ACIN's Contest: Win and Receive a Free Game from yours truly!
Ok, let's really spice the frontroom up. So back in my thread where I said I would change my name, I had a little contest where I gave a free game to whoever guessed correctly what my new name was going to be. If I remember correctly, it was Moros and I sent him a copy of Civ III complete edition on steam.
So now, I want to have another contest. But this time, it is a win-win for me because I find myself struggling to read for extended periods of time, even though I know I should. So I have devised my new contest which goes as follows.
I have a ton of books. More than I can read over the next couple months. But I want to try and go through as many as possible. Here is a picture of all the books that are currently on my to do list: https://i.imgur.com/KTC88.jpg
Now, the way to play the game is to guess how many books I will have finished reading by the end of my fall quarter of school, which ends officially on December 8, 2011. Whoever is the closest will win a game from me on steam.
Now the incentive here is for me to try and read as many books as possible, if you count the number of books, there are a total of 31 books*. No one can guess 31 books. The highest amount you can guess is 30. If I manage to read all 31 books before December 8th somehow, then I win. That is the incentive for me to read more.
Q: But ACIN, what if everyone has already picked #0-30?
A: Multiple people can guess the same number. There will be "tie breaker" of sorts to determine who will actually win the game when multiple people have chosen the correct answer.
If multiple people have chosen the correct number "x", then the sudden death round will consist of me asking those individuals to choose which books they think I read. I will provide a list of all the books in that picture, and contestants will give their list of books they think I have read. The contestant with the highest number of matches wins.
*There is actually only 30 in the picture. There was one book I left out in the picture, "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain.
You can guess from now all the way until the clock strikes 00:01 (24 hour clock, Pacific Coast US Time) December 8th, 2011. If by some chance two or more people win the sudden death as well, I will buy them both games for a job well done.
All valid guesses must be in bold like so: Guess: (some number)
Discussion on what books I am likely to read, how many I might be able to read, general free discussion about books and whether or not the books in question are garbage may be discussed. But no spam please.
Contest starts now. I hope this makes life a little bit more exciting for you guys.

Question: Are these books part of your normal course readings or are they in addition to what you have to read for school?

In addition.
EDIT: Whether or not my classes/major give me a lot of free time is for you guys to guess/decide when calculating your guesses. You can change your guess at any time btw.

Okay, that knocks the number down by a few.
Going to try to reason this one out. Some of the books you have on that shelf seem like breezes, like the Max Brooks collection, etc. But most of them look like downright bears. If you actually pull off the entire Federalist Papers for pleasure, for example, my hat is off to you. And is that Plato's Republic I see on the top right? These will take time. Time and a brobdingnagian amount of discipline, much more than I have. My prediction is that you get through most/all of the quicker reads and a few of the denser stuff before the usual coursework increase hits sometime in November. Then you will see a good amount of your free time evaporate, as it usually does.
Guess: 9

@GH Your reasoning may be correct, but lest everyone thinks the same I should point out that one or more of these books may or may not have already been started (and just abandoned when my interest moved to other books).

Well, just like with Moros I will ask the winner what he/she wants and what their computer can handle. I will buy whatever game I think he/she will enjoy the most regardless of cost.
EDIT: Also, since the game ends the second week of December, Steam will be having its Christmas sale. So I mean, if you are looking for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and they suddenly slap a 50% off on it, I will probably buy it.

I have said what my major is on the org at some point. Up to you guys to find out what it is, and whether or not the classes it entails will drain my free time.

Re: ACIN's Contest: Win and Receive a Free Game from yours truly!
19 books
Just for justification: I normally read about 6-10 books a month, stuff like Singularity is near or Romance of the Three kingdoms. Most are about 500-900 pages a piece. Im thinking you might read at about the same amount as I do, and I took some off for how boring some of your books seems. I also took some off that they are for pleasure, ending with about 19.
