Introduction:
Well, it's been a while, hasn't it? The Mafia series is by far the longest-running series in the Gameroom, and also has the most entrants with a staggering nine now. However, considering the last time I hosted this game was in early summer 2008 (I was still in high school, for God's sake!) many of you aren't familiar with my flagship franchise, or have never played in one. Hopefully, this will change and you will enjoy your experience.
Mafia IX, like the rest of the series that began the noble .Org experiment, takes place in the Frontroom, where the games were originally held before this subforum was created. It is Mafia at its most basic, with only one power role: Mafia. There are no serial killers, no vigilantes, no doctors, no third-party roles or extra victory conditions of any kind, and no Detective. It is simply Mafia vs. Town.
Roles:
Mafiosi: (2)
The villains of the game. They are terrorizing the Frontroom and murdering innocent civilians every night. If the noble town wishes to survive then they must be neutralized. Each mafioso gets one kill per night, unless one of them is lynched in which case the remaining mafioso gets two kills per night. This means two townies will die every night, no matter what (unless all mafiosi are lynched, meaning that the game is over and thus there will be no more kills ).
The mafia have some say in how much/little they put in their kill descriptions. It is up to the town to figure out how much is their work and how much is mine.
Townies: (everybody else)
This is most likely you. In case you've never played a vanilla game before, you're going to find out fast that there's no coasting through this one if you want to survive. You can't wait for the power roles to band together and nobly sniff out the mafia, because there are no power roles. There is only you and your powers of analysis. You could be the town's greatest weapon in this game, but you could also be its worst enemy, depending on how much you put into the game and whether you're right or not. Bring your 'A' game.
Game procedure:
As per tradition, the game will start with a night phase. Unfortunately, this means two people will die before they even get the chance to cast one vote. Sorry, but it works better for the story that way, and unlike in other games, you can still heavily contribute to the town's effort by careful analysis of the thread. Anyway, after night, it's day where the alive townies can vote and try to lynch the mafia. Voting procedure is the usual, i.e.:
Vote: GeneralHankerchief
If you wish to unvote, then do so as follows:
Unvote: TosaInu
Vote: GeneralHankerchief
When unvoting, I prefer you specifying who you are unvoting as it makes things easier for me to keep track of. However, I will not be as crabby about this as in the past as I have finally joined the 21st century and now keep track of votes via Excel as opposed to pen-and-paper.
Voting abstain (you are present for the round and have no lynch preference) is allowed, but "No Lynch" is not. If you post in a round but do not vote, I count it as an "abstain". Additionally, after a certain amount of rounds, usually when I deem it to be endgame, "Abstain" will no longer be allowed, meaning you must vote to lynch someone. I will let you know in the thread once this threshold has been crossed.
Other rules:
Hopefully, this section won't ever have to be invoked. I like to keep things low-maintenance, as it allows me as a host to focus on writing cool descriptions and tallying votes.
Screenshots are not allowed, no matter how (un)incriminating. Anything else that can be faked, including but not limited to: PMs, .Org chat logs, off-site chat logs, etc. are fair game, so go crazy. Note: Once dead, none of this applies and you cannot quote anything not said in the public thread at all.
I have very little tolerance for rule-breakers. It's pretty hard to mess things up in this game and I hope it stays that way. Keep in mind that I am now a Gameroom moderator, so violators will feel my wrath, now with the special sauce.
Other:
The most important rule of all has its own section: HAVE FUN!!!
Sign-ups will run for a few days. Hopefully everyone in The Shadow Fort can spare a few extra minutes every day to keep up. Thanks for your interest and best of luck!

No, I had not joined in any of the mafia games back then. I was still dwelling in the Citadel.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I hosted my first game on 8-18-2008 (yick, I was a terrible host back then), and played my first game on 8-27-2008. Mafia VIII was back in 5-28-2008.
The gameroom was a much simpler time back then. Yea, Khaan was known as Makaikhaan, Sigurd was known as Fafnesbane, Tiberius was still a Drake and not a Beskar*, Psychonaut was still quite Rythmic, Kralizec was still Fenring, QJC was still Quintus J. Cicero, Little was still as Grizzly as ever, and Kommodus was the mafia hunter extraordinaire that everyone feared. Now, Khaan is YaseiSeireMakaiMechaUltrakhaan, There's no more Kommodus, QJC, LG, Tiberius, and the mafia hunter everyone fears is random.org (praise be to the random gods, for they not only select the mafia, but they also point the innocents in their direction) and metagaming investigators who shall not be named. :laugh4:
*they are two different peoples.
Also the gameroom was much quieter back then. You could combine the top five posters in a game and that would be me now.

So as not to remove two players before the game even begins, why not start with a day phase where we find two murdered NPC's instead of players? This way you still have victims, but you don't remove players before they even get to enjoy it?
And yes, I'm in.

I will happily join this, with the knowledge that the players around me will probably have the same role and cannot play so many mind games with me.
