An airplane is not a truck.
Is this confirmed? Last I heard is that he was on the plane, but there were survivors and the names of the dead have not been released.
Sad that such an interwebs expert died, I'm afraid I don't know more about him than the legandary sentence with the tubes.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
You stay classy, backroomers. :shame:
Attention all:
As is our custom, posters will refrain from casting aspersions regarding the deceased until the appropriate funeral honors have been rendered. A few posters have already slipped and had their posts edited or removed. Please do NOT test this boundary further.
My thoughts and prayers with the Stevens family and the others who have lost loved ones in this accident.
Wow, the details emerging about the crash and aftermath are kinda rough. My sympathies to the families of the dead, certainly, but even more sympathies to the survivors of the crash.
Former Sen. Ted Stevens lay dead in the mangled fuselage of the plane. A 13-year-old boy escaped death but watched his father die a few feet away. Medical workers spent the miserable night tending to survivors' broken bones amid a huge slick of fuel that coated a muddy mountainside.
Okay, looks as though the plane lacked a voice recorder. I don't understand this at all. They're talking about putting black boxes in automobiles, so why on earth shouldn't small passenger aircraft be required to carry recorders? Outrageous.
Of particular interest to investigators is whether a system on the 1957 DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter plane meant to alert the pilot that the plane was approaching terrain was working, or if the alarm function had been suppressed, [Deborah Hersman] said.
The plane also wasn't required to have a cockpit voice recorder or flight data recorder, but investigators were hoping to glean information from cell phones and other devices and instruments aboard the plane, Hersman said.
She estimated a final report could take more than a year.
Can someone remove that ******* video in the OP? Jesus, a Senator just died. Show some respect.
Ted Stevens was a perfect man, who did no wrong and utilized the publics money efficiently and served their interests always.
There's nothing funnier than mocking an 80 year old man who can't explain the specifics of how the internet works on the day of his death. I mean, what a dolt! I know my grandmother gave a lecture on IPv4 address exhaustion last month. It's not like he did anything else of note, like, oh I don't know, serving 40 years in the Senate.
Pointed commentary on Senator Stevens and his career will be "in season" as of 1800 Eastern on Wednesday, 18 August, 2010.
rip for now
