Constant Declarations of War
No, I'm not talking about the AI constantly declaring war against me, I'm used to that. My question is, is there a reason why I would get the same declaration of war message for the same 2 AI factions every single turn?
Right now in my Sweboz campaign it's about 242 BC, and a few years back, around 248 BC, the Romani and Kart-Hadast finally went to war. I was relieved frankly, because the Romans had been trying their luck in the Alps and were inching closer to my lands. Since I don't feel like heading South yet, I really didn't want them to force me to retaliate. Considering this, I was pretty happy to get the message saying that the Romans and Carthagians were at war. But the next turn I received the same message. And the next. And the next. And you get the picture.... It's happened every turn since then. The strange thing is I never get a message about a ceasefire though.
So, let's say the Romans call a ceasefire every turn during their turn, and then the Carthies declare war every turn during their turn. This would explain the messages I guess, but wouldn't I get a ceasefire message too? Just to be clear, I have started the script properly and this is EB 1.2. I don't really think it's a bug, so that's why I didn't post in the bug report thread, but it is definitely a bit confusing.
Re: Constant Declarations of War
I had the same thing happen to me in my current Casse campaign. I'm sure I've seen the answer somewhere on the forum but cannot remember where.
Re: Constant Declarations of War
Don't complain about it! they'll all make definitive peace when you'll get close to them 0_o. In my Sweboz campaing, I'm now about 200BC, and i played slowly (until romans attacked me) I stayed in germania until 230... and took Britain around 225BC, but stayed in germania on the continent. rome, every turn, was at war with cartage, and epeiros was at war every turn with i don't remember who. and every turn i received their message of war... then peace the turn after, then war... ect. until i went tired of romans full stack and i prepared an invasion army that went rampage in rome and conquered every cities up to Capua (without segesta) during that time, Aedui made peace with arverni, rome, with carthage, and Epeiros with thweir ennemy... and of corse I've been attacked on 3 fronts... So while I was bothered when every one was at war every turn, i far more prefered when i could wage a single front war... i had almost a 100 years peace with Aedui, the same with Arverni...
Re: Constant Declarations of War
But I don't want them to make peace haha.... I want them to fight the Punic Wars and right now they're just doing this stupid "declare war every turn but never actually do much" thing.
Re: Constant Declarations of War
Sad... but true... maybe if you give money to one or both of these factions, they'll go rampage on each other, but I doubt it. they'll probably go berserk on you... I wonder if it's only in ''barbarian'' campain (as the only account of such thing we have are with sweboz and casse), or it happens in general like that...
Re: Constant Declarations of War
It's the script. Rome sieges Messana, next turn the DOH ai finds something better for them to do, so they lift the siege but dont move (they have no MP left)..next turn the best thing (as far as Homer Simpson ai is concerned) is to resiege....thus creating a stupid cycle, which you see as constant peace and war, as somewhere there will be a Rome diplomat forcing peace with the Phoenecians (sorry Carthage..)

It happens in general. The AI always gangs up on you as soon as possible, with only a few exceptions. The only time I've ever really been able to maintain an alliance with a faction that I have bordered for an extremely long time is in my Baktrian campaign. It's past 200 BC (I don't remember exactly when it is), and I'm still allied with Pahlava despite sharing a border with them for probably close to 100 years. I'm also still neutral with Saka despite sharing a border for over 50 years too, which is also surprising. It probably helps that I'm moving very slowly, and the Arche is still quite powerful, so Pahlava hasn't made much progress. The fact that the Saka and Pahlava have been at war for basically forever is also probably helping. Unfortunately, this diplomatic sensibility is absent from my other games...
I tried teleporting a huge Carthaginian army over to Sicily to spark some action. They did take Syracuse from the Eleutheroi, but now they're standing right next to Roman occupied Rhegion and they aren't attacking (despite outnumbering the garrison by at least 3 to 1)... It's just annoying. And the Romans are still screwing around in the Alps...

This isn't happening though I don't think. I tried ending a turn with toggle_fow on just to see what was going on, and neither appeared to attack each other or Missina, and yet they get the declaration.
Is it possible to move diplomats with the move_character cheat? Maybe if all the Roman diplomats suddenly ended up in the steppe for a turn and the Carthie diplomats took a little trip to Yemen, the war would continue and the Carthies would be pissed enough to retaliate....
Re: Constant Declarations of War
I do notice that in my games, it's the script and a pesky Barbaroi Diplomat.
Funny, I don't see it happen that often though. Either it's the ALEX.exe or the Jebi's flaming spirit of Rhomiaoktonos, the Karchedoi often send their stack with Nellies straight at Messana and take it within several years into the game. Then they either sit there for the Barbaroi to attack (and fail due a combination of Nellies and Jebi's Rhomaiokonos Chapter), or have a go at the Syrakosai...
Re: Constant Declarations of War
I think we must get Rid of those ever meddling AI diplomats... too bad, guessing which Decimvs(A-H) romanvs is a tiresome work
And yeah, when it was properly done, set Barbaroi diplomats on Ireland, and Carthies trip to Terhazza
They won't meet again forever...
BTW, I think seriously about training of diplomats placed far - far away in the tech trees (eq Huge City with Gov't level 1 and maximum academic buildings)
Re: Constant Declarations of War
NOOOOOO don't get rid of the AI diplomats................... it's the best way to get all your assassins trained up :)
