots of Fire". Elijah looked down at his radio suspiciously.

From the rooftop of a nearby building, the cultist raised his arms in praise. "A sacrifice, befitting you my master, most high! I send a gift of ancient Prometheus' fire on wings!" With that, he clicked the button on the remote in his hand, which caused poor Elijah's car to explode and burst into a thunderous blaze, launching it slightly up into the air before crashing down in finality.

Quinn chuckled as he looked at the note, written in Yvonne's beautiful handwriting. The way it curved, the way she wrote...it just made Quinn's heart melt. He read it first to himself, and then aloud.

"Let us meet in the park, at our spot closest to our hearts, where the stars shine most beautifully upon us during the midnight hours."

Quinn folded the note up gently, his curiosity piqued by this sudden turn of events. But he smiled, knowing whatever was planned would be most wonderful.

Yvonne sat, cross legged, the moonlight streaming upon her and illuminating her pale, elven face and dark hair. Her hands worked back and forth as she knitted with precision befitting of someone who had mastered their art, a smile most glowing upon her face as she worked her needles. She coln't wait to see Quinn, and tell him of the news.

A sudden uneasy feeling pervades Yvonne as a shadow casts itself over the moonlight, and she ceased knitting. The air grew cold, and Yvonne called out, "Quinn?", her voice slightly unsteady. When no answer came, she closed her eyes, and understood what was to come. "You have come for me finally, I see."

Gasmask, without his iconic mask, his face a mist of shadows concealing human features, stood next to her, looking down upon Yvonne almost pityingly. Speaking for the first time, in a dual angelic voice, Gasmask responded. "Yes, I have come to collect - you have cheated death long enough, Yvonne Lucia Clark."

Running into the park excited, Quinn dahsed into the grove of trees which led to a small, perfectly circular clearing. However, confusion ensnared his mind as he did not see Yvonne before him, but Jesse Zhang, who sprang to life and rushed the stunned Quinn. "You, you are here! He said, he told me you could release me! Oh please tell me it is true!" Jesse continued to hang onto Quinn, until the latter snapped out of his stupor and grabbed Jesse by the shoulders and shook him.

"WHERE IS SHE! WHO SENT YOU! ANSWER ME!" Jesse however was long gone, his eyes full of hopeful fervor. "Oh you will kill me! KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL MEEEEE!" Quinn shrugged the man of of him, throwing him to the ground. Backing up, Quinn spun on his heels and ran back to the apartment as fast as he could, leaving Jesse to wail and lament, begging for his death.

"If you do this, there is no turning back." Yvonne remained calm, her hand folded, looking out the window at the angelic full moon casting it's rays throughout the apartment, revealing both Yvonne's face and Gasmasks, who had the appearance of a young woman, but yet male, his feature smooth and streamlined, his hair a wispy platinum.

"I fully understand the consequences of my actions. This must be done, the cycle must complete - you know this is true."

Yvonne shook her head. "It does not have to be this way, I have seen an alternate path...one that will end all bloodshed, all chaos. The path I follow will bring humanity into a new era - you would quash that, in some vain hope of maintain the failing order we have now, Samael?"

Sam turned his back toward Yvonne. "I do what I must, to follow the path I see. Not everyone can follow you Yvonne, you know this, you know that what you seek will only be for a few..."

Yvonne stood, spinning on her heels, and pulled Sam around, and proceeded to backhand him sharply. "That, is a LIE. I would have never expected Lovell's message to seat itself so deeply in your heart Samael..."

Looking at Yvonne with pity, he replied calmly, "Has your peace been said?". Yvonne straightened, steely determination in her eyes. "Know that when you take me, you are taking more then one life, and know that by killing me, you seal your own fate..."

"It will be painless, and gentle, I promise you that.", was all Sam replied.

Quinn threw the door open, slamming it into the wall and knocking dust loose that began to float about and catch the rays of the moon. "Yvonne? Yvonne!? Oh god, Yvonne!!" Panic overcame him as he ducked into the living room, and found her body, still beautiful, curled up as if only in sleep, her eyes closed and her hair draped over her face in a cascade.

