Error prompt after Installation of TW Gold Edition (Medieval II & Kingdoms Expansion)

Hello,
This is my first post to this forum.
I encountered a problem after installing TW Gold Edition (Medieval 2 & Kingdoms) on Windows XP Pro SP2 on VirtualBox.
I successfully installed the game. But, when I try to execute it, I get the following error prompt:

This application isn't compaltible with the installed operating system
Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, 2000 or better

Has anybody else encountered something like this? Please answer me...

PS It's my first time trying this game. Generally, I'm running Linux Ubuntu on this machine
