final steps in texturing.

first of all: I'm an utter noob when it comes to modding, so please, try to be as detailed a plossible when you explain something.

allright, now we can get to the question. I picked up creating a new unit with Alletun's Tome of Knowledge. it has been smooth sailing so far. I edited a model, made the uvmap, and now I'm trying to texture it. and now I'm stuck.
i treid to use the converter from Alpaca's to change my dds to a texture file, but somehow it didn't work. and yes, i do have python installed (V2.7) I don't know if python needs 2.5, but since I can't find V2.5...
there's no error report, or anything, the only thing that happens when I run it is that a command prompt flashen on the screen.

so, I hope that anyone can help me.

There is another texture converter, but I forgot where it is, probably on the another computer, but my father takes that now, I'll tell a bit later.
