Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
This video is very interesting in showing the quality of troops for the Afghan army. I'm not sure of the date though. Things may have improved.
YouTube - Afghan Hash Army
What's most interesting about this is the US soldier's comments about the corruption within the Afghan army - that money and family connections get you promotion. The Afghan captain says that the soldiery are just the deliquents that have been kicked out of their villages and have little chance of promotion. This is contrasted with the Taleban who have a motivated soldiery and a meritocratic promotions policy.
If the situation is still like this, the Afghan army is doomed.

I thought the ANA were now being well paid and trained - making the Afghan Police look particularily bad by comparison.
Re: Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
The main problem in Afghanistan is that everything under Karzai and his cronies is corrupted, while Taliban maybe religious lunatics, they are not corrupted. So for the population the Taleban many times present righteous people, which they are not. The problem is that the West havent been able to find better people to run Afghanistan then Karzai and his conies.

From 1:00 I am not military but they look rather clueless, but it looks like they are having fun at least. 'the wounded can smile again'lol

Re: Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
The low-level grunts with no connections are the most trustworthy forces we have bought off. The leadership of the afghan army and the afghan police are not to be trusted. I would rather fight alongside a trustworthy, clumsy coward than a professional double-crosser.
funny video btw:
"if i wasn't here a dude in a bright blue shirt would be walking into the mountains on a combat patrol"
"his helmet is on backwards"
lol

I don't know about the ANA vs Taleban, but this does confirm my belief that today's American soldiers are the finest this nation has yet produced and - to avoid nationalist squabbles - among the best in the world. They deal with these monkeys in Afghanistan and Iraq with the utmost professionalism.

Well this is PanzerJager we are talking about. The only person in the history of the internet I have ever placed on ignore. And, to be frank, a stain on the reputation of this board. He's a fascist low life - and I'll happily take the ban/warning for saying it.
Re: Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
Glad you do because I am happy to report you for that.

While I completely agree with you -on all counts here, and I understand how hard it can be to avoid reacting to something which just goes beyond the low expectations one might already have, is it really helpful or going to get you anywhere saying that sort of thing about him? It certainly isn't going to change his mind, or that of any of his sympathisers...

Oh aren't we snotty. Panzer is an excellent debater and a highly respected member. I know who will come on top in a duel, and it isn't you.

Good for him, i'm merely stating that although it might be hard to hold one's nose the whole time, shouting doesn't make the smell go away.
What i like about this forum is the wide variety of opinions its patrons posses, we have to be realistic though and accept that there are some irreconcilable views -and deal with that maturely.

You are doing it all wrong then. No need to insult fellow members. Atmosphere is good here don't ruin it.
Re: Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
Monkeys wansn't the correct word but the American (and British) soliders have been extremley professional in an enviorment which is not very conducive for it.
That's not a condemnation of the people there but rather the suituation
We are doing 100x better than Nam with 100x bigger a microscope.
The only member I've ever put on ignore is Louis, his harssment became to much for the office enviorment

Panzer is very right wing, sometimes extremely so, but he's no facist.
It's rather akin to me calling you a "Godless Stalinist", where "Godless" means "utterly lacking in morals, sympathy or compuction of concience".
Panzer shouldn't call them "monkeys" any more than I should call you a Curr.
Re: Afghanistan - Afghan Army v. Taleban
Apparently this thread is done.
