Name change from The Guild to The Org

Back in 1999, these forums were initially called the Sword Dojo, a name in keeping with the Shogun: Total War period. That was changed to The Guild in the run up to Medieval: Total War. We've kept the name ever since, although The Guild is no longer widely used or recognised.

So we've decided to change it to The Org. In practice, this won't make a great deal of difference: emails will come from The Org instead of The Guild, and various FAQs and titles have been changed.

I always mainly think of this place as "The Guild", that's what I've got it at at the top of my favourites list.

Change it!

I don't have a strong opinion on this - but a few comments/points for consideration:

- The name "The Guild", though a good name, is never used, as far as I can tell anyway, because it's never been displayed prominently on the site. It's also not how this site is known generally - either here or at other Total War fan sites. This place is known simply as "the .org".

- The ".org" is good as a nickname for this site - but not so sure if it's great as an official name for a Total War fan site. It sounds very generic and many sites may refer to themselves as "the .org" or "the .com" or "the .net". In this respect "The Guild" is clearly preferable as it's much more distinctive, individual and well unique.

- The "Sword Dojo" was a good name, but if re-adopted, it would not "fit" so well when the next game is released.

- Random ideas - get a good sized "The Guild" logo/banner designed (competition?) - featuring e.g. the forging of a katana, some silhouettes of samurai training in kenjutsu, etc, etc - but above all the name featuring prominently. This can then be updated for later games or the alternative forum themes/skins?

- Get the blurb updated to "The Guild (often referred to as simply 'the .org')" or something similar so that new people are aware of what the site is called.

If you want to drop the name, totalwar.org seems to be both descriptive and fitting the “org” shorthand. :shrug:

we were officially the guild? I did not know we were officially anything besides totalwar.org.

To be honest, I always thought of TW.Org as The Guild, it was much more fitting to the period when I came over in 2005 and it stuck with me ever since.

For me it's like the STW2 and TWS2 thing. The place is the same! :wink:

I say change it. I have rarely heard it called The Guild, mainly The Org.

yeah, it's known elsewhere as the ORG, well, totalwar.ORG

I came here from TWC because I heard about "the org".

So yeah.