Picking her up and holding her close, Quinn began to sob and cry out Yvonne's name, rocking back and forth. He begged for her to say his name, to whisper to him. He could be heard crying and sobbing, holding her tight to himself, his emotions tearing at him, tears streaming down his face.

All night he held on to her, refusing to let go, his eyes never dry, his heart pierced and the pain his chest unbearable, his throat unable to utter anything but lamentation. And in a final cry to the gods, a man at his knees begging for the only thing in his life that he loved to be brought back to him, yelling for a deal, for anything, to pay any price, to have her back, to her her sweet voice, to feel her hands upon him, to feel her warmth and love once more...it was all for naught, and he cursed the gods, and he cried in vain, he cried in vain hope.

And when Nyxius came to sit by Quinn's side, instead of taunting him, he too sat down, and bowed his head, his hat upon his chest. Finally getting up solemnly, he placed his cane at the side of the living room couch. "I can help you...and I mean to be honest when I say that. If you want Yvonne back, speak to me upon the morrow." And with that, Nyxius vanished.




Renata, aka Yvonne Lucia Clark aka Psychic Zero, has been killed, along with Thermal Mercury, aka Elijah Quigley.

"Doctor Lovell came to our town, and our homes, and invaded our lives 6 days ago! He has scoured the very people, killing at whim! He has no conscious, nor feelings for those lives he shatters!"

The crowd before the youthful man roared in approval. After the death of psychic zero, opposition had started to grow towards Lovell's tyrannical rule. At first, it had only been grumblings, yet at the end of the day, this one man had galvanized them to do the unthinkable - riot, rebel, overthrow the man who sought dominion over them.

" Will we tolerate this any longer! Will we, the good people of this small town, humble in our lives but proud in our hearts, in our work, and in our independence, let this monster, who would kill a young woman who was with child, and then celebrate it as his most glorious achievement? THIS IS THE MAN YOU WISH TO RULE YOU? This murder and defiler of what we hold closest to our hearts? This shameful beast, who revels in overthrowing peaceful governments, who galvanizes the once placid people into murdering their own friends and family based on his views?!"

Aagain, the crowd roared in agreement, vengeance in their eyes.

"How many of us must fall victim before we realize he turns us all into monsters, just like him! Use his dark, twisted malformed excuse for a heart to break the good will and sense of the people. How he preaches peace and restoration, when it his men, under his employ, who slaughter thousands, burns cities, and defile our greatest achievements!"

"I say no more! I SAY NO MORE! It shall end here, with us! We will take up arms, we will show this Lovell that he is not master, he is not the puppeteer, he is not a going to be our butcher any longer!"

The crowd roared with defiance and triumph, lighting torches and cocktails, arming their guns, waving whatever they found in their homes that might do harm to the demon of a man that is Lovell.

Throwing his arm out sharply to point towards Lovell's mansion, the youth cried out. "We march, as one, and as one we take back what is ours! Our lives, our hope, our freedom, and our escape from this demented mans madness! ONWARDS!!!!!"

Samael stood watching the crowd grow, the gathering darkness allowing the torches they carried to light them up like a sea of fire. Samael chuckled at the irony of the situation - a man that had set out to redeem the world and bring it to heaven, had instead devolved it into chaos and poured Hell upon it, and now, the river Styx had come to claim.

Lovell, however, was completely oblivious to this fact, or had far to much trust in his security forces - Samael believed it was the latter, since Lovell displayed a cunning paranoia. Lovell's glass tinkled as he set about filling it yet again - poor fool was utterly drunk, by no means an easy feat for himself to do - as he celebrated his victory and his consolidation of power.

"You should leave now."

Lovell looked over at Samael, a mock expression of curiosity and smugness on his face. "Oh, but why? This town will make a good spot to start, and it isn't entirely cleansed yet." Lovell leaned back and began to sing "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts", and this irritated Samael highly.

