Crusades Hotseat Signup
Hello,
Watching the current running Britannia hotseat has reminded me how much I enjoyed all of the Kingdoms campaigns hotseats I participated in here so I thought I'd see about starting a new one. It will be the Kingdoms Crusades campaign. Battles can be fought by the attacker or done in autoresolve as preferred. Spies can open up forts but not settlements. 48 hours allotted per turn (or more with notice from the player). The rules will be fleshed out further before the game starts but will be fairly standard (no reloads/exploits, etc.). Roleplaying is encouraged and I'm hoping for a fairly easygoing game, but I don't expect miracles. :clown:
Available factions:
Eastern Roman Empire
Jerusalem
Antioch
Egypt
Turks

Any slots suits me... though I'd favor KoJ (for obvious reasons... Zim knows what I mean...)
-
Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
I'll take Turks :)
1) When is this game likely to start?
2) How long do these games tend to last?
and 3) How experienced are you guys?
-
Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
dont know when it starts but as far as i know it can last several months if not years. and no matter how much experience u got just like with any other thing u best learn by doing. though dont be upset in case someone teaches u a lesson. best way to get better in life is by failure so... enjoy urself

Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
I'll grab the Romans then. :)
Wasn't planning on joining this one, but my only experience of a Kingdoms hotseat was subbing for a bruised Scotland, then a slightly stronger Wales. Fighting the Vikings and English bravely, only to be stabbed in the back by my Irish allies as we stood on the verge of invading England. Bah, why do I even bother again? xD
Btw, will the game have forced auto-resolve, or the option to fight the battles yourself? I think I'd actually prefer an auto-resolve only game, actually.

I second this motion,
Also I concerning the Crusade expansion, I'm aware that Muslim nations have the ability to call a Jihad, and christians are unable to do that same, I' think this is an unfair advantage,
With Jihads, the muslim factions get faster movement speeds, no upkeep, and countless armies against all their enemies... just a though?

Oh, sorry, didn't notice. Bah, then I'm out. The rest don't appeal to me, and summer has reached Sweden anyhow. ;)

You could host it yourself? We could do with another GM or two around here..

I don't see why I couldn't try something like this, although I might have to refer to you in case of any similar disputes to what we have seen in the Dogs of War hotseat ^_^

Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
Hey guys - if you are still interested in this game I'll start and host it and maybe someone else can take over as admin once it's up and running.
Post here to reconfirm your faction choice and when I've heard from everyone I'll kick it off.

KoJ please, while the Byzzies were fun in the last Crusades hotseat I did a while back, I'd like to try something different this time.

Yes, it's 1.5 I believe.

Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
wow, this is turning into an org vets game!
Generalhankerchief: KoJ
Tristan de Castelreng: Antioch
Cecil XIX: ?
TosaInu: ?
Now I don't want to come across all dictatorial but I would strongly suggest the following rule set for the best experience:
- 48 hours to play each turn, extensions granted at request, GM to skip turn if deadline missed with no communication
- All battles between human-controlled factions to be autoresolved
- No spies to be used to open the gates of settlements or forts
- Siege equipment may only be used to open gates as follows: Ballista can open nothing, Catapults can open wooden walls, Trebuchets can open stone walls
- No crusades or jihads can be called or joined by a human player
- No destroying buildings for cash under any circumstances
- If an army is beaten in battle by a faction that is after them in the turn order that army may not move on the following turn. An army which is immobilized in this way may not be attacked on the following turn by any faction unless it has retreated to a fort or settlement.
- No exploits (surround-and-destroy, merchant fort etc)
Let me know what you think of this - it's your game after all so I'll just go with what the majority wants.

Re: Crusades Hotseat Signup
Any faction is good phonicsmonkey,
It's my first hotseat ever, my second Crusade game and maybe my 5th Kingdoms campaign: don't call me a vet please.
-clear
-clear
-clear, does that also mean spies can't enter cities? In RTW a spy inside a city automatically gave a chance?
-clear
-clear
-clear
-not clear, also how can player 3 know army 2 has been beaten by player 1?
-I'm not up to date with all the exploits that are there
I'm fine with any or no rule, but I like a list of exploits (I might use it otherwise thinking it's a good way to defeat my enemy).
Edit: I should be at 1.5, can you please open my savegame to test all is ok? Attachment 1063

You can infiltrate with spies but you can't assault the settlement under siege if the only means you have of 'opening the gates' is that the spy is in there. Basically you have to either bring catapults, build rams, or wait the siege out. This rule is to stop spies being spammed and walls being basically useless against them. Also with spies there is a constant temptation to reload when infiltrations fail, which is worsened if they are critical to gaining access to a settlement or fort.

Yes this rule isn't perfect but the purpose of it is to remove the imbalance caused by the turn order.
As things stand if an army from a faction ahead of you in the turn order attacks and defeats you on their turn, when it comes to your turn you will have no movement points as they were used up retreating. Then on their next turn their attacking army will have full movement again and can do the same thing to you.
At TWC they impose a rule whereby screenshots must be posted as evidence of every PvP battle. I don't want to go that far but maybe when you post your save game here at the end of the turn you can say something like "defeated King X in battle, he can't move next turn and is protected from attack" as a reference for other players.

I usually expand on this in the full ruleset by saying the following:
- No exploits, including (but not limited to): no merchant forts, no surround-and-destroy, no tribute deals that deliberately put you into debt greater than 10k, no deliberate diplomatic exchange of territories just to get a free garrison, no tribute deals with or monetary gifts to the Pope, no attacking ships in ports
If a player is in doubt about whether an in-game action is permissible he shall consult the GM who will make a ruling. Players are requested to compete in a good spirit and use their judgment and sense of fairness at all times.
Does that help?
