Brink - anyone tried this?
Brink is a just released shooter that has managed to get different gameplay than COD type shooters. It's basically just a multiplayer shooter with single player bots.
Of note is the ability to jump and leap and climb around a la parkour;

Ars Tech likes the PC game (though there's a bug with ATI cards), as does Penny Arcade, though reactions are mixed.

RPS Verdict - mixed.
And since it's multiplayer, waiting for it to come down in price means waiting until no one plays anymore...
Re: Brink - anyone tried this?
I was actually under the impression that this won't be out for another few months.
Since I'm still relatively new to shooters, I guess I'll wait until I get a bargain price on this one.
Re: Brink - anyone tried this?
It looks interesting but there doesn't seem to be a lot of meat on the bones. If people are still playing at after price-drop I might get it, really like the style.

Re: Brink - anyone tried this?
If anyone played Splash-damage's original Wolfenstein:Enemy territory total conversion multiplayer mod (which was awesome), then Brink will be quite familiar. Being a bit of a splash-damage fan, I've played Brink as well as Quake wars (the current middle-child/game) and W:ET.
I'd defintely caution that so far, Brink is buggy -some of the maps have very odd/no sound on my system, for example. As usuall the internets are full of people raing that it CTDs/BSDs/heralds the last judgement etc.
As long as those buggy maps are avoided, the game is otherwise fine for me and fun enough. I'd say Brink is the least demanding of splash-damage's games but it does have a solid team and class based core. If you like that kind of FPS then it's good, but I'd wait till it's been patched a bit. Same story as most games now -sucks to pre-order it...
In a way i wish it had more of the deployable weapons in previous titles (mortars, MGs etc), never mind vehicles. So in that sense it is quite like TF, but with a lot more flexibility in your setup -e.g. you could play as a TF scout but with an assault rifle or sniper rifle (i think, not tried that last though).
Re: Brink - anyone tried this?
I've heard from many people that it struggles to differentiate itself from TF2 and suffers because it was advertised as something new. Anyone know if this is true?

It's kinda like Mirrors Edge had an illegitimate bastard child with Monday Night Combat: which they promptly abandoned on the steps of over-hyped orphanage.

This was the last game I'll ever pre-purchase. I got sucked into the hype only to find out that they had released half a game. Could've even been a good game, but it doesn't feel play-tested at all.
