Well fitting situations

On my current Roman game, I had a cool chain of events that will be leading to the Polybian reforms.

Alright, so before I even took Taras, I sent my starting faction heir up to Segesta with his starting army to try and take it. The naked dudes and other gauls completely wiped out my army, and killed my Faction Leader (the starting old guy in Rome had just died). I built another bigger army and sent him northward to Segesta. The Gauls were depleted this time, and I had a much bigger army, so I took the town, but I still lost quite a bit of my forces.

Then I had my First Punic War, lasting roughly from 264 to 254. In my first battle against Carthage, they used their elephants against my left flank, while my right flank was pinned down fighting Libyans and Iberians. I eventually won, but it was tough battle.

After that war, I decided to go north again, and maybe take out some more Gauls. I took Bononia and Mediolanum, but both were tough fights. Then, I continued my army marching north until I found a huge Aedui full stack heading through the alps. I looked at their army, and it was mostly levy spearmen and slingers. I thought it'd be an easy fight, but it turned out to be a huge Pyrrhic victory for me. It's about 248 at this point, and now, after fighting large amounts of Gauls with my Camilian troops and losing a few battles, my FM who led the battles will return to Rome to rethink what type of equipment his Legions should be using.

Anyone else ever have any perfect chain of events that lead up to awesome things like that? It's kind of a specific question, but I'm just wondering.

well the gauls and other barbarians like war a lot more than romans, its natural to adopt war-like tools and customs so Romans can better defend themselves. Gauls sacked Roma because they're too used to the ritual pushing 'war' that is hoplite warfare. (adopted from the Greek-like Etruscans, and city states of southern Italy)

pikeman, you seem top forget that the only barbarians in EB are Romans... stop to speak like that, the Romaioktonoi have been cool since a time, but with somebody spaming everywhere that romans are the heir of the world and that everybody else are barbarians, you'll only attract a holy romaioktonoi fire down on all your posts... i say that for you dude...

Contrary to popular belief, they do not like war. Acts of bravery help to increase your fame a lot, which is why they are impetuous.

Sweboz are not bloodthirsty as well, they raid Rome for supplies...

well, it looks like that Pikemen was obviously some kind of Roman fans...

He must knows that the "Roman Empire" was finally absorbed by the Greeks as "Basileos ton Rhomaion"

common ludens this(pikemans post) is one of the most bs posts i've read in ages, and used to follow a watch blogg for a boulevard magazine and moderated an offtopic section(I'm not boasting about this, more like a garbage collector :D )

well to not go entirely offtopic, I'd like to add that in my Pahlava campaign I got the MOT about at the same time that:
control of the tigris valley was cemented with the reformed gov in edessa.
the first unit of Givpanvars(I actually don'T train them as I prefer Pahlavan-i Zrehbaran but reputation is everything)
and most conveniently I also got my second noble HA-including-MIC on the western front ;) don't know why but I prefer them to the armored ones

not as cool I have to admit, but hey, no scripted (unit)reforms for the pahlavi

That's one of the reasons why i like the mod that much. It concurs with my opinion that most humans are and ever were barbarians. This stupid roman lover/roman hater thing confirms that...

If not everything is wrong I learned of ancient times the romans were as warlike as most other people of this time. If they were not, they would not have been able to conquer most of the known world...

Since I can't remember having a reform except for the Indo-Saka one I must answer this with no.
But did the romans really need more wars with the celts to change their equipment? I thought they changed there way of fighting after Roma was sacked and the "Polybian Reforms" were actually a slowly development?
