My game crashes

I have just created two new regions, Sarmizegetusa (in Dacia ) and Corsica (near Sardinia region)


i have RTW, patch 1.3

so when i select the faction and start the game, it closes

i checked evry text but it dont work

Have you tried using the -show_err extension to get an error message on crash?

yes, but nothing happens, i checked evry text in files i modified, i found some mistakes, and the name was not avalabile, so i repaired this mistakes, but it is still not working,





so, more details:

i creates 2 regions
i modified the map_height so i can place the settlement where i want
i have rtw patched with v1.3
i am using the -show_err but nothing appares
my games quits to desktop right after i selected the faction (julii) and started the game
i created a new name for character



mabye the problem is with the map_height, how can i check it?


i reinstalled the game to be sure all camnpaign files are original and unmodified, and i tried to use Campaing Map Editor but it is not working, it says it can't load file descr_start and descr_regions_and_settlement_name_lookup (but they are original and unmodified)

oh, and another problem, mabye this is why i can't load the campaign; i didn't created any army garrisoned in the settlement, it is empty, only buildings ( i did't changed any building, i copyed another settlement) but no troops

No garrison doesn't matter. I suggest you try removing the new character then running the game (go back to unmodded files where possible). If it works that should tell you that the problem is with the character not the regions, and if it still crashes you'll know that it's the regions. At least that will narrow down the possible errors.

I take it you mean descr_strat.txt? How have you added a new settlement without adding a new name, or added the new character without adding desc_strat?

i mean, i created the settlements as the tutorial says, and i backuped the original files ( i reinstalled the game and copied them somewhere in computer) and Campaing Map Editor sayes there is a prblem with the files, even with the original ones, even with the ones from newly installed game

i renamed the charater with an original rtw name, and i found an mistake, i edited some of the charaters and there were not any leader, but.... it still don't work.....

Ah ok, I understand. Well I would try removing the character as I said, restoring backups where possible, then we can go from there. A tip for the future is to make changes one at a time, and test between changes. It can be tedious, but nothing near as tedious as bug hunting.

i removed that caharacter but it still don't work.... it is the problem that map_heights.tga have a much smaller size than the original?

I made some changes and now the problem is almost solved, it now kicks me back to menu, and when i exit the game, the -show:err command works, it says:

Script Error in data/world/maps/base/descr_regions.txt, at line 275 column 25

Unrecognised: 'italy' as a region resource class (or hidden resource)


what should i do?

now appares that message with "if you were in middle of something the information might be lost" and the button "close"

mabye the map_heights.tga don't work, if yes that is the problem, becouse i removed some mountains and i placed the settlement right where they were....

Don't worry about double posting, there's a short probationary 'Junior Member' period on this site. Once you become a member you'll get the edit post function.

Did you also edit the ground types for the mountain? This could be your problem, if you didn't edit the ground types the impassable mountain terrain will still be there.

in data/world/maps/base, i edited only map_regions.tga, map_heights.tga and descr_regions.txt, i din't edited any more files.... so i need to edit map_ground_types.tga?, hmmmm, it seems to be hard, can you sugest me a tutorial for editing it?, both settlements of Corsica ( the island north of Sardinia) and Sarmizegetuza (southern part of Dacia) are on mounains, this should be the problem, i am now searching a tutorial, but please post a reply with one anyway

so, i redone the map_ground_types.tga so the terrain is now passable, and found a lot of resources in descr_regions.txt that shouyldn't be there, resources named italy/sparta/rome, and i deleted them, but the is still a problem...... the game is kicking me back to menu, and when i quit the game, it says that julii faction don't have a leader, but i have, what should i do?

OH MY GOD! I solved all poroblems, and now it works perfectly, no bugs, no problems, thak you very much!!!

now, can you please tell me how to add units and characters in settlements, i mean where i get the settlement's coordonates?

You can either do it by looking up the coordinates of the pixel in map_regions, or I believe there is a cheat in game which displays the coordinates of where your mouse is.

it was show_cursorstat
but you can use HouseOfHam's settlement locator for easier time, it was very handy especially when you are handling many regions...

Thanks, but there is a problem.... I don't know how to make the character's relations with the family tree..... how can i add army in the settlement, wothout adding a character?

just add "general" instead of "named character", and don't give him bodyguard units and any traits and or ancillaries
