Must have units for Macedonia

Hey guys,

Starting another Macedonia campaign in next few days so what units should I aim to recruit soon as?

From what I remember Thracian infantry and skirmishers are a must along the agrian infantry.... any others I should try to get ASAP?

To get this I take it all my thracian provinces should be left as type IV goverment?

Thracian Prodromoi are another must have. Make Serdike a type I government though to have a second province to recruit Agrianians. If you go north from Serdike you'll find provinces with flexible celtic line infantry like Cordinau Orca or Boii Cingetos if you want to build a more roman style army. CLassical Hoplites are handy as a mobile cavalry counter or to plug holes in the phalangite line. And obviously cretan archers available as mercenaries.

Though in general for every unit you'll find you can recruit one just as good in Pella. Makes conquering as Macedon a bit unrewarding. And turtling overpowered.

A Makedon full stack should contain the following:

1 x General
1 x Hetairoi
1 x Hippeis Thessalikoi or Lonchophoroi Hippeis
2 x Thraikioi Prodromoi
5 x Pezhetairoi
2 x Galatikoi Kuarothoroi or Hypaspistai or Cordinau Orca
2 x Thureophoroi
2 x Agrianikoi Pelekouphoroi or Thraikioi Romphaiaphoroi
1 x Peltastai Makedonikoi
1 x Thraikioi Peltastai
2 x Toxotai Kretikoi or Sphendonetai Rhodioi

Agrianikoi Pelekouphoroi are one of my favorite units for Makedonia. There quite excellent light infantry, who make up good reserves in most situations.
