EB or R:TW not working...
Hello, for the last few days i haven't been able to play the game and i don't understand what is happening. The problem i am having is the following the game starts and everything but if i start a new campaign it won't work, it will either get stuck in the faction selection screen and the music will kept on playing or the loading screen will appear and get stuck when it is almost complete loading. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tried to run it using BI, i installed those additional fixes and nothing seems to work, has this happened to anyone?? Is there a chance the problem is with Windows or something? I have ran a defrag, fixed any registry issues and so on, I don't know what else i could do, thanks for your time in advance.
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
I have absolutely no idea how helpful this will be, or if it'll work, but have you tried running EB as admin? i.e. right click eb.exe and run as administrator?
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
Have you ruled out video driver issues and hardware failures?
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
Nope it didn't worked. Thanks a lot though for ur fast response. I am really frustrated i can't understand whats going on?? I dont know if the visualization or something has something to do here...
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
I always get a message after playing that the optimal resolution would be different but still it would work before. I don't know which piece of hardware could be malfunctioning now.
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
I have had a similar issue once before with EB. Turned out that some critical files were stored on bad sectors of the HD. That would be my guess as to the problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling may simply mean that you have installed the files on the exact same physical location of the HD, and experience the same problems.
Running a HD checking utility (chkdsk in Windows) could shed some light on matters. Microsoft's defragging utility is hardly perfect for picking up bad sectors.
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
Hmm you definitely didn't install EB into the program files directory? Maybe it is hardware? Campaign map not on optimum resolution setting, leading to game crashing as unable to open larger resolution/screen?
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
I used defraggler, i didn't used Windows disc fragmenting unit, I just ran a chkdsk and nothing happened. Hmm it used to work before, it just started to fail recently. It was on the program files, installed it on the secondary hd, yeah the game slows if i scroll through the campaign map, but it rarely crashed. Biggest thing perhaps was that reinforcements never arrived during the battle due to the computer, actually it is not an old computer it is like 2 yrs old and has 3 gb of ram, it has a generic intel graphical board card or something, i have been able to run games like Call of Duty 2 and even Mass Effect 2(with it's perks though but it ran smoothly) I really dont want to reinstall windows since i have school work in this computer.
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
I have no idea, sorry...
But you could try this:
Set the resolution of campaign map and battle map and windows desktop to the exact same value (including number of colours, 16 or 32 bit).
I would still recommend investing in a new HDD, doing a fresh windows install on that, copying anything needed from the old one and doing a fresh EB install.
Western Digital seems to be producing reliable harddrives, I would not recommend Seagate as one of my 6months old twin Barracudas died spontaneously without reason a while ago.
Re: EB or R:TW not working...
To combine some of the previous posts:
- don't install EB into Program Files and run it as admin
- disable protection software during gaming
- update video drivers
- check if Vanilla shows the same issue, if yes, total re-installation, if no, re-download the installers from another source
- set ingame resolution to desktop resolution
- don't change files or install minimods
- after a new installation, run validateinstallation.bat found in your main RTW folder and post your results here
- disable movies (add -nm to your shortcut's target line or use 'EB Configuration' if you have Trivial Script installed)
Since chdsk did not work you might want to check your system for malware.