So much so that Samael lifted Lovell from his seat by his neck collar and proceed to look deep into his eyes. "You, will, leave, NOW, Doctor Lovell. You still have much work to do, but you will not see it if you stay here - is this understood?! Over 1000 angry, tired humans are making their way to your blood mansion, and they will kill all they find and raze it to the ground."

"Is this UNDERSTOOD?"

Lovell, completely in shock now, simply nodded. Samael released him, and brushed the old man off, and handed him his bottle of brandy. "Go, now, take those you trust the most with you. I will stall - make your way to the Town Hall, which is already fortified with military equipment that I had the forethought to procure."

Lovell straightened his overcoat, and reached out to shake Sam's hand, who promptly shook it back. Smiling to Lovell, Samael, bowed deeply and evaporated into mist, his last words, "Death is but another phase."

Quinn stared into the eyes of Samael, both illuminated by the blazing fires of the mob surrounding them at the steps of Lovell's mansion. Samael smiled peacefully at Quinn, which only enraged the distraught youth more.

"This is what you fall to? Invading the minds of a thousand people and turning their own fears and hates towards your purpose?"

Quinn spat back. "No, their purpose! Your a heartless reaver, what would you know? I'll I've done is broken that which held them back, I gave them purpose and courage to do what was really seated in their hearts and minds. But, you'd rather label me a monster, an equal to the very man you protect."

Samael shrugged. "Do as you wish, I only ask you spare me your preaching and be done with what you have set out to do. Time is precious to you after all, mortal."

Quinn's fists balled up. "As you will..." A silent image, a trigger was sent to all those around, freeing them of restraint, and it was in that moment that they stormed the mansion, and killed all that stood before them. And of Samael, they ravaged him, tore him limb from limb, and he let them, knowing resistance was futile, and pointless in the grand scheme of things.

And after the town had finished their orgy of destruction, after Lovell had made his way safe and sound to the Fortressified Town Hall, did Nyxius himself appear, from within the flames. Walking calmly amongst them, a keen eye upon all, and tut tuting as he went.

"Dear me, little Quinny, you do not know how to throw a party, do you? Where is the song, and the dance?! Where is the life?" At this point, all eyes were upon this most mysterious man, and Quinn's especially. "You...who are you?", Quinn questioned.

Nyxius wagged his finger at Quinn. "Oh no, where would be the fun in me telling you that? No, lets play a game instead - you know what a Conga Line is, right? Oh, it won't matter. See, this game is the game of one upsmanship - you caused an entire town to go mad and kill a hundred or so others, now, we get to DANCE!"

Cackling with glee as the music started up, the townspeople were suddenly compelled to follow the rhythm of the beat, and even while trying to fight it, Quinn himself found that his body, however rigidly was falling step, lock, and in line.

Danced and sang the entire town did, amongst the destroyed terrain, amongst the screams of the dying, a feverish, mad joy instilled in them all, their minds overcome and their eyes filling to the brime of it, as they cackled to, lashing out amongst each other and as if in a lunatic play. They began to take joy in perverse things as they entered the town, yet even through their eyes and minds, the horrors which they wrought were fine and seemingly to them, as if it were all natural.

And when the music had reached it's ending, before a now defaced and burning church were many frolicked naked about in a homicidal game of hide and seek, Nxyius clapped his hands, and the spell was broken, and all realization of their deeds came upon them, and chaos ensued to an even grater magnitude as Nyxius simply laughed as he vanished into a bubbling, writhing mass of demonic, black, sharply armored centipedes.

As the sun rose, and the burning city, once a roaring inferno now settled to a kindle, deep in his grave, Lucius Johann Emmerich stirred, and burst forth, his body parts snapped and bound together, his decay reversed and blood filled his veins and arteries. His birth was painful as skin etched itself across his body and breath came into half finished lungs, almost killing him yet again as he struggled for the aether of life.

Struggling to his feet, Lucius reached out to the sun, and cried in victory, and laughed joyfully to himself.
