Coming back to MTW2
Hey all,
I left MTW2 a long while ago-when there were serious bugs-like most spearmen would drop their spears when charged by cavalry!!
So I have a a couple of questions as Im thinking of coming back to the game-
1) Have the serious bugs like the one mentioned above been cured yet?
2) I was also thinking about getting the Kingdoms expansion- is this serious bug free?
3) Whats the modding situaiton like? Is it relatively easy to transfer kingdoms units into the regular MTW2 game?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Coming back to MTW2
Kingdoms isn't bug-free, but it is a considerable improvement over the vanilla game, and personally I like the more detailed maps with fewer factions. The Britannia campaign is particularly good. There are also a number of mods that add Kingdoms factions and units into the vanilla campaign- Retrofit Mod and Stainless Steel are two that have good reputations (I haven't played either).

I've played Retrofit Mod, and it's good, but I didn't notice what if anything changed from the vanilla game.

Re: Coming back to MTW2
Sorry for the late reply but hopefully this may be of some use to you to swing you back to M2TW.
To answer 1,2 &3 They never really fixed the core issues with Kingdoms - though pretty close, however thanks to the hard work of the modding community much of the games issues have been resolved. If you really want an in depth game, I will mention some of the more popular mods that I have lost hours of sleep over.
Staying close to vanilla, then Custom Campaign / Retrofit Mod is for you.
Personally you can not go past the Steel that never Stains, Stainless Steel. It has numerous additions to the game, including 31 factions, extended eastern Europe (at the expense of the America's -but who cares), there are multiple versions of Battle AI available and plus there are loads of sub-mods that add little touches to the game. There is a lot of downloading required but totally worth it. The current version is 6.2.
Other great mods that crack a mention are Deus lo Vult, which is much like Stainless Steel but about 20 times more in depth and totally hardcore. Third Age Total War which is based on Lord of the Rings -a simply awesome mod. An oldie but a goodie and the first mod I ever played which was Lands to Conquer by Lusted, which added many tweaks, solved a lot of bugs and added much to the battle ai.

Re: Coming back to MTW2
^Thanks for the info-it was very helpful.
I think I may indeed come back and have a go. I've browsed some of the nodding guides and adding custom designed units seems apt more comex than the good ol' mtw1 days!! If anyone has links to a well written guide on that topic I'd appreciate it.
I recall there being as issue with securom with kingdoms. What exactly was the issue here?
Many thanks for the assists so far.

Re: Coming back to MTW2
Take a look at this thread I found on TWC. The tutorial has another link (first one)which further defines the steps on adding units.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...kingdoms+units
Also I found this here, although it is for adding a complete faction, however it may also outline the tasks or principal for adding extra units from Kingdoms.
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...kingdoms+units
Otherwise have a good look around the "Learn to Mod" section in here, there is bound to be something of good use to you.
Hope this helps.
