Thats why I slightly dislike units with spear/sword combo: They use spears when they should be swinging their swords around and switch to swords when they should be doing a spear wall (like when being trampled by cavalry).... But will be weirder if they just dropped their swords and popped their spears out of nowhere. And that is a shame because lots of awesome units use that combo

The difference between this units is that the alpine and helveti phalanx have their spears as first weapons and the axes/swords as secondary but the Arverni nobles (and Solduros and Rycalawre) have their swords as primary weapons. But the secondary weapon always dominates, they use them for charging, they switch to it when falling down and you can activate it with ALT+click, while the primary weapon will only be used if you do a simple click but that doesn't work very well most of the time. Like with all things that are bad about EB it's because of the damn RTW engine...
Re: Lessons learned so far
Well, I dont think those count as lessons learned but the EDU opened for a closer look :P
Re: Lessons learned so far
I thought most warriors charged spears first and then drew their swords once their spear inevitably breaks? Too bad spears can't "break" in the game though, how I wish they could for my Solduros....
