Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I liked the feel of Aerial Romans. The elephants charging through high grass, the archer on the elephant shooting at what seems to be an already flying Roman, and of course the Gaesatae, well, for always being themselves.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Id say Panten, death in an alleyway.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Voted for the Silver Shields. No action there, but very impressive.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Voted for Panten. I wasn't sure if we are allowed to vote for ourselves, but even then, his picture has wonderful perspective.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Voted for Arthouros's flying Romans... those poor fellas: been charged by elephants, then shot while flying in the air, on the end of the process lying down, broken.. but the worst thing is yet to come: naked dudes approaching to get them with them big swords. Poor triple-owned Romans

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Hmmmm, sadness....
Thanks for the submissions, but I'm just not moved enough to vote this month.
No offense is intended, but everything's a bit mediocre compared with a good portion of previous entries.
Perhaps I'll submit one for September if I fire up the old PC.

I don't like the historical context for that picture (although it is extremely impressive visually, best one here) because it looks as if the Gaesatae are too close to the Romans. Surely the Gauls would know better than to get so close to a charging elephant. After all, the elephant is only an animal and probably can't really tell the difference between friend and foe - it would likely attack anything in front of it. And while the mahout can make an elephant stop, turn, and go, I'm not sure if he would have enough control to stop the elephant attacking friendly infantry if they were mixed up with the enemy in a mass melee. It's not like controlling a horse with reins.
I think that's why elephants were commonly used at the start of battles, before the two sides became mixed up. Less chance of them running amok into a friendly formation. (What would you call that in history? Not friendly fire, but something similiar. Friendly trample? Friendly squash?)
Mahout to Gaesatae after the battle: "I'm sorry, my elephant didn't mean to tread on your friends, he just got a bit over-excited. No hard feelings, we're all on the same side, aren't we?" Gaesatae: "Grrrrr....."

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
The Celtic Viking, again. Excellent screens.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
My vote goes to "The Silver Shield". Amazing sight!

I totally agree with you, Titus, but there is one thing you take no notice of: namely, the naked dudes have 2HP, thus their chances to survive the elephant charge was bigger then that of the other troops: and that's why they're so close to their own elephantes :clown:

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
The Banks of The River Ebro for me. Awesome scenery in the background.
-
Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Centurio's Zagros mountains, for the background as well.

:laugh4: That's true, can't say that I took any historical or realistic considerations when taking the screenshot, especially as the army composition is quite... overpowered.

I voted for: 4- Brave Brave Sir Robin - On the Banks of the River Ebro.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I went with Centurio Nixalsverdrus. The background here is one of those things that makes this game great. I was surprised it got so few votes. I was also surprised there were so few entries.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I agree, the scenery of that shot is amazing. I still voted for Celtic Viking's picture though.

It does seem that the screenshots in this competition are more about landscape rather than the traditional action packed shot. Good entries all round!

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I went with #2. beautiful mountain scenery, and a decent sense of action.

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Arthur. All Hail Roman-killer elephants!

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I nearly got a heart attack when I saw the standings... :O

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Hard to decide here, all of those screens have a special feeling and catch a great moment of a sure great battle (or just show the confidence of a truly elite unit like those Silver Shields).
Voted Arthur's picture in the end though, just because it's in my personal opinion the most dynamic one.
Good catch!

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
I voted for Brave Brave Sir Robin, I love the background. Aerial Romans were nice, but I'm a Romaiphiloi, so... And I was astonished to see I got so many votes, too :D Thanks everyone!

Re: August Screenshot Competition - The Poll (2)
Silver Shields, for the majestic feel. Was a close call though.
