How can I get AS off my back?
Alright, I am currently in a Baktria campaign. about 66,000 bucks in treasury, and i own from Persepolis to Pura, and up to Baktra and the one above it. I want to build up lots of money so I can afford an invasion force into the Indian regions, but AS keeps attacking me, cutting off my primary trade source.
How can I keep them off my back for a while, say, 30 turns? I'm thinking about taking the place north-west of Persepolis (sorry for not being so specific), which has 3 units, none at full strength, amounting up to about 100 men. Then give it back to them for a ceasefire, possible alliance and trade rights. does this sound like it will work? if not how can I stop them short of invading my way to freakin Mytilene?
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
Sounds like a workable plan, but if you want any chance of them staying off your back, you should probably add in a regular tribute of ~500 mnai per turn. Expensive but that will most likely keep them off your back for the thirty turns you want. -M
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
Only on a 50- 50 chance up to M/M difficulty. On Hard and VH it will not work; the AI is insanely player-hating. Such is EB. If a faction has a land border with you it will usually attack, and I can assure you that AS will.
A better plan is to invade all provinces in the border region, sack them, leave them and let them rebel (or give them to another faction). When you no longer has a land border with them, they will stop attacking you and likely sue for peace.

Letting them rebel is probably the better choice - the faction you give them to will probably attack you after a few turns, if they even accept the gift.
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
Ye , turning the border into a rebel province line should do the trick.
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
thanks, never thought of that! alright, so I think in around 10 turns or so, when my epicly grand army is assembled (Ephebic training FTW!!!) I'll begin to sack their cities to my west, take the one to the north, and let them rebel. then I can turn my attention to sacking and rebeling on the Saka border, because they don't care for peace either. and then India will be mine!!!!
BTW: anyone know how to devestate enemy tiles? does it give me anything?
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
Devastation is automatic. It doesn't give Baktria anything. BTW, I agree that the best plan is to create a buffer zone between you and AS for peace. I tried using Phraapsa, Ekbatana, and Susa under Aedui control as a buffer. It worked ok... but sometimes AS will just never give you peace. If you get it, the 500 mnai a turn as gifts helps - I think this works better as individual tributes, not one mnai per turn agreement.
I would also like to know how the heck you ever saved up that much mnai as Baktra, lol. I don't think I ever broke 10k.
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
well I turtled for about 20 years, and i focused mainly on building mines. lots and lots of mines. main source of income really; be bankrupt without them.
anyway I expect that to go down the toilet after I assemble Le Grand Armee.
and I thought you could like go over enemy tiles, like the little icons on your map? you know the ones that say "exceptional horses are bred here" and "this region is known for its blablabla" or "there is a precious gems mine here".
I could swear I saw something about being able to devestate those tiles.

Blitzing is the answer my friend. As Baktra , in 20 years , i've captured the whole India and Baktrian provinces up to Sulek( the one under Saka starting prov). Indian provinces are full of population and sometimes mines too so that will really step up your money supply. not to mention trade which chips in .
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
I don't know, although the AI hates you, some factions are strangely friendly. The Getai are the most notable example, as I have almost never seen them declare war on any nation first aside from the Sauros, and even that's rare.
Whenever I play as Getai the three factions in Greece are surprisingly reliable neutral factions.....well at least until they're done tearing each other apart.
Oh, also when I played as AS, Baktria, Pontos, and Hayasdan were surprisingly docile. Those three never declared war on me (I was playing H/M though)
I have the same experience as Pahlava, as only AS and Ptolemies aggressively attacked me.
On a side note I'd like to know how aggressive the Gallic factions are, as in Western Europe I only play as Gauls and do not know how aggressive they actually are. Oh and Casse is surprisingly aggressive if you so much as land one unit on the Isles....
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
oh well I'm playing on M/VH. VH battles dont make the A.I. more intelligent, just buff up its units stats. thats why I dont like it.
anyway, the most incredible stroke of luck from the least obvious faction. So AS is blockading my port at Persepolis, which is bleeding my treasury. Unable to create my own fleet, I cannot end the blockade. \
well, the Eleutheroi city across the Gulf of Oman has this fleet of equal size as AS, and decides that its trade is suffering as well (idk if they actually get any of that profit, but realistically it would). So they come on over to my side of the channel and beat the snot out of the Seleukid navy jacking up my trade.
so now this AS navy is cowering as far as they possibly can. Thanks Rebels! Love you!
Re: How can I get AS off my back?
If you really want peace, why not become their protectorate again until you have achieved what you want?

Because then you have no money....
