Smoking versus Dipping
Now We all know tobacco is bad for, horerrendous in fact. So lets avoid having the thread degenerate into that. I'm sure some of you smoke and
maybe a few dip.
Personally I dip on occasion, usually when i need a buzz. Its just something everyone does where I live and then attempting to pursue a career in the military doesn't really help since it's not uncommon in the Army at least.
Which do people find more irritating or favor more.?
(dipping is chewing tobacco)

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Smoke....very very occasionally with colleagues or when we all go to a posh bar or something.
I've never tried chewing it because, one I don't think I can find good quality stuff here, two, the chances of teeth getting stained are more and three (and most important) finding a spittoon is nigh impossible when one needs it most.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I like smoking, I join people on their cigarette breaks sometimes.
Don't know if I will take it up though, kind of expensive.
I don't like the idea of chewing tobacco though, I can't even stand chewing gum.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
see you dont actually chew tobacco haha its called packing a lip. you take what they call a "quarter" (or your preferred size i tend to use dimes) which is obviously the size of that amount of money (25 cent us currency for the foreigners) and pack it into your bottom lip. then you just spit the juice that comes from the tobacco mixing with your saliva.
I just use a water bottle or something or spit on the ground if im not inside or like in a public area.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Back in the 1960's when I was a lad my father quit smoking those bad old cigarettes by taking up dipping. Back then there were no plastic beverage bottles, just glass or cans. He used to spit into an old Planter's Peanut can when not outdoors or in a place where it's socially unacceptable to spit on the ground. Many's the time while waiting at a red light he'd open the vehicle door and dump the can. I dipped for a few years as a teen after I got my braces off. I didn't like how it used to irritate my gums and inside of my lip so I quit. Took up smoking cigars instead, but only rarely now. Tobacco smoke irritates many people, and spit bothers everyone. Nowadays you have to pick the right time, place, and company to do either.
You might be a red-neck if

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Both are bad for you and kinda low-class. So I have the occasional smoke. It's probably because of over-exposure to Humphrey Bogart films as a kid. He'd have a cig, sure, but Bogie would never chaw.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I don't do either, and to me smoking is way more annoying than dipping, because the smell gets everywhere. I spent a week at my friend's place, who only smokes outside, and when I got home I opened up my suitcase and my clothes reeked of cigarette smoke. Nasty.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I only smoke tobacco if I'm really drunk. Otherwise, no.
-
Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I'm a non-smoker though a mate of mine is a social smoker.
I'm a social coffee drinker, I don't drink coffee often but on occasion when I'm catching up with friends I'll order one

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Coffee only... which I suspect is linked to my asthma.
No smoking for me (see above).
I haven't seen people chew tabacco here... I have seen beatle nut chewing in Taiwan.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I had to look up dipping, and realized it is the same a what we call 'snus'.
I do neither, and have never tried.
Snus is very common here with the strict smoking regulations. Many are introduced to snus in the military for obvious reasons.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I've always found the spitting that comes with dipping a bit repulsive.
As a student, I used to smoke a lot. Once I hit the treshold of two packs a day, I decided to quit cold turkey and it worked for me.
Picked up smoking again when I smoked a cigar with my best friend the day I married. Since then, I smoke again, but rarely and only cigarillos; about 20 or 30 a year, so that's less than 1 a week. I actually like the smell of smoke

We have that in common. I had an uncle who used to smoke, and I was around him quite a bit as a kid. I used to love the smokey scent in his room.
Let me add to Centurion's question. Which of you guys smoke cigars only and never cigarettes or vice-versa. IMO both are quite different. After all one gives you cancer of mouth and the other of the lungs. :clown:

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
I used to smoke heavily. I quite several months ago. I used to dip in High School, it upsets my stomach now. Chewing tobbacco, I can't get by the taste, blech!
Now, I smoke an electric cigarette. I can plug it right into the USB port on my PC. It's great. Clean vapor drags and a nice nicotine hit. I will never go back to cigarettes! :D (I have a chocolate flavor on now and am about to switch to cherry.) :)

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Skoal long cut mint. It tastes delicious to me at least.
I have a pretty lucky case with a strong stomach. I've gutted entire mouthfuls of spit out of certain unfortunate circumstances and survived without hurling. Sometimes when im really drink ill stick in a lip and drink with it in.....

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
Gross! Skoal straight I preferred in High School.
Save the spit in a bottle for a while and it really starts to stink! We hid a bottle of old spit in a friends basement (cap on) then I opened it briefly one day, the whole basement reeked! It was funny! I don't know why we decided to do this, but it was done none the less.

That's funny! My grandfather was a chain smoker and I think my love for the smell of smoke comes from there. It was always nice to visit him. As a child, the smoke intrigued me. My mother hated it though, because she couldn't stand the smell of our clothes after each visit.

Re: Smoking versus Dipping
personally, neither.
try a sheesha instead :clown:
(fort he 1% of you who are Arab, I'm sure you'll get this instantly, but this will, for the most part, fly over the 99% of the Forum who aren't Arabs.if you are in the 99%, here is a linkhttp://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B4%D9%8A%D8%B4%D8%A9):clown:

I actually knew that. Although I never realised that it was an Arabic term. We have a hookah bar in town where they call it sheesha....I always thought it was Urdu or something.

I am an asthmatic also, so I have never smoked in my life, plus I don't want cancer so I leave all tobacco alone. Also any whiff of smoke and it makes me sick.

Several things wrong with that but since this is the Frontroom I'm afraid I can't tell you.

Yes, it emits smoke nonstop. That's even worse than some of the more annoying smokers I come across in public!

What?!!!? No girl! Be strong! Don't take it! He's a demon dressed like a skaterboy!
Should be obvious by the way his neck and head look like a balloon and there is no chin.
Also the big yellow thing in the background? That's one of satan's eyes, he wants to know whether he can have you, girl!
Hug that bible a bit more and politely say no!
