gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
so as most of you dont know, gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls have recently become kosher.
and i have tried all of them and have passed the verdict:
gatorade is pretty good, like a sweeter powerade.
skittles is ok, but not great. just like chewy M&Ms.
tootsie rolls were "meh." all the hype over nothing.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
Hey, I like tootsie rolls! Skittles are better, though. Can't stand gatorade. Are sweettarts kosher?

Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
i dont know if they are, i can check.
update: checked, they arent.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
Skittles are freakin awesome. Tootsie rolls even better; not my fault you are too blind to realize this.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
Gatorade is great for mixing with wodka, if the drinking behavior of my jewish buddies is something to go on wodka is kosher as well. But then again they eat more bacon then I would ever want to.

How does that work, have they changed the ingredients to remove certain animal produce?
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
probably got it blessed by a rabbi which i believe is a necessary step.

uh, no.
kosher foods cant contain products from non-kosher animals, like bugs, or pigs or such animals.
many candies used to, or still have colorings that are made from bugs, which is why they arent kosher.
for example, red M&Ms used to use bettle juice for the red coloring. when they became kosher, they stopped using the bettle for its color.

Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
Skittles rock, as long as you separate the grape ones from the rest.

lol i knew that but i thought the final step was a blessing from an actual rabbi, like a seal of approval.
never mind, im not the jew here.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
you got it partially correct.
a rabbi has to watch the making of the product to make sure the workers dont slip in any non-kosher foods.
its not just for non-jewish companies, its for all kosher products.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
is it all the products so now a rabbi has to be there 24/7?
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
yup. well, not all the time, just when the product is being made.
-
Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
When we brought new ovens into my store we had a rabbi bless them
We also had a kosher bread slicer and a gentile bread slicer
I know all there is to know about being kosher ~:)

sure.
here, look at the section "1970s and 1980s"
the red coloring was made of Cochineal, which is made from bugs.
Quote:
Carmine may be prepared from cochineal, by boiling dried insects in water to extract the carminic acid and then treating the clear solution with alum, cream of tartar, stannous chloride, or potassium hydrogen oxalate; the coloring and animal matters present in the liquid are thus precipitated.

Yeah, I read about this before numerous times. Cochineal were used by Aztecs. Nowadays, the foodstuffs companies will do anything to have 'all natural' on their product. Bollox. As if there is any difference between carminic acid from the lab and carminic acid from the bug. But the green nuts are too chemophobic to realise that that everything is a chemical, whether good or bad. For that matter, my father thinks that way too, but his understanding of health science is appalling. Which means that he is normal, as per the societal average.
You do not want to know how many hundreds of billions, any, probably trillions of dollars are wasted painstakingly exacting all sorts of chemical compounds that could be synthesised in a jiffy for a tenth, hundredth, or even one/one-thousands of the cost of the 'natural' extraction process. At the same time, of course, the more complex compounds are in fact easier to extract from biological entities, but that is a whole different story, as are the compounds too complex to be synthesised at all.

That's segregation and it's wrong. I demand equal rights for skittles of all colors!

Skittles pawn all. Anyone who does not like Skittles is an infidel who should have their head sliced off!

Separate but equal. The grape flavor does not play well with the citrus ones, but it's fine by itself. I used to be a little OCD with my Skittles, I would separate the whole bag by colors, and eat each flavor alone. I have since gotten better, but the grape still gets excluded. :sweatdrop:

Re: gatorade, skittles, and tootsie rolls
Yeah, I dislike the grape Skittles as well. But I am no Skittles connoisseur. I generally dislike any sort of sweets for that matter, but M&Ms as well as, for instance, jelly (Jell-O for Americans) are my favourite choices.

We call it Jell-O in Canada, as well. Now I am ashamed.

Ha, I am the opposite. I nibble slowly on the M&Ms to make them last. Better for your health... I hate to be called a health nut due to the general beliefs of the so-called group, but still...

What passes for as 'salsa' in the US, or probably most European nations as well is as spicy as... Well, not spicy at all. For a connoisseur of Tabasco and real Habanero, the sorry mass-produced imitations, as any prepared food for that matter, are fine-tuned for the palates of the average to widen the market. On average, most people do not gobble up habaneros, much to their good (yah, I know, the liver is not harmed, but still, a figure of speech..). Anyhow, I hope that salsa was not home-made, as I suspect. And in Texas, home-made.... Argh, poor boy.
Funny how everyone on the 'Net is full of amazing stories, eh?
