My mouth dropped last night as I went in to kick the Ronin out of a province and I was joined by my AI Allies in the venture. I've played over 12 full campaigns through, in singleplayer, and never have I ever seen this happen.
I was playing as Clan Imagawa, and I was allied to Hojo. I had just killed the Takeda Daimyo, in my second battle of this campaign, and I went on the offensive to claim his Ronin-ized provinces. I attacked a province, first, and after I clicked to advance the turn to the AI, Clan Hojo sent an army into that province as well. It told me that the Hojo were my allies and had decided to join me in the attack on the Ronins.
Hehe, cool. We stormed the province together and killed 95% of the other guys. I claimed victory and the province. Hojo left and went about his business for 2 turns, then came back and knocked on my door, breaking the alliance. NEEDLESS to say, I didn't let him have the province. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

OBTW - Never accept the trade agreement with the Portugese while playing the Imagawa - if you aren't huge yet. I was playing as the Imagawa the other night, a different campaign than the one I just talked about, and I ended up losing half my lands due to revolts in the following 2 turns. Bad bad bad.

Only ever had this happen once. I was attacking Shinano as Takeda when Oda decides to jump in the fray. Oda and I were on cease-fire level of alliance.
I deploy, anticipating a tough up-hill when I hear the unmistakeable sound or fighting! Seems Oda beat me too the punch. Well he didn't impress the Uesugi archers much, but he did bleed them dry of arrows http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Oda routed out after inflicting 30% casualties or so and running Uesugi's arrows dry. I had marched uphill unopposed during the fray, and proceeded to thoroughly spank Uesugi http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Likewise, it has happened to me but once. In mine the AI held back till I'd fully engaged my army. THEN he struck from the opposite flank. Not bad!

yeah, I was invaded by a numerically superior force and was simultaneously invaded by someone else.
the two enemies end up on the "invaders" part of the map and then start fighting each other! Naturally, I just sat back and watched and then tackled the remaining units with ease.
only happened once, though, but man was it cool....

i ahve had this happen many times but sometimes they try to claim it for them selfs in the end.

Daimyo, I must disagree with what you said about Imagawa and trading... their specialty is the shinobi....

Well, Zen Blade, I must disagree with you disagreeing with my post. I said it wasn't wise to start trade with the Portugese unless your clan was BIG. I mean that unless your lands are over 200% loyal to you, you cuold have big problems with the commoners.
My problems resulted from me hastily taking over 5 provinces within 4 turns, then accepting the FIRST trade offer from the Portugese.
I also found that if I was taxing these provinces (ex-Shimazu) at 100%, their loyalty faultered. However, the next night, I taxed them at 90% and the loyalty went up 20-30% per turn, and they produced more, at a faster rate.

You don't go Christian by simply accepting the Portuguese offer of trade. You have to build something, trading post or church. When I do this I always check loyalty levels beforehand as well as lower taxes to minimum. Have to anticipate the righteous indignation of all those Buddhists http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif 3 well placed shinobi will hold any province under these circumstances.

I know what went wrong, there. I had taken too many provinces in the first 5 years, and I didn't have the manpower to keep the peace on that damn island. I didn't have any shinobi, let alone 12 to spare for that matter. I was fighting 4 wars at once, Takeda, Hojo, Oda, and Shimazu. It was ugly quick, and after I lost those 4 provinces, there was no coming back. Lesson learned.
I restarted the campaign and have managed it rather well thus far, not a single problem with revolts and I am playing defense on the mainland while I've already taken out the Shimazu and Takeda entirely.
Surprisingly, 20 years into the game, and Uesugi hasn't started a fight with me. He keeps trying to, but runs away and decides that he doesn't want to fight, so it keeps showing him as an ally. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif

This sure have happened to me once when I was attacking Shinano while at the sametime my ally, the Imagawa also atacked. But during the battle I let the Imagawa fought against the Takeda army first then I went in and finished the rest.

I don't usually conform to Christianity with any haste, because the riots usually involve warrior monks. Although one thing I am confused about is that one of my provinces still seems able to produce buddhist monks with no problems despite it being 100% Christian.
Back to the topic of alliances, I quite recently had Lord Takeda send an allied force - it was probably just a province we both happened to want that was owned by the Ronins. He only sent a crappy 12 naginata and 47 yari cavalry so he needn't have bothered, though. I suppose it does illustrate that the alliance is useful for something - I don't generally make them because it is harder on my conscience when I have to attack my former allies.

Sengoku... I think what you are seeing is because you built the Monastery BEFORE the building of the first Portuguese trading post or church. I think you'll find you can't build any NEW monasteries but the old ones will still produce for you.

How can you go christian and have a 100% christian province and still produce warrior monks.
I think thats cheating by getting the best of both religions.

Very cool Soly, I've never seen such a thing happen before. I did invade a Ronin province at the same time as an enemy Daimyo though. We all stood glaring at one another waiting for the other to move. Think of the cemetery scene in "The Good the Bad & the Ugly."

Never got any AI help in a fight, only trouble. When I and the AI Diamyo invaded the same weak province I had to fight two armies or withdraw. Doesn't seem to matter if you were allied with him or not, they constantly break the alliances anyway.
